Řehlovice 1880-1970

This thesis is looking into the history of the village Řehlovice in the Northbohemian region in years 1880 - 1970. This village was located till the end of the Second World War deep in the mostly by Germans inhabited territory named Sudetenland. The thesis wants in the time span study the changes of the local social conditions and the constitution of the inhabitants and other interesting themes whose are related to the situation before and after the Second World War which was a big turning point. In this time span changes the peaceful coexistence of two nations under the influence of the Nazi-ideology. This is the culmination point of the thesis, because it gains information from in German written and from in Czech written and till today unpublished eleven local chronics. It shows data and stories from small locality which could help to map unresearched places of history. The result of the thesis is a close look on these data and their evaluation. Parts of the thesis are illustrative graphs and illustrations taken from unpublished sources. They were given from the Czechs that staid but also from the deported Germans. Years after 1948 are briefly adapted for the comparison. Information about local education, parish and the gathering of deported Germans are situated in separated chapters.

Justice or Retribution? Expulsion of Germans after the Second World War. Partisan People's Court in Lanškroun.

This bachelor thesis focuses one of the marginalized chapters of Czech modern history, the functioning of people's courts and expulsions. It is a qualitative study using both analytical and statistical methods. This works benefits from using both primary and secondary sources. Its aim is to create a plastic picture of what happened on the main square in Lanškroun in May 1945. This work follows a research of immediate post war period. In few months (not just in Czechoslovakia) took place changes which irreversibly changed a society structure. Migration waves, the largest in the modern Czechoslovak history, affected economic, political, cultural and interpersonal relations, and thus the overall character of society. Initial euphoria over again liberation changed quickly to commonly manifestation hate against Germans, collectively responsible perpetrators of war crimes. Before official government organized expulsions, there has been a wild expulsions, escapes and people's court. Also by the influx of inland Czechs to border areas there has been created till that time nonexistent reality, culturally and ethnically unified border region which influenced internal state organization and also significantly influenced Czech-German (and Czech-Austrian) relations. ʻSudeten Germansʻ in Czech cinematography from 1945: changes and constants

The bachelor thesis investigates the background of possible presentations of Sudeten Germans in Czech cinematography and describes circumstances of a contemporary political and cultural climate in connection with the expulsion of Germans from Czechoslovakia after World War II. In four significant periods are analyzed five films - Nástup, Adelheid, Cukrová bouda, Zánik samoty Berhof, Habermannův mlýn. The analysis is based on secondary literature and contemporary critics.

The Consequences of Munich Agreement for economy and society of Czechoslovakia

Diploma thesis "The Consequences of Munich Agreement for economy and society of Czechoslovakia" deals with the Munich Agreement and the impacts of this Agreement on the former Czechoslovakia. The aim of the work is based on archival materials and secondary literature for comparison how crucial was the change of the economic and social system "as a result" of the Munich Agreement. This thesis also analyzes on what was based the economy of the First Czechoslovak Republic, what form the social structure had, how economy has evolved and how significant were impacts by totalitarian regimes on society. At first, the economy was influenced by the Great Depression followed by consequences of the Munich Agreement, which is the main subject of the thesis. The emphasis is on understanding the situation before the Munich Agreement, subsequently reactions of society which were documented immediately in connection with the implementation of specific actions related to the seizure of the territory. At the end of the main part of the thesis, economic and social changes are analyzed in particular. Max Egon zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg and Czechoslovakia

The thesis analyses prince Max Egon Hohenlohe-Langenburg's relationship to Czechoslovak Republic from its origin to year 1945. It focuses on the issues of prince's role in Czechoslovak politics and his attitudes to all the situations which affected the aristocracy in the 20th century in ČSR - land reform, Sudeten crisis and postwar turn of events. In the first chapter the thesis concentrates on foundation of ČSR and its impact on aristocracy and thus also on prince Max Egon at the time. The second chapter deals with consequences of land reform on property of Hohenlohe-Langenburg's House, the third chapter is about Sudeten German crisis and prince Max Egon's role in it. The last chapter shows aristocracy's situation after year 1945. The author comes to conclusion that the personality of prince Max Egon was very ambiguous - he always tried to get on well with everybody in effort to gain personal profit, and for fear that he could not keep his property in the extent that he had had since the time Hohenlohe- Langenburg's family settled down in current Czech border. History of the city Jílové near Děčín after 1945: Transfer and Settlement in the Narratives of Its Inhabitants

