A journalist as a politician - case study of Martin Komárek
Davidová, Adéla ; Moravec, Václav (advisor) ; Osvaldová, Barbora (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the process of transition of professional journalists into active policy. By exploring a particular journalist, it tries to reach a general conclusion on what motivates journalists to become politics. The subject of the thesis is to place this phenomenon in the context of journalistic ethics and to find answers to whether it is possible to practice both professions at the same time - eventually in what form. The thesis is methodologically conducted as a case study and combines a thorough interview with content analysis. Martin Komárek, the main actor of case studies, has been a long-standing commentary of Mladá fronta, later Mladá fronta DNES. In 2013, he decided to leave the media and became a member of the political movement ANO 2011 founded by billionaire Andrej Babiš. It was Martin Komárek who criticized Babiš several times in his texts as a reporter. His change of opinion on Andrej Babiš was therefore a great surprise. Further examples of five selected journalists who made a similar decision as Martin Komárek did and entered into politics are given in the third part of the thesis.

This bachelor work deals with the problematics of well-known politics causes in the world of world - cinema. The theme is linked to the journalism and tries to define why the tales of journalists and their search for truth attract filmmakers worldwide. The first part of this work is about the possibilities of adaptations, genre definitions and fictional worlds of well-known politics causes. The second part of the work focuses of two examples of adaptating real pollitical affairs into moving pictures. The first one is called All the President's Men and it was shot in 1976. It represents the most famous movie about so-called Watergate scandal which ended in resignation of American president Richard Nixon. This bachelor work focuses on film reactions and the portrayal of journalism in this movie including some rather problematic aspects. The second part of this work focuses on movie called Snowden, which also includes journalists, but their characters are kind of suppressed. Social media's influence on journalism
Vosátková, Lenka ; Nečas, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Jirků, Jan (referee)
This Master's thesis entitled "Social Media's Influence on Journalism" focuses on the effects new communication technologies, especially social media, has on journalist's. These effects are examined in regard to four major aspects of journalism - the individual, journalistic routine, work with information sources and ethical standards. The theoretical frame focuses on current trends in media, specifically social media, and the routines of journalists with a main focus on newsgathering and sorting of news. This has been strongly linked to gatekeeping theory. Qualitative research was conducted using Semi-structured in-depth interviews to answer research questions. Seven journalists, representing various facets of journalism, from a number of Czech daily newspapers were interviewed. The interviews were divided into four main parts to find out which social media platforms are used, how social media has changed routines, how social media is used as a source of information and how ethical standards may have changed. Open and axial coding was used to analyse the data obtained from the interviews. Results showed that journalists utilise social media at work on a daily basis and it has become an integral part of their routines. The main platforms used are Facebook, especially to find and connect sources,...
Journalist 2.0 Alexandr Mitrofanov: "an old-school journalist" in online environment
Krupa, Adam ; Hájek, Roman (advisor) ; Zápotocký, Jan (referee)
The thesis studies the way the journalists, who were used to publish their work in printed media, act in the environment of social network, namely Twitter. I primarily focused on a Twitter account of an influential political columnist, Alexandr Mitrofanov, who had been a long-term contributor to Právo newspaper. Mitrofanov has adapted very well on Twitter. Recently he is mostly known as a micro blogger, he has more than fifty thousand followers. The objective of the research is to find out how and in which way Mitrofanov is active on his Twitter account, what contributions, articles, or comments he posts and in which topics he is interested. I have used the Quantitative content analysis method to assess Mr. Mitrofanov's tweets. The results of the research indicate that Mitrofanov posts tweets every day, there is almost no difference between weekdays and weekends. He mainly makes comments on his follower's tweets. Alexandr Mitrofanov rarely retweets. He hardly ever uses hashtags. Mitrofanov's aversion to use this key element of Twitter (the tool which helps to sort topics and keep track of the news) is a proof that despite of high degree of adaptation to the online environment, Alexandr Mitrofanov still remains an "old-school journalist".
The activity of journalist on social networks Facebook and Twitter
Hejlová, Karolína ; Čermák, Miloš (advisor) ; Jirků, Jan (referee)
The aim of the bachelor's thesis The activity of journalist on social networks Facebook and Twitter is to cover the phenomenon of social networks in the environment of journalism. Because of the boom of new media within the internet I focus not only on the digitalization of traditional media but on the way how the new and traditional media step in the social networks and how journalists participate in sharing of the media content on their own personal social network accounts as well. In the thesis I am dealing specifically with Facebook and Twitter, mainly because of their stable position and popularity among Czech users. I emphasize the rate of journalists' activity considering social networks within their work and also the way they use social networks for their profession. The definitions of the new media and the impact of digitalization on media, their production and the change of communication with the recipients are used as a theoretical background. The theoretical part also contains the definition of Facebook and Twitter. In the end of my work I examine through a questionnaire and thematic analysis what the real journalist experience looks like and what the range of their activity on social networks is. I compare the data with theoretical knowledge.
The role and safety of journalists in an armed conflict
Bártová, Gabriela ; Šturma, Pavel (advisor) ; Balaš, Vladimír (referee)
This thesis deals with the position of journalists in the situation of armed conflict, It is a category of persons, whose protection within the international humanitarian law has been discussed for many years. Mediation of information from the area of armed conflict is a growing phenomen and because of the technical equipment, it relates more and more to laymen, not just professionals. The question whether journalist should enjoy special protection in the situation of armed conflict was raised already in the process of adopting the Additional Protocols, the so far latest source of the "Geneva law". Since then, it has been subject to many iniciatives, whose aim is to emphasize the role and value of journalists on the battlefield and ensure them more safety. On the other hand, it is obvious that journalists are not an a priori object, which should be protected by the humanitarian law - victims of the armed conflict, either among combatants or civilists. The thesis therefore tries to map the current legislation (embodied mostly in the Geneva Conventions and the Additional Protocols) and its historical and factual context. In the second part, it introduces and evaluates different initiatives that address the legislation - both those which try to change it and strenghten the protection of journalist in...
