The death of Jan Masaryk in the periodical press

The bachelor's thesis "The Death of Jan Masaryk" in the periodical press deals with how selected media reported on the person and death of Jan Masaryk in the period from February 25 to March 31, 1948. Specifically, these are the dailies Rudé právo and Svobodné noviny (known as Lidové noviny) . But first, he deals with the person and important events in the life of Jan Masaryk. Subsequently, it presents a brief history of both dailies. He then deals with the analysis of articles in both periodicals. The researched texts could be divided into two periods: first, before Masaryk's death and the second, the days after his death. In the first period, the dailies did not pay much attention to Jan Masaryk. They rarely wrote about him, mostly in connection with forming a new government, of which he became a member. In the second period, the number of texts mentioning his name grew significantly. The most common topic was Masaryk's funeral, first its organization, then its course and Masaryk's interview for the French daily L'ordre, from which both dailies quoted very often. At that time, it was a turning point in Czechoslovakia when non-communist ministers resigned, and Klement Gottwald began to form a government in which the Communists prevailed. My bachelor thesis Side Effect / This could be us consists of a series of photographs and the texts in the form of a visual intimate diary and focuses mainly on self-reflection. As in my previous works, I reflect on romantic and sexual relationships, changes in my mental and physical condition, whether caused by love affairs, any kind of addiction, or by taking anti- depressants. The side effect of medical psychotherapy affecting sexuality is one of the top- ics I reveal in my project. By creating my self-portraits and writing explicit notes, I satisfy the obsessive need to share my intimate life - digital exhibitionism has a therapeutic meaning in this case, it helps to ex- perience and cope with my current state. I interpret intimacy from the perspective of sharing a personal space. I explore the physical and symbolic nature of the text as the way of ex- pression and my own body as a tool for preserving and living memories. Focusing on the body I materialise it as the map of touches, I turn my experiences into a physical form.

In my diploma thesis I am based primarily on the current problems that surround us, the texts of rap music, European cinematography and the environment of the Brno "Bronx", in which I have a studio and can authentically observe the ubiquitous problems in the Czech Ghetto. I will be based on my drawings. I have been dealing with this topic for a long time, but now I would like to make a certain overlap and a certain comparison. I will work not only with drawing and painting, but it is also possible that I will also use texts, recordings and videos.

Suitable methods of data prepration for mutistream compression

This work focuses on compression algorithm called multistream compression. We have tried to improve this algorithm to be competitive with other commonly used compression algorithms. We have also tried to combine it with well-known transformations like BWT or MTF to efficiently handle text files. Another part of the research was compose characters into bigger parts and transform the result by multistream compression. We have tried blocks of constant length like bigrams and blocks of variable length like syllables or words. Last experiments was with small changes of MSC algorithm and compare them with the original algorithm.

Prayer in the parables in the Gospel of Luke

The Master's thesis Prayer in the Luke's Parables first deals with the definition of the parable itself: how the modern narratology understands it, how was this literary form used in the Old Testament and in the New Testament connotations. Further, it discusses the Gospel of Luke as a separate literary unit with an editorial plan regarding especially parables, and also describes the circumstances of its inception, the recipients, contemporary realities, etc. The next part outlines the basic teachings on prayer in the Church Documents. Then the thesis separately analyses both the grammar and the interpretation of three particularly important Luke's parables concerning prayer (L 11,513; L 18,18; 18, L 18,914). Their common contribution to Jesus' teachings on prayer is summarized in the conclusion.

Taboo and noa in communication. Realization of linguistic taboos in the print media. This thesis deals with issues of the taboo and noa in language and communication. The core of this thesis is to identify the essential tabooed themes in contemporary society and ways of their linguistic realization in the print media. In the theoretical part of this thesis is the first explained substance of the terms such as taboo, noa, communication and linguistic taboos with regard to the interrelations between these terms. In the empirical part are then defined tabooed themes occurring in the concrete texts of the diary Mladá fronta DNES and Blesk and of the periodical Rytmus života and ways of their linguistic grasping. The thesis focuses above all on the manifestations of speech restrictions in the lexical plan of the language.

News Feed Classifications to Improve Volatility Predictions

This thesis analyzes various text classification techniques in order to assess whether the knowledge of published news articles about selected companies can improve its' stock return volatility modelling and forecasting. We examine the content of the textual news releases and derive the news sentiment (po larity and strength) employing three different approaches: supervised machine learning Naive Bayes algorithm, lexicon-based as a representative of linguistic approach and hybrid Naive Bayes. In hybrid Naive Bayes we consider only the words contained in the specific lexicon rather than whole set of words from the article. For the lexicon-based approach we used independently two lexicons one with binary another with multiclass labels. The training set for the Naive Bayes was labeled by the author. When comparing the classifiers from the machine learning approach we can conclude that all of them performed similarly with a slight advantage of the hybrid Naive Bayes combined with multiclass lexicon. The resulting quantitative data in form of sentiment scores will be then incorpo rated into GARCH volatility modelling. Linguistic formulation of propaganda in the press in the time of former Czechoslovakia

The goal of this thesis is to identify specific language elements in selected opinion pieces that appeared in Rudé právo newspaper over the course of 1975. The first part of the thesis examines terms such as persuasion, propagandism and manipulation, and considers the interrelations between these terms. Following sections of the paper are devoted to the characterization of distinct elements of persuasion as traced in diverse articles of Rudé právo. In a pragmatic perspective, the thesis describes such linguistic attempts at manipulating the reader as means to praise the communist regime or to defame its adversaries. Myth and National Identity

The thesis aims to explore the relationship between national identity and the myth. Key to the analysis are the questions of the manner in which a collective identity becomes dependant on literary narrations as well as the particular motives that constitute these narrations. The analysis of the relationship is carried out in reference to particular literary texts. The discussion is based on the critical approach of literary theory and the analyses of relevant socio-political aspects. The discussion is based on a comparative approach to the chosen literary texts. The comparative method focuses on the socio-political and historical contexts of the literary works, as well as on the different concepts of communal identity portrayed. Key texts to the debate are the collection of poems of James Macpherson, Poems of Ossian, Sir Walter Scott's historical novel, Waverley, and the Czech Manuscripts of Dvůr Králové and Zelená Hora. This thesis commences the discussion with a theoretical approach to the relationship between myth and history. The discussion aims at the manner in which both the mentioned elements constitute collective identity.
