The Place of the Library within the Organisational Framework of Universities in the Czech Republic and USA: A Comparison Study

The aim of this master thesis was to describe and asses the place of the library within the organizational framework of universities in the Czech Republic and USA. Aim of this thesis is to describe and evaluate the current position of library in organizational structure of colleges and universities in the Czech Republic and USA. First chapter sums up the current situation. For Czech universities in public school sector the corresponding elementary data, relevant legislative scope and position in organizational structure of public universities are emphasized and presented. For US universities the current status is presented with a particular example of five public universities. Second chapter is about current trends in evolution of university libraries in Czech Republic and USA with an emphasis on position in university or college structure. Third chapter is the essential part of the thesis. It contains report about survey performed with representatives of Czech public universities and representatives of given libraries. Last chapter presents parallel research done in USA.

The first people in space according to Czechoslovak media

This thesis focused on how propaganda was used in the Czechoslovak media and how that directly relatedd to the first people in space. The aim is an analysis of celebrities of Soviet state system including Yuri Gagarin, Valentina Tereshkova and also John Glenn for comparison. The thesis discusses how these people were promoted and constructed into cult heroes in Eastern, Western and Third World countries. The secondary literature of this subject was not yet analysed and the author wants to use it for further study. The contemporary sources are used in the press - Rude pravo, Mlady svet, Dikobraz, ABC mladych prirodovedcu a techniku and the Ceskoslovensky vojak.

Czechoslovak - Venezuelan Relations in the years 1945 - 1968

This work is an analysis of a topic that until now has been practically no research, the relations of Czechoslovakia and Venezuela in the years 1945 - 1968, while this work focuses attention on diplomatic and economic relations, it also considers the influence of domestic politics in these countries, explaining the context of these international relations, specifically of the United States, Soviet union and Cuba. The thesis is primarily based on material from the archives of the Ministry of Foreign Relations of the Czech Republic and also the National Archive of the Czech Republic. Diplomatic relations between these countries were established in 1929, after the Munich Agreement of 1938, the embassy of Czechoslovakia in Caracas was closed. After World War II. economic relations were re-established. This was really important because the commercial interest of Czechoslovakia helped to establish the diplomatic relations. Diplomatic relations were discontinued by Venezuela in 1952 during the dictatorship of general Marcus Pérez Jiménez. When the dictator was overthrown in 1958, diplomatic relations were gradually re-established, once more through economic relations and finally established in 1968. Uzbekistan's Foreign Policy (2001-2012): The Pendulum Diplomacy between the US and Russia

This diploma thesis deals with the creation of Uzbekistan's foreign policy. It attempts to answer three main research questions: What were the chief goals of Tashkent's foreign policy? What were the factors that influenced the creation of Uzbekistan's foreign policy? Which factors and causes played the decisive role in the case of Uzbekistan's most significant foreign policy turnovers in 2001, 2005 and 2012? It claims the principal aims of Uzbekistan's foreign policy were threefold. Firstly, it was the preservation of Uzbekistan's independence. Secondly, it was the strengthening and securing of Karimov's regime. Finally, it was the attempt to become the regional leader in Central Asia. Subsequently, the study maintains that the foreign policy formulation was altered by four processes or challenges which the regime in Tashkent had to cope with. These were namely the challenge of geopolitical position, establishing of a viable political system, transforming the command economy, and the threat of radical or political Islam. A Discourse Analysis of the Relations between Russia and the United States of America

The diploma thesis analyses U.S.-Russian bilateral relationship based on the interpretation of discourses, interviews and speeches of the American and Russian presidents since September 2001 till December 2013. Using Critical Discourse Analysis, and more specifically Membership Categorization Analysis, as a theoretical and methodological basis of the analysis, the thesis categorizes specific periods of the U.S.-Russian bilateral relationship into three categories - positive, neutral and negative. Each category is defined by two basic concepts of the Membership Categorization Analysis - by the collections of positive, neutral and negative categories, which were addressed by the presidents to their counterparts, and by the category-tied predicates related to the particular categories. The final categorization of the U.S.-Russian relations is contrasted with conventional political affairs aiming to highlight the parallels between the categorization changes based on the discourses and the changes in the conventional political context. The diploma thesis offers an alternative view on the U.S.-Russian relations.

Přístup Bushovy administrativy k otázce iránského jaderného programu: od teorie k praxi

Iranian nuclear program has presented a problem for many years. Even though the regime in Tehran has not formally announced its quest to develop nuclear weapons and has actually denied such accusations, the international community concluded from the actions of the regime that the development of nuclear weapons is the ultimate goal of Tehran. The United States reacted to the course of events and tried to limit the program or stop it altogether. The Bush Administration was not an exception in this regard. Even though the attitude towards Iran changed during 2001 - 2009, the nuclear program progressed further and still presents a great danger. Not only politicians but also academics, experts and analytics were trying to answer the question how to curb the program most effectively. This thesis analyzes and compares concepts of scholars with the actual policy practiced by the Bush Administration and finds out that both approaches vary quite significantly. While the majority of scholars recommended the administration to limit the economic sanctions and refrain from aggressive rhetoric concerning the possibility of military action, the American government tightened the sanctions and sustained the option of intervention. The Developement of Economic Cooperation between EU and USA since the end of the Cold War

in English This thesis deals with the factors that influence changing intensity of bilateral economic cooperation between EU and USA in the period between 2002 and 2012. The quantitative tests by correlation are made separately for the trade and the financial area of cooperation. The first tested factor was the economic interdependence of EU and USA, which is based on liberal thoughts in international relations. Its positive influence on cooperation that was assumed for this factor was confirmed only in case of the financial area. On the other hand, for the trade sphere the premise was disproved. The second tested factor was formulated based on realism in international relations. It says that decreasing economic standing of EU and USA leads to their increased cooperation. This influence was confirmed both for trade and financial cooperation. The last researched factor was the annual change in the volume of transactions. This factor is based on functionalism, neofunctionalism and communication theory. The assumed positive influence of increased transactions on cooperation was confirmed only in trade dimension. Contemporary forms of negative political campaigning in the United States of America: The Case of Donald Trump's presidential campaign of 2016

In the last few decades, political marketing experienced a major shift in professionalization. In the past, the communication and marketing strategy was an advantage for political subjects. Today, however, it is an inseparable part of a political process. The thesis deals with the problematics of negative campaigning. It covers its historical development and contemporary form in the United States of America. Negative campaigning is an integral part of every more significant political struggle for power. Besides the historical and political contexts the author of the thesis pursuing professionalization of campaign strategies, technology development, and its influence on the campaigning and the overall changes that are shifting the political marketing field in past years. The last presidential campaign of the year 2016 resulted in the election of Donald Trump a president. The author was examining the negative statements from Twitter, presidential debates, and campaign rallies. By conducting semiotic and discourse analysis of selected statements of Donald Trump from the year 2016. The author focused mainly on the linguistic and content side of the statements. Afterward, she put it in the contexts with the whole campaign.
