Czech Disinformation Media During the Media and Political Case of Russian Sabotage in Vrbětice and their Connection to the Russian Narrative: the Case of Parlamentní listy
Gottwald, Antonín ; Šír, Jan (advisor) ; Marian, Jan (referee)
The presented thesis examines the presence of elements of Russian strategic narratives in the news of the Parlamentní listy platform on the case of the Vrbětice medial case, which arose after the government's announcement of the involvement of Russian agents in warehouse explosions in Vrbětice in April 2021. The chosen method was a qualitative content analysis of the news that came out in the week after the announcement of information about Russian agents and their involvement in the explosions. Its results were processed using quantitative analysis. The research question was to what extent the Parlamentní listy platform spreads Russian propaganda in cases that are sensitive topic for Russian foreign policy, and by what practices it does so. The thesis also contains a description of the used method and the theoretical embedding of the investigated issue and terms used, such as narrative, strategic narrative, Russian information warfare, etc.

The Boook of Ruth: Narrative Analysis of the Text
Kreutziger, Kamil ; Beneš, Jiří (advisor) ; Roubalová, Marie (referee)
The conclusion of this thesis brings an understanding of the deeper meaning of the book of Ruth and its role in the lives of God's followers. The application of the tools of narrative analysis clearly showed that on the background of Naomi and Ruth's deeply human story unfolds another one. It is the story of the Lord who is invisibly directing events and human destinies to present and reveal the work and mission of his Messiah to the whole mankind. The main characters in the story provide an eloquent example of faith to follow and in a very plastic way imply the role of the Redeemer. Thus the story builds up faith of people in the Lord and prepares them to recognize and accept his Messiah. And this may be the mission and function of the book of Ruth in the biblical canon. Narratives and Religion: Particularities and Functions of Narration in Religious Context
Širl, Radim ; Chlup, Radek (advisor) ; Lyčka, Milan (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to analyse certain aspects connecting religion and narration (which is understood here as a common human faculty to think and express oneself in the form of narratives). The first part of the thesis is concerned with methodology; first of all, the issues of defining narrative are introduced and a more elaborate definition is presented. A complete methodology is then formulated with a help of several authors (mainly James W. Pennebaker and Mary Douglas) in order to distinguish particularities and functions of creating narratives in religious contexts. Two main points are stressed here: that the content of the narratives is often concerned with problematic aspects of experience and that the expression of these narratives is beneficial for their creators. The second part focuses on several religious institutions concerned with creation of narratives which are interpreted with the outlined methodology. In this manner, the act of confession in Catholicism, prayer in Christianity and certain healing rituals are described and interpreted. Conclusions of this thesis should help the reader get a basic idea of the way created narratives in religious contexts affect their authors.
Superman: The Semantics, Evolution Poetics and Socio-cultural Specificities of the Superhero Comics.
Cibulčík, Jaroslav ; Bílek, Petr (advisor) ; Činátlová, Blanka (referee)
This bachelor thesis considers the genre of superhero comics since its appearance in 1938 to the present time. The thesis, according to chosen comic books, tries to generally describe and interpret superhero discourse, in particular the evolution and various specificities. The main focus is on the comics narrativity and primary aspects of narration (narrator, intertextuality, characters, time of story). There is no analysis touching visual comics aspects. The only exception - the last chapter - examines the impressive evolution poetics of the title-pages.
