Jaroslav Švelch Abstract Media convergence - continuous merging of media determined by new technologies development - is one of the most significant phenomenons nowadays. The theoretical portion of this thesis describes technological, economical and content aspects of convergence. It is emphasizing Henry Jenkins's definition, which characterizes convergence as change in audience behavior, their active media content consumption. This contrast between passive audience of old traditional media and active audience of convergence media is a premise of following empirical portion of the thesis. It aims to assign socio- demographic characteristics to these contradictory descriptions. Audience of MF DNES, Rádio Impuls and TV Nova are elected as representatives of traditional audience and their profile is compared with iDnes.cz, Impuls.cz and nova.cz users characteristics. Audience perception to the paradoxical narrative in the series Game of Thrones

The thesis "Audience reception to the paradoxical narrative in the series Game of Thrones" focuses on the research of the audience and its reactions to the unusual plot twists in the series Game of Thrones producted by HBO. The Audience and its reactions to specifically selected twists were researched through qualitative methods of deep semi-structured interview which was carried out with ten respondents. "Primary" audience, i.e. the viewers who had not read any books from the Ice and Fire saga before watching the show, was choosen as a research sample for this study. Reactions of this audience are more spontaneous and unpredictable. The primary aim of the research is to find out how viewers react to the newly defined paradoxical narrative in the Game of Thrones series and why they keep watching this series despite its unusual plot twists.

Nákupné maniačky - fashion show or reality show?

The Master's thesis is focused on the Slovakian TV show Nákupné maniačky and its' audience. The purpose of the thesis is to reveal the motivations leading to watching this show and to explore, whether the viewers perceive the show as a fashion show which allows them to draw inspiration, or rather as a reality show that should entertain them. The theoretical part introduces the concepts as audience, uses and gratifications and reality show genre. The final analysis of the acquired data is based on these terms but it aims to invent a new hypothesis. The second part is devoted to the research that is based on a qualitative method of a grounded theory. Required data was collected by the semi-structured interviews with viewers divided into two age categories. The result of categorizing data indicates that for all viewers the main motivation for watching the show is to have fun. Participants reported enjoying the program because of its' humour, while fashion plays an irrelevant role. The findings also show that participants are aware of interventions of production and they explained manipulating competitors as a strategy of the broadcasters to entertain audience and attract more viewers. This assumption was confirmed by an informant interview with one of the creators of the show.
Tje evolution of television and its audience

The diploma thesis will be devoted to the theme of traditional and new media, that are becoming dominates the media world and an important part of everyday life. The text aims to introduce television as a medium that is constantly evolving, as well as the and its audience. Based on this assumption, we will examine television from the perspective of several main media theorists. In fact, there are several basically different views on this medium and its audience. Especially older writers such as Pierre Bourdieu, Neil Postman, Jeremy Orlebar or Guy Debord, have become accustomed to television and the overall medial platform as manipulative and television audience passive. On the other hand, there are also several authors, who see media in progress, digitization and the emergence of new media as new possibilities. We are talking about Pierre Levy, Don Tapscott and Axel Bruns. Between the two opposites are still moving Stuart Hall and John Fiske. Special attention will be devoted to the issue of the gradual development of television as a medium and its audience. Qualitative Research Exploring the Credibility of Social Networks as News Sources in the Czech Republic

This master's thesis focuses on the credibility of social media as news sources in journalistic practices in the Czech Republic. The paper is based on the sociological conceptualization of trust put forward by Niklas Luhmann and Piotr Sztompka and its modern adaptation by media scholars, e.g. Thorsten Quandt. The aim of this work has been to find out through thirteen substantive, one- on-one interviews with readers of the print and online media editions of Krkonošský deník how the credibility of news stories depend on the information sources used. The thesis includes the theoretical part that is based on the theoretical conceptualization of trust: from the main concepts and conflict topics to the journalistic practices that should ensure trustworthiness and audiences' perceptions of trustworthiness. The Methodology section describes the area of qualitative research and related procedures, which include a detailed description of the data collection method, which is a semi-structured, in-depth interview, and the characteristics of the research sample. In findings the results of the research from the data obtained through interviews conducted with respondents are interpreted. The conclusion of the thesis is dedicated to summarizing the research results.

The target of the thesis Relation between Textual Devices and Popularity of Media Text on the Example of Radio Series "Tlučhořovi" is to reveal if there exist any connection between significant textual devices used in the series and its popularity and success. As methods there are used semiotic analysis of sample of the series episodes and "respondent interview" with the listeners. In the first there is focus mainly on particular textual devices and in the second on what respondents consider to be reasons why they do listen to the series. Significant textual devices are one of the central themes of cultural studies and this work sets itself a task to deduce from findings conclusion which would be generalizable to relation between media texts and their audiences universally.

This diploma thesis deals with food blogs as a current phenomenon. The theoretical part first brings a look at the historical context and development that preceded the existence of blogs. It focuses on communication, media and the Internet. It also offers definitions of these key and related terms and theoretical background that are needed to understand the context. Subsequently, the work discusses journalism and the position of blogs in this field. It continues with a detailed elaboration of the topic of blogs. It analyzes their historical context in our country and in the world, defines concepts, distinguishes types of blogs, draws attention to the pitfalls of blogging, deals with etiquette and laws, presents current trends and surveys, addresses authors - bloggers and their motivation, the position of bloggers towards journalists, the expected future and influencers. Eurovision Song Contest and its watching by Czech audience in the context of their interest in the European Union

The diploma thesis focuses on the connection of interest in the international music competition Eurovision Song Contest and in the European Union. The theoretical part shows the current approaches to the study of the contest, which is watched annually by almost 200 million viewers worldwide. The work also provides space for a brief history of the contest, including a detailed description of how the Czech Republic participated there, what the country has done only at the time of membership in the European Union. The competition, based on a grouping of European states, is placed here in the context of the European Union, which together share the motivation for their historical establishment. The text therefore shows the history and development of the European Communities and the establishment of the European Union and its institutions. One of them is the European Parliament, whose representatives are directly elected by the citizens of the Member States. This thesis, titled Media reflection of TV ratings results before and after the introduction of electronic measurement, focuses on usage and presentation of TV ratings results in the Czech print media. The phenomenon of TV ratings is first discussed on the theoretical level and the initial part is dedicated to description of media functioning from the economic point of view [primarily the attitude of the Czech media scene toward TV ratings measurement]. Subsequently, the attention is aimed at the TV audience and its surveying. The author distinguishes between commercial and academic audience surveying and also deals with the history of TV audience research and measurement worldwide and also in the Czech Republic. He focuses primarily on the critique of the use of quantitative methodology based surveys for TV ratings. The second part of this thesis is based on the content analysis of three main Czech daily newspapers in 1996 - 1999 (specifically columns dedicated to the culture related topics).
