Baroque domes and the St. Francis of Assissi Church in Prague

This bachelor thesis focuses on the St. Francis of Assissi Church in the Old Town of Prague as a building with the first true dome on a drum, constructed by Jean Baptiste Mathey who was originally a painter. Thanks to him Prague got a building that is architecturally as significant as Rome's St. Peter's Basilica. The thesis also researches the attempts to emulate Roman architecture. Architects active in Bohemia had been trying to construct a dome over the nave from the beginning of the 17th century. However, they only accomplished a true dome with the arrival of Mathey. Even Carlo Lurago, who was the best-known architect of the time, didn't succeed to place a dome over the nave, although he tried it on many buildings. Giovanni Domenico Orsi, on the other hand, managed to include a dome-like shape in his buildings, but many of his projects didn't survive to this day or remained on paper. Besides the St. Francis Church itself, this thesis also deals with Roman inspirations. The construction of this church wouldn't have been possible if Mathey hadn't brought with him from Rome the latest knowledge about Roman architecture and buildings being constructed back then. He was undoubtedly influenced by Carlo Rainaldi and other outstanding Roman architects who were active at that time.

Origin and further development of Jesuit college in Jihlava in 17th century

Bachelor thesis deals with the Foundation of the Jesuit College in Jihlava in the 17th century. It is based mainly on the study of materials stored in the Moravian Land Archive in Brno , from which it derives information about the foundation of college and institutionally attached seminar. Furthermore, materials from State District Archive in Jihlava were used to provide information about the city of Jihlava and Jesuit Gymnasium. The first two chapters shall be understood as an introduction to the religious- political background of Early Modern Czech kingdom and its manifestations in the royal town of Jihlava, which are tematized in a period starting with the beginning of the Lutheran Reformation and ending with early recatholisation. Next chapter introduces the central theme of the work. It analyzes the process of recatholisation in Jihlava, which inherently included the sub-process of establishment of the Jesuit College happening in contrast to general economic problems of the Jihlava municipality. Following chapter deals with the last period of the Thirty Years' War, after the battle of Jankov, when the city entered the Swedish army. The Renaissance appearance of the chateau in Častolovice

The Renaissance appearance of the chateau in Častolovice This thesis will deal with the appearance of the Renaissance chateau in Častolovice at a time when the owners of the estate were Oppersdorfs of Oppersdorf. This family rebuilt the original fortress into the Renaissance chateau. The major reconstruction took place between the years 1588 and 1615 during the possession of Fridrich of Oppersdorf. The thesis is primarily intended to introduce the apperance of the chateau, which had Frederick and his wife Magdalena of Donín built. First it approaches the historical context of the city Častolovice and the genus of Oppersdorf to relation with the chateau at this time. Then it will pursues the architectual development of the chateau during the property of Oppersdorfs. Finally it focuses on the fresco decorations of the courtyard and also marginally preserved parts of the Renaissance interior. Testaments of Náchod in the 17th century

Subject of this bachelor thesis is a probe into preserved testaments from the Náchod archive in the 17th century. These testaments can be found either in 2 books of testaments or in the files. They offer new possibilities of view into the everyday life of the town, mainly in the assets and family conditions. The thesis presents the testaments as information sources and describes local way of their origin. The main goal of the thesis was identifying the group of people who created their testament and also the analysis of their legacies. The testamentmakers were considered according to gender, family status, occupation, assets, place of living and engagement in the life of urban community. The analysis of legacies studies not only their character, but also the scope of recipients, pious and profane. In the end, legacies heading to recipients out of the town are examined. German Language in East Bohemia in the First Half of the 17th Century on the Basis of the Diachronic Analysis of the Town Law Book of Rokytnice in the Eagle Mountains (1572-1666)

This diploma thesis deals with the diachronic analysis of the Town Law Book of Rokytnice situated in the Eagle Mountains. The work is divided into two parts. The first part is focused on the general introduction to the history of the city, the history of the municipal administration and urban books and the problem of the office language. The second part describes the analysed source, followed by its editorial and lexical analysis. Editorial analysis is focused on the records of purchase and payment in order to determine whether the types of text were written in a standard format. Lexical analysis is aimed at the legal terms. It was found that the unified pattern of the purchase record existed only within an individual scribe, not for the entire Town Law Book. Pattern of payment records varies even within the same scribe. From the editorial point of view it was found out that the legal terms in the law book were mainly described within the municipal administration and business terminology. The thesis "Proverbs a Series of Tapestries by Jacob Jordaens from the Castle Hluboká nad Vltavou" deals with a series of tapestries created from an artwork by the Flemish painter and designer of tapestries Jacob Jordaens. The aim of the thesis is to include historical context, and importace in schwarzenberg's collection which are part of and primary to write up pieces in detail with an emphasis on original artwork and update outdated literature, represented by studies from Jarmila Blažková. The world of Kryštof Popel jounger of Lobkowicz as seen in his diaries

The main goal of this diploma thesis was to introduce the personality of Kryštof Popel younger of Lobkowicz (1549−1609) based on his diaries, which came from the years 1602−1604. The edition of these diaries completes the whole thesis. Topics of the chapters are based on notes by Kryštof - they inform us about Lobkowicz's private and public life, and also about his patronage. The presented text also allows the reader to look into everyday life of the nobility, which took place in Prague palaces at the beginning of the seventeenth century.

The travels of the prohibited books to Bohemia after the battle of White Mountain in 1620

This bachelor thesis introduces topic of distribution of the prohibited books in the Czech Lands during recatholisation after the Battle of White Mountain. In the first part, author defines the basic terms "prohibited books" and "censorship". The attention is focused on the church censorship, implementation of censorship and censorship measures. In the second part, author discusses origin and history of the prohibited books in the world and in the Czech Lands and origin of their indices. The final part describes the handling of prohibited literature, the possibility of obtaining of the banned books by the Czech readers from foreign countries and circulation of domestic production.
