The Encounters of Love and Nature in the Lyric Poetry of Eduard Mörike
Dvořáková, Tereza ; Broukalová, Jindra (advisor) ; Bučková, Tamara (referee)
This diploma thesis explores the lyrical poetry of Eduard Mörike (1804-1875), a German poet. The topic of the thesis is theencountering of nature and love in his works. This poet, less known in the Czech context, wrote various kinds of poems, which deserve attention. The thesis is divided in two parts, theoretical and interpretative. In the first part, the thesis focuses on giving an overall context (I deal with a historical context, literary epochs, during which Eduard Mörike wrote, his personality and general introduction in lyrical poetry). The second part of my thesis aims to interpret selected poems, which are divided bytheir themes: romantic love, the morning, wayfaring, the forest and the so-called "Dinggedichte," or poems focusing on understanding and appreciation of a single item. In each poem, a mood or feeling that characterizes the poem is described, who is the speaker within the poem, and which topics of love and nature can be observed. From the perspective of form, I analyze the rhyme scheme. The analysis of each thematic group also contains a comparation of the poems. The interpretational part aims to connect and evaluate the interweaving of love and nature in the poetic works of Eduard Mörike and touch upon the deeper meaning of the poems. Its aim is also to make the selected works...
The Motif of Machine in Descartes' Metaphysics
Sedlická, Denisa ; Rybák, David (advisor) ; Hauser, Michael (referee)
The master's thesis discusses basic elements of metaphysics by René Descartes. The first part of the thesis focuses on his personal life because certain events shaped and influenced his further actions and ideas. To understand the context of time, the paper presents history knowledge that is relevant to the topic. René Descartes is still known today for his philosophical ideas which helped to develop findings in the field of metaphysics. During his lifetime, that is the first half of the 17th century, natural sciences were gaining in popularity. The thesis follows up with mathematization and geometrization of nature. Descartes' basic premise of knowledge is methodical skepticism which ultimately results in his first personal certainty of philosophy. Next part focuses on the clarification of the dualistic concept of two different substances - rez extensa and res cogitans. The largest and most important part deals with the mechanical conception of the human body. René Descartes believes that the human body is a machine operated by mechanical principles. The thesis introduces a systematic description of the body which logically justifies the primary ideas of this French philosopher. KEYWORDS René Descartes, methaphysics, dualism, mind, body, God, machine, mathematics, geometry
Nature as a sanctuary in selected poems of William Wordsworth
Roučková, Pavla ; Higgins, Bernadette (advisor) ; Topolovská, Tereza (referee)
This thesis deals with the theme of nature as a sanctuary in selected poems of William Wordsworth. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate such aspects of Wordsworth's writings that portray the outdoors as a shelter, where one can escape from the industrial, urbanised society in order to reach a tranquil state of mind and through meditation and introspection find wisdom. The main features of Wordsworth's interpretation of a sanctuary that this thesis discusses are nature as a source of serenity, nature as a teacher and the superiority of nature over the city. This thesis also provides a factual background and insight into the life of the poet in order to investigate the motivations behind the choice of nature as the main subject in his writings. The thesis begins with the introduction of the romantic movement as a whole. In this part of the document, romanticism will be introduced and discussed by commenting on and contrasting works of other writers of that era with the works of William Wordsworth with the primary focus being on the theme of nature in order to establish the poet's position within the movement. The theoretical part also deals with the childhood and adolescent life of Wordsworth as a primary motivator for portraying the topics mentioned above in his poetry through studying The...

Life in the isolation

The answer to what Zaježová is, can be simple. Zaježová are so called „lazy“. Zaježová is perceived by the outside world - society - primarily as an alternative community of people living in coexistence with nature, and “Zaježová” presents itself “in this way”. Personally, I think that Zaježová is defined mainly by the strong individualities of people who are able to say about themselves and present that they live in a community. Last but not least, Zaježová is a place where I spent a large part of my childhood, because my parents belonged to these strong individuals and decided to live life “alone”. My work tries to capture what Zaježová is through various media, including architecture. The output is a set of atypical tourist maps and a proposal to transform the former fire station into a gallery.
Sanatorium with speleotherapy for children in Ostrov u Macochy
Promna, Denisa ; Odvárka, Antonín (referee) ; Žalmanová, Petra (advisor)
The main idea was to choose a child as a measure of design. Immerse yourself in his world and his perception of space - keep in mind his needs. What did the place where he would be able to recover from respiratory problems look like? Was she in the hospital? What kind of room was that? What was that for? place? Did nature play any meaning in that? Would you like to go back there? How does she remember him? The aim was to create a place that resembles the hospital environment as little as possible, is in direct contact with nature and attracts to get to know it more. The stay in the hospital should be more reminiscent of spending holidays at school in nature. How to avoid austere hospital premises? Is there such a guide at all? Should I draw inspiration elsewhere? Where do we go to gain strength from everyday worries? In nature, of course. And how does this need translate into architecture? And we have at all such architecture? The answer to the questions I asked was the cottage. House created for a stay in nature. But how to lift it to something richer and more interesting? There was something else that fascinated me as a child spending time in Luhačovice - the spa environment. How these two forms to connect?

Housing for bro
Kropšová, Zuzana ; Šnajdarová, Helena (referee) ; Mléčka, Jan (advisor)
I have a brother with a mental disability. The moment when he will move away from his mom‘s house is slowly approaching. The question is: Where will he move? What will he do during the days? Where will he be able to work? Will he be able to live like most of us? Will he be useful and beneficial for society? Will people perceive him as someone who needs help or as someone who has something to offer? Architecture gives space to people. Space that forms them. Space has the power to unite people. It can tear down barriers which have been build during the years. Space can open up new possibilities. That is why I am convinced that I can find answers to my questions through architecture. In my work, I want to map the life of an adult with a mental disability and find a way how to integrate him into the mainstream society fully. I want to find a way how to make partners from clients. Since I have lived with a person with a mental disability for 15 years of my life, I will rely primarily on my personal experience. I tailored the work to my brother, but, at the same time, I want it to have a general outreach. I will draw inspiration from literature, legislation, and personal meetings.