This thesis considers a difficult period of the post-war period of history in Jílové near Děčín. The main chapters of this work deal with the themes of transfer of Germans from the city and with the following event of settlement of new inhabitants. The aim of this thesis is to reflect the period of the national migration in Jílové. Last but not least this work aims to reveal micro-historical view on a process of key events in a small city considering individual life stories. Submitted thesis is based on available archive materials and literature. At the same time there was applied a method of oral history. In the following chapters there are introduced 6 life stories of inhabitants of Jílové who helped with their narrations to describe the key themes of this research as well as "small history" of everyday life in the post-war era. Visual memory of Knížecí Pláně

In this bachelor thesis, I will attempt to describe and document a very important sociological issue in modern Czech history: expulsion of the German population from Czechoslovakia after the Second World War. The main method that I will be applying is visual sociology. Obtained knowledge from the research are classified in the historical and sociological context overlapped to the present. I have chosen specific time and place so that I can demonstrate issue of the expulsion of German population from the Czech borders area. I realize the extent of this issue and also that it is not possible to analyze the issue as a whole on dozen of pages. Still, I think that based on the findings of this research, readers will be able to imagine conclusions in a broader context and that this knowledge reader will be able to create an image of this issue in the present and its impact on the landscape and society. For the main part of this thesis I consider my photographs of the place, on which this work reports. On the basis of the theory of visual sociology, I consider these pictures the most important part of this work. Aš area 1938-1948

In the 20th century Czech border came through changes which influenced it in a very short time just as never in past centuries. During the formation of the First Czechoslovakia Republic was the big part of peripheral area inhabited by people of German nationality even since the Middle Ages. In the second half of thirties devolved this area to Hitlers Third Reich. After the end of Second World War was the big part of original population changed for new population. The object of this bachelor thesis is to describe historical events of town Aš and its neighborhood which leads to political and social changes in this region and changed them for tens of years. Main sources of this work are memoirs of two groups of people: Germans who could stay and Czechs who moved in from inland.

Regional press in region of Liberec in 1938 on example of north bohemian daily

The main aim of my diploma thesis is to capture the social atmosphere on the pages of periodicals in the Liberec region over the last few months before the secession of the Sudetenland from Czechoslovakia in the Munich Agreement. It was a predominantly German populated region and I wonder how local Czech minority recognize tense period in 1938. For this reason I chose the only Czech written newspapers in Liberec at this period - North-Bohemian Daily. Start of the work is devoted to a brief recapitulation of the historical development of Liberec. And next charter deals with Czech-German relations because this topic is not only a question of the First Republic but it is a coexistence lasting few centuries and we could classify the events of 1938 in the correct context. In the next part I have devoted Nort-Bohemian Daily, its publishers, printers, graphic form, editorial and content characteristics. This is followed by a quantitative content analysis in the last stage of existence of newspapers, ie from January to October 1938. I was interested what topics editorial gave space, who created the texts as they were long and to which columns they were sorted. The theoretical part of the bachelor's thesis ""Transfer" of Germans and Postoloprty in 1945" is devoted to the relations between Czechs and Germans in the pre-war period and their outcome after the Second World War, i.e. the expulsion of Germans from Czechoslovakia. The second part of the thesis - the practical part - is focused on a specific area (the municipality of Postoloprty) in which the acts of violence against the German population took place. In this part the thesis is mainly based on the work with testimonies of witnesses who were willing to share their experiences and memories. The final part of the thesis is devoted to the investigation from 1947 and finally the thesis deals in brief with the modern investigation.
