Master's thesis "Philosophy and community" looks into the origin of ancient greek term "polis" and inception of its citizen. It looks into it as specifical means of being of world and human. The correlation of polis and citizen is most apparent in philosophy of Plato. With an emphasis on his privilegy of spoken word over written one, he shows possible sources of philosophical hermeneutics. By understanding the situation, which leads to the decline of the reciprocal relationship between human and world, author would like to express that in Platos way of thinking are still unreflected possibilities of solution for the present day. Intention of this work is to contribute - by sketching and explication of the principles of political thinking - to the discussion - and not only to that of the political philosophy and political science.

Marie Pětová, Ph.D. Abstract: Master thesis Silently listen to one's own being: Relationship of bodily sensations and sense in the early philosophy of M. Heidegger deals with the question of possibility of discussing the motive of body and bodily sensations within the framework of M. Heidegger's fundamental ontology and finding a relationship between bodily sensations and sense within this conception. The first part of the thesis demonstrates through the exposition of worldhood as the existential trait of Dasein that Dasein as ,being in the world' is necessarily bodily being, otherwise the world which is the whole of references would disintegrate. The second part reveals the necessity to conceive the bodily sensations in relation to state-of-mind (Befindlichkheit) as a fundamental trait of this being and not as the mere concomitant phenomenon. Thus the bodily sensation is via state-of-mind (Befindlichkheit) co-constitutive trait of original phenomenon "there" which is in its nature a temporal unity of the traits state-of mind, speech and understanding. Meaning of life in the work of Karel Čapek

The thesis named "Sense of Life in the Work of Karel Čapek" treats the problems of raison- d'etre of life seen by Karel Čapek. At first this thesis is preoccupied by Čapek's personality and character of his era. Karel Čapek is characterized as an author in whose works were projected his philosophical views influenced mainly by pragmatism. The thesis analyses Čapek's works treating issues of sense of life. Particularly these are two proses by Čapek "Obyčejný život" (Common Life) and "Život a dílo skladatele Foltýna "(The Life and Work of Composer Foltýn). These two novels are at first analyzed separately and then compared.

Hope and Meaning of Human Existence: Comparing the Approach to Human Existence of Gabriel Marcel and Albert Camus

73 Abstract The first part of my dissertation deals with the philosophy of Gabriel Marcel. It begins with the basic information about the philosopher as well as with his thinking placed within the context of the philosophy's history. Next step is Mr. Marcel's ideas about the feeling of the essence of life which is significant to experience in one man's life in order to set off the journey of englightenment. The feeling of the essence of life is unfortunately being silenced in nowadays people. After that I introduce the philosopher's conception of the imprisonment of a human being. This imprisonment is the cornerstone of his explanation of the metaphysics of hope. At the end of the first part I submit the power and the importance of hope in a human's state of mind which can be so stable that even the death of the beloved doesn't mean the end of hope. As mentioned before, the second part begins with the information about Mr. Albert Camus and I also put his philosophy in the context of the history. The most important step is to introduce his feeling of the futility without which the philosophy of Mr. Camus cannot be understood. The aim of the project is to create eudaimonic environment in the framework of existing city blocks of Husovice in Brno. Simple interventions and minimal means are used to create environment which allows it´s inhabitants to live complex and fulfilled lives.

What is Phenomenology? The Inevitability of the Clash between Husserl and Heidegger

Based on the explicit Husserl-Heidegger polemic, which concerned the ''Phenomenology'' entry for Encyclopaedia Britannica, my thesis captures conflict between the two protagonists precisely when it becomes direct. Tracing the main issues of their dispute, I will firstly demonstrate that the conflict is not a consequence of mutual misunderstanding, but rather a disagreement coming from the core itself of their respective theories. It could therefore not have been avoided. Secondly, I will show that the leading intentions of both traditional versions of phenomenology are not only irreconcilable, but essentially contradictory.