Ancient Egyptian Mythological Narratives. Structural Interpretation of the Tale of Two Brothers, Tale of the Doomed Prince, the Astarte Papyrus, the Osirian Cycle and the Anat Myth
Pehal, Martin ; Chlup, Radek (advisor) ; Spalinger, Anthony John (referee) ; Stauder, Andreas (referee)
is study is composed of two units: manuscript of the author's publication Interpreting Ancient Egyptian Narratives: A Structural Analysis of the Tale of Two Brothers, the Anat Myth, the Osirian Cycle, and the Astarte Papyrus (Nouvelles études orientales, Bruxelles-Fernelmont: EME, 2014) and an additonal chapter entitled Accommodating Ambivalence: Case of the Doomed Prince and His Dog, which follows directly a er the Index of the first unit and which extends the applied methodology to yet another New Kingdom mythological narrative, the so-called Tale of the Doomed Prince. Methodologically, the author follows the neo-structuralist approach. Both studies explain the strong configurational character of ancient Egyptian (mythological) thought which has the ability to connect various ontological levels of human experience with the surrounding world into complex synchronic structures. ese symbolical systems are shown to be mediating between the various cultural paradoxes which were inherent to ancient Egyptian society. Axial role in this process is a ributed to the institution of positional kingship represented by the Pharaoh. Its transformative function is also put into relation to the special status of female characters who are shown to play the part of the "powerful powerless ones" further personifying...
Moral aspects in the story of the first Book of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Attempt at a view of narrative ethics
Kozelský, Kamil ; Lorman, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Ovečka, Libor (referee)
C. S. Lewis was one of the greatest Christian apologists of modern times. He did not only write in Christianity defence, he also wrote a lot about morality and its close interrelationship with faith. This work aims, to demonstrate the moral message put into his work for children, specifically in the story I. Part of the Chronicles of Narnia. It tries to answer the question of whether they can be understood as a general parable of Christian life, spiritual warfare, or inner transformation of a man meeting God. It aims to show precisely the situation hidden in the story, which can be applied to everyday life situations. For example, issues stemming from (in my opinion) the most impressive image of the entire book: What gave strength to Edmund turn from evil to good after meeting with Aslan? What is the nature of this image from the perspective of moral theology and how it is applicable in our Christian life? In this work, I rely on the concept of ethics in other books by C. S. Lewis. Grammaticalization potentiel of the anaphoric ten in spoken narative discourse
Zíková, Magdalena ; Friedová, Mirjam (advisor) ; Nedolužko, Anna (referee) ; Berger, Tilman (referee)
In my Ph.D. thesis, I examine the use of referential devices in spoken narrative discourse with predominant anaphoric reference. Special attention is paid to the relationship between two competing forms: lexical phrases containing the lexeme ten (ten-MARKED NPs) and lexical phrases not containing it (UNMARKED NPs) in repeated mentions. A primary aim of the work is (i) to identify factors favouring the use of ten-marked NPs at the expense of unmarked NPs and (ii) to explore the possibility of the lexeme ten grammaticalizing from its anaphoric use. Theoretically and methodologically I benefit mostly from the conception of discourse anaphora and the theory of grammaticalization. The referential devices are systematically explored in terms of their distribution into different classes according to a set of parameters and their values. These parameters reflect the conceptual (animacy), grammatical (syntactic function, type of clause etc.) as well as discourse characteristics of the forms and their referents (informational status of the NP in the clause, activation and persistence of the referent, etc.). The data consist of 45 short narratives produced by 15 speakers. The speakers' task was to retell three short silent-movie sketches which they had seen immediately before the recording. The design of the...
Comprehensive immigration reform suspended: Lessons from the U.S. Senate 2004-2010
Švajda, Michal ; Kozák, Kryštof (advisor) ; Calda, Miloš (referee)
The M.A. thesis "Comprehensive Immigration Reform Postponed: Lessons from the Senate 2004- 2010" elaborates upon the causes hindering in the years 2004 to 2010 the adoption of a comprehensive immigration reform in the United States of America. The main goal of the thesis is to assess the consequences of the polarization of the American political scene on the immigration reform and to evaluate the party divide on the matter upon the floor remarks made by the members of Senate Committee on the Judiciary taking in account the differences in between the 109th and 111th Senate. The focus on the Committee on the Judiciary is justified by the role played by its members in the drafting process of particular reform proposals. The scope of the polarization of the Committee is assessed upon the aggravated means attributed to the most dominant narratives used by the senators. The remarks used in the evaluation are addressed in the context of the most significant contemporary factors influencing the polarization of American political scene as well as under the light of the development surpassing the domestic affairs.
