Public appearances of unofficial rock bands in Prague between 1973-1984

This thesis deals with the issue of public appearances of amateur rock bands in Prague after the introduction of the so-called "requlifications" which basically destroyed professional rock music in Czechoslovakia. This affected especially the capital city which had witnessed an unprecedented rise of this genre only several years earlier. Thereafter, independent rock music could be practiced only as a hobby, and even the amateur musicians had to face extensive regulations and general mistrust. As a result, opportunities to appear in public were very sparse because organizers were worried about the consequences of such events. The research investigates the mechanisms and conditions for durable opportunities to play publicly in Prague before 1984. The effects of the article Nová vlna se starým obsahem - the pinnacle of the media and social campaign against new forms of rock music, were already becoming apparent in that year and the Union of musicians and its sections - main pillars of independent culture in Czechoslovakia - were dissolved. The conclusion is that in such difficult circumstances persistence, creativity and readiness to lose one's job proved crucial qualities. Finnish spoken language and its use in the lyrics of modern songs

Finnish non-standard language and its use in the lyrics of modern songs Abstract The bachelor thesis deals with comparison of Finnish non-standard language and partly standard language in the lyrics of rock band Haloo Helsinki! and rap singer Cheek. Finnish non-standard language differs markedly from standard language in that it does not have a standard form and it is used primarily in oral communication. Moreover, Finnish non-standard language can, and is, also used for lyrics. The first theoretical part of thesis is an introduction to Finnish language varieties, non-standard and standard language and lyrics. The second practical part of thesis focuses on analysing the selected lyrics for the morphological, the syntactic and the lexical level of language. Non-standard language is analysed in all three levels of language, standard language only in the syntactic level of language.

This thesis deals with aspects and force of gender order in Prague rock bands. It is focused on presence of gender aspects which are viewed from a gender point of view. Main aim of my research is to cover force of gender order in specificic musicial field which has connotation primarly with men. Also to obtain ethnographic description of this subculture. I'm going to fulfill the aim of my research by research in field, by interviews with informators and content lyrics analysis. This thesis is divided into two parts: theoretical and empirical. Theoretical part contains particular definitions and theoretical approaches. Empirical describes a strategy of my research, whole procedure and results of the research. The Field of the "indie" Culture, Its Production and Distribution

(in English): The goal of this bachelor thesis is to study particularities in field of contemporary Czech indie music subculture. In the theoretical part, it defines the indie idea and proposes different optics how to describe this modern trend of alternative culture. It is also a method of social differentiation among other trends. I have gathered data and analyzed them according to qualitative methodology. Contemporary Czech indie culture is percepted as a field of restricted artistic production consisted of relations and interactions between constituent institutions and actors. This thesis points out that origins of indie are associated with music tradition of United States of America and Great Britain. It is unoriginal trend in Czech Republic. This work analyzes local interpretations of indie idea and particularitis of this field. Molecular mechanisms of fibroblastoid cell phenotype transitions:dedifferentiation of myofibroblasts and influencing of invasiveness and metastasis of sarcoma

Fibroblasts are the principal cellular component of the connective tissue. They are a heterogeneous group of cells which contribute to the structure of connective tissue and wound healing by their ability to produce extracellular matrix (ECM). Fibroblasts and cells derived from them are involved in many pathological processes such as formation of malignant tumors and fibrosis. Tumor progression which finally leads to metastasis is a serious biomedical problem. There is a growing body of the recent evidence showing an important role of the tumor stroma and its interaction with cancer cells in cancer progression. Tumor stroma comprises mainly of myofibroblasts and their products, namely ECM, soluble factors, and enzymes. Myofibroblasts contribute more or less to all steps of cancer progression. Furthermore myofibroblasts play a key role in fibrosis, another serious human disease which is not efficiently treatable and which is associated with cancer progression. These facts made us to search for molecular means capable of eliminating the myofibroblastic phenotype. We succeeded to entirely dedifferentiate primary myofibroblasts by concomitant inhibition of TGFβ signaling and perturbation of MAPK signaling in a chick model that we have introduced. Role of music group Extempore in the czech underground

