Unlearned Social Change: A Study of Transitory Order
Tomášek, Marcel ; Šubrt, Jiří (advisor) ; Maslowski, Nicolas (referee) ; Rasiński, Lotar (referee) ; Červinková, Hana (referee)
The thesis is a qualitative study of grey zones and grey phenomena on the border of economy and politics in the Czech Republic from 1995 to 2013. The widely ingrained presupposition that the closing dot to the 'transition phase' was the Europeanization process as connected to the procedures associated with becoming an EU member is commonly spread and taken for granted. Given verifying this presumption, the research field has been divided into two distinctive subperiods: the first one investigates patterns of practice as they were associated primarily with the stage of the change, which may be labelled as post-privatization/secondary privatization (1995-2004). The second subperiod in focus (2004-2013) has been the period from entering the EU in 2004 to the shockwave of reconstitution of the Czech political scene in 2013 after the government-parliamentary-clan-clientelist structures collision and the resignation of the Czech government. The empirical sources for the inquiry have been primarily the particular instances of happenings and problematic undertakings in the overlap of politics and economy as they are registered and referred to, for the given period of 1995-2013, in the weekly periodicals - Respekt, Ekonom. The theoretical grounding of the study has been developed from identifying four waves...

The transition from IBORs to new benchmarks
Ratajová, Kateřina ; Polák, Petr (advisor) ; Čech, František (referee)
The manipulation of LIBOR (London Interbank O ered Rate) and other issues around the interbank o er rates have led to their replacement by overnight rates. Some interbank o ered rates ceased at the end of 2021. Thus, this thesis is devoted to observing their behavior, estimating their drivers, and comparing them. For analysis of the rates' drivers is used ARIMAX model, which is an ARIMA model extended by exogenous variables. The possible drivers are indexes, which indicate volatility, sensibility, financial stress, and liquidity. Among key findings of this thesis are that the European IBOR rates are more prone to market volatility, which explains the impact of the European stock index. Furthermore, Bloomberg's indexes of financial condition are a good indicator for both European IBOR rates as well as British pound LIBOR and SONIA. In the US, USD LIBOR reacts to a liquidity index, while SOFR to the volatility in the market. Tomas Ricka Stránka 1 Title: The influence of public policy on legal order of Czech Republic during transition Abstract: The thesis deals with public policy, its key components and influences on the institutional environment. The major aim of the thesis was to analyze, what was the influence of public (economic) policy in transition on the creation of rules in the Czech Republic. Who created the policy? How was the policy conducted? What was the role of the rules? What was the international context in that era? What was the influence of these external factors on the development in the Czech Republic. Other goals of the thesis dealt with the following: availability of suitable tools to analyze transition; key assumptions of public policy; rule making; the role of rule makers. The thesis does not attempt to describe all relevant approaches from modern economic theory that would be useful to analyze the transition processes. The thesis uses a selection of tools that can help to analyze institutions and rules in society from another view, than does standard legal theory or political science. Use of tools of economic analysis (especially from the area of microeconomics and new approaches of economics) can be characterized as complementary for institutional analysis. Transition and privatization of state property...
