Typology of shifts in translations of novels by Santiago Gamboa from Spanish into Czech

The thesis is focused on analyzing the most common translation shifts in the translations of Santiago Gamboa's novels Perder es cuestión de método (1997) and Necrópolis (2009). The theoretical part is based on the presentation of novels and on the analysis of their reception in Spanish-speaking countries and in the Czech Republic. The work also presents two Czech translators, editors and Czech publishing houses, which published these books. The practical part is devoted to the analysis of translation shifts in both translations, we work here with the theory of expression changes and with the theory of shifts in the translation by Anton Popovic (1975, 1983), specially, we focus on individual shifts (lexical instantiations, transcription, omitting of significance, inserting of significance etc.). Meanings of Myth. Themes of classical mythology in Czech fine arts of the 1930s

Classical mythology has been one of the main sources of inspiration for European artists for centuries. It also remained current during the 20th century. From the 1920s, one can see increasing interest in classical myths; it becomes a source of inspiration even for artists of avant-garde art movements. The 20th century artist approach themes from classical mythology from a position of newly acquired artistic freedom. Release of iconographic conventions and academic rules, emphasis on psychology and individuality of a modern man brings specific forms of reception and reinterpretation of classical myths. In many cases, classical mythology carries allegorical meanings in a relation to contemporary political and social events, often in a very critical tone. But it also represents a tool for one's personal coping with reality. The thirties and early forties of the 20th century with dark atmosphere affected by war conflicts represent the culmination period of classical myths in visual arts. The tendency can be observed both in the art of European and Czech origin. The Language of Images (The Image of an Author as a Paratextual Phenomenon in Cultural Transfer)

This PhD. Thesis "The Language of Images (The Image of an Author as a Paratextual Phenomenon in Cultural Transfer)" deals with the teoretical questions of the notion "The Image of an Author" and the way the term is constituted and its conections to a specific cultural space in the frame of cultural transfer. The Image of the Author is interpreted as a paratextual phenomenon which is on the one hand created through review acceptance and medial discurs in the cultural space, and on the other hand has influence on the way the text is accepted by the reader. The question of the image of an author is approached in the context of other paratextual elements, paratexts are from our point of view read as cultural (semantic) units, which participace on semiotic space of culture. The first three chapters form the teoretical basis of the thesis and focus on the theme of cultural transfer and paratexts. The core of the thesis is in its second part which presents four case studies about four different author's types in contemporary Czech literature (Jáchym Topol, Petra Hůlová, Jaroslav Rudiš, Miloš Urban). Reception of Italian Renaissance forms of architecture in Bohemia

The Bachelor's thesis deals with reception of Italian Renaissance forms of architecture in Czech. The base of this thesis consist in studying architectural theories. The first part of this thesis is focused on theories by Roman architect Vitruvius and theories by Renaissance architect Leon Battista Alberti. In his work Alberti used the principles of Vitruvius but he updated it. This thesis also includes descriptions of Florentine buildings which follow the principles and were projected by Alberti. The major part of this thesis is dedicated to beginnings and acceptation the Italian Renaissance forms of architecture in Central Europe. The differences between perception of metonymy in photography and in movies from the perspective of reception aesthetics

The diploma work "The differences between perception of metonymy in photography and in movies from the perspective of reception aesthetics" deals with different uses of the figure of speech - metonymy - in visual communication. The metonymy is primarily used as an ornamental device of language expression. It is also distinguishable in purely visual information that is provided in photography and certain film shots. In visual communication, metonymy is also used for embellishing of the visual content or, at least, its correction. This work is focused especially on these examples of the use of metonymy that employ the method of reception aesthetics, which was up to now applied only to literary works. The subjects of interest of the reception aesthetics are so- called places of indeterminacy and the horizon of expectation which is also the focus of this work in addition to its main focus on metonymic expression in movies and photography. The first part of this work deals with the theory of the reception aesthetics and its main exponents. The second part deals with the relationship between the recipients and the media, specifically photography and movie. The first part represents an in-troduction to Miguel de Unamuno's and Ernest Renan's philosophy, an interpretation of both thinkers' writings in the context of their life stories and the values they defended. In the content of this bachelor thesis is ecamining the reception of Jan Pelc's novel …a bude hůř by Czech readers during various political regimes. In case of pre-revolutionary acceptance, there are evaluated reactions of readers in exile and in the independent domestic structures. The analysis of arguments for such acceptance are mentioned. Ethical aspects of interaction: Qualitative Study of Reception of Computer Game Mass Effect 2 as a System of Moral Decisions

This thesis is focused on ethical aspects of interaction between players and virtual computer game worlds, specifically on reception of situations where player faces possibility or necessity to make a moral choice that influences the future development of the game. The goal of this thesis is to find out how seriously players approach these decisions, whether they take their impact on the game world into account, what criteria they apply when deciding and what other influences affect their decisions. Another related theme is identification with the game avatar and its influence on moral decisions. This work is based on qualitative research realized with a group of five players of computer game Mass Effect 2. During the research they answered questions regarding their decisions in particular situations as well as their general approach to decisions in the game. The research is based on recent works on the related topics of game studies. Outcomes of the research are analysed by the grounded theory method. Using its procedures the answers are decomposed into basic concepts which are then put together again in mutual context. As a conclusion of the thesis the grounded theory formulated based on these analytical procedures is presented. Future thematically related research areas are also suggested.
German as a Mediating Language in the Translation of Hašek's Švejk into Spanish

The purpose of this thesis is to describe the reception of Hašek's Švejk in Spain in the 20th century. The theoretical part deals with the phenomenon of indirect translations (it distinguishes between the second-hand translation and the authorial compilative translation), the problematic of metatexts and the reader's reception. The empirical part describes the "adventure" of Hašek's Švejk in the Czech and German milieu and focuses on the reception of the translations by A. Janés (1980) and M. Zgustová (2008) in Spain. Then, an analysis of censorship reports dedicated to Švejk and critical reviews of Spanish translations of this book and a short commentary of interviews with the two translators and editors follow. As a methodological instrument for the micro-textual contrastive analysis of selected passages of Hašek's novel was used the Popovič's (1975, 1983) typology of stylistic shifts and changes in the translation.