This thesis deals with the music group Extempore since its foundation by Jaroslav Jeronym Neduha in 1973 until its annulment by Mikolas Chadima in 1981. The thesis shows the important moments of the group and its members. Jaroslav Jeronym Neduha was Extempore's frontman by the year 1979 then he left the group and its management handed to Mikolas Chadima. Both gave to Extempore its characteristic style in the musical aspect, lyrics and performance. Extempore gained lots of fans, so the State Security focused on them as a obnoxius music group. The thesis has the aim to reveal Extempore's role in Czech musical underground. Firstly I defined alternative culture in relation to underground and official culture with focus to the music. Also I described Prague's unofficial big beat scene between 1973 - 1981. Primarily the thesis is focused on alternative music scene and musical underground. The review also contains other noncommercial movements during that time - folk association Safran and younger musical movement New Wave that inspirated Chadima's Extempore. Since the 1979 Extempore has been more and more pressed to the illegality until they got ban to perform their music in any Prague's club. Biblical motives in Czech pop music lyrics of 60s and 70s of the twentieth century

The thesis "Biblical motifs in Czech pop music of the 1960s and the 1970s of the twentieth century: The function and using of biblical motifs for pop music lyrics with the original biblical background and message" introduces the academic framework of the topic within the first chapter: the definition of the terms, the criteria and method for selecting the motifs and lyrics used. Then, the position of Czech pop music in the cultural and political context of the period is explained, which is a relevant part of the topic itself. Also an outline of the academic reflection of the related topic is referred to as well as the function of biblical motifs in other styles of music (rock, folk and underground music) with the emphasis on the projection of the stylistic differences into using these topics for the lyrics. The following four chapters are probes into the pop music and biblical motifs issue.They are meant as the reflection of the the inner dynamics of the genre as well: in the second and third chapters the selected biblical motifs (general motifs, prayers, biblicisms and biblical characters) are enlisted and the anylysis of their funcion and using for various lyrics is provided in comparison with their biblical message and introducing the original loci in the B ible. The influence of environmental factors on abundance of conservation important species in Tetínské skály Nature Reserve

Tetínské skály Nature Reserve is one of the major sites for the presence of protected species, which are Dianthus gratianopolitanus, Saxifraga rosacea subsp. Sponhemica and Saxifraga paniculata. My goal was a field survey and data collection about the incidence of these species on the surfaces of rock walls, followed by identification of key environmental factors and description of their impact on the species. Such survey has not been conduncted so far. I used mainly multivariate analysis, PCA and RDA and One-way ANOVA to determine the interrelationships. The analysis results showed significant differences in species abundances influenced by different combinations of environmental factors. The factors with significant influence include cardinal direction. The highest proportion of species abundances showed areas of eastern orientation. Another important factor was shading from vegetation, which proved to have strong negative impact on abundace, especially for species S.rosacea subsp. sponhemica and D. gratianopolitanus. These two variables indicate a preference for sunny areas. Myths of the czech music alternative in the 1980s

Dissertation "Myths of the Czech Music Alternative in the 1980s" presents an anthropological view of the phenomenon of a parallel culture in a limiting situation. On the basis of biographical narratives, additional interviews and data gained from other types of sources, "myths" are constructed for seven major figures of the Czech alternative scene. This is an insider's ethnomusicological interpretation, based on Mircea Eliade's and Bronislaw Malinowski's concepts of myth as recurrent and exemplary models of behavior. The described personalities, Jazz Section (Prometheus), Miroslav Wanek ("hero's journey") Karel Babuljak ("search for paradise lost"), Pavel Zajíček (Odysseus), Mikoláš Chadima ("Rebel"), Oldřich Janota (Hermes), and Marka Míková (Psyche), represent some of the main trends in creative processes of the Czech music alternative scene with myth being used as a metaphor. The metaphor is understood here in the terms of Timothy Rice, i.e. as an organization principle of our thinking, as well as an illuminating image.
