The essay consists of three parts. In the opening segment, the author elaborates on the historical background of the evolution of the fairytale. The first mentions are of the original oral versions known throughout the Europe, but also other parts of the world (Asia, Africa). For the western culture, however, the most important ones are the literally recorded tales by Charles Perrault and Brothers Grimm. Slavíčková, Barbora ; Smetáčková, Irena (advisor) ; Pavlík, Petr (referee)
This thesis deals with the jealousy in the context of masculinity and femininity. The work focuses on jealousy in relationships, which is viewed from a gender and psychological point of view. Main aim of the thesis is to explore the way of constructing jealousy in the context of gender and to find any differences and similarities in such constructs. I am going to fulfill the aim through content analysis of selected lifestyle journals, while some of them are gender-focused on their readers and some are not. The work is divided into two parts, the first, theoretical part deals with the particular definitions and theoretical approaches to jealousy, their description and explanation of the origin of differences in jealousy between men and women. In my own research I use a combination of quantitative and qualitative content analysis of the most widely read magazines in the Czech Republic and therefore I can provide a more comprehensive insight into the topic and gain more comprehensive information about the link between jealousy and gender. I believe that the work will bring better insight into the question of designing jealousy in the context of gender. The theoretical part is brought to an end with a chapter on gender and ethnicity and their mutual connection. The practical part concentrates on research dealing with quantitative data, however the data is processed with the qualitative approach. The data was collected through drawings of elementary school pupils, then a coding key was created and used for coding of the drawings. All the data acquired is then presented and interpreted. The outcome of this research was finding that kids of various ethnicities percieve the difference between masculinity and feminiity in similar way, there is no significant projection of the ethnicity into the schemes. It explores fairy tales, their role as socialization agents and the theory of feminist critique of fairy tales. It also focuses on film adaptations of fairy tales and more specifically on Disney studio and the criticism of it. The examined films were subjected to analysis based on the method of grounded theory. During the research a significant advancement was discovered in the portrayal of female and male heroes, romantic love, patriarchal society in fairy tale worlds and in the representation of race and sexual minorities.
