Divination Practices of Christmas Ritual Cycle in the Czech Lands

My work presents a typological index of divination practices performed during an interval between the beginning of Advent and Epiphany (Three Kings' Day). This list is made of folk practices known in the Czech lands since advent of Christianity until now. Particular types of divination practices are sorted by goals achieved by divination, not chronologically. Framework of this work is made by general interpretation of the divination itself as cultural practice with introduction to the context of Christian Christmas celebration and also to the problematics of koexistence of Slavic pre-Christian culture with Christian culture in early Middle Ages. Main data use in my work are ethnographic data drawn from books of Č. Zíbrt, J. I. Hanuš and other Czech ethnographers. Theoretical parts are based on works of scholars of religion, folklorists and anthropologists such as M. Eliade, K. J. Erben or K. Richter. Coal-fired power plants: cheap electricity vs. clean environment

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the importance of coal-fired power plants on the market of electric energy, with emphasis on aspects that fundamentally affect their production. Coal-fired power plants belongs nowadays among socially unpopular source of electricity. In recent decades intensively growing interest groups that support state intervention and regulation of the energy sector. This is essentially a massive promotion of renewable energy sources at the expense of fossil fuel plants. Analysis of individual power sources shows that despite the current restrictive measures imposed on power plants burning fossil fuels, and especially coal-fired power plants, electricity produced from coal resources is still competitive, despite some drawbacks has many positive qualities. Coal-fired power plants produce higher amounts of greenhouse gases and other pollutants than other types of power plants. On the other hand, they are able to provide a stable supply of electricity to transmission network, and thus partially offset the high volatility of electricity supply from renewable energy sources. The price of electricity from coal-fired power plants could be considered as relatively low in comparison with other energy sources. The analysis shows that in terms of practical economic policy is not economically justified to reduce the proportion of coal-fired power plants in the total production of electricity.

The object of metropolitan significance on the street Benesova Brno

Design of a new metropolitan city hall located on the Brno ringstrasse concentrates all workplaces city government in one place, namely in the northern part of the embankment between Benešova and Koliště streets near the former customs building palace Moravia. The underlying assumption is the future transfer of the main station and the release of area for the park (today trackage) and other construction.

Increase in excise duty on ethyl alcohol in the Czech Republic and it's impact

Abstract The thesis analyses effects of excise duty increase, effective from 1st January 2010. The thesis concentrates on spirits, beer and wine market. Based on the Czech Statistical Bureau study of spirits market, all the significant declines of consumption took place whenever Czech government raised rates of excise duty. In comparison with selected European countries, the Czech nominal rate of excise duty of spirits is rather average. Our excise duty of beer is one of the lowest rates in Europe. When correlating GDP, unemployment rate and alcohol consumption in Czech Republic, the thesis does not prove declines in GDP cause higher alcohol consumption nor rising unemployment results in higher alcohol consumption. However, results of correlation analysis are distorted by a short period on which data are available for the Czech Republic. Data available from both Board of Customs and Ministry of Finance proved that expectation of higher national tax revenue after rise of excise duty rate has been incorrect. The national tax revenue in 2010 was by almost 1 billion CZK lower than the government expected.

Dvoustupňová technologie anaerobní digesce biomasy a komunálních odpadů

Cílem tohoto projektu je navržení ekonomicky, energeticky a ekologicky efektivní dvoustupňové bioplynové stanice s produkcí elektrického proudu, tepla a kompostu pro zpracování biomasy a komunálních bioodpadů, zhotovení odpovídajícího modelového poloprovozního zařízení a experimentální optimalizace a zefektivnění procesů hydrolýzy při zplyňování biomasy a bioodpadů mechanickým zpracováním, aerobní nebo semiaerobní mikrobiologickou přeměnou a způsobem získávání hydrolýzních produktů. Zpráva obsahuje literární rešerši k předmětu řešení, popis vhodných technologií biozplyňování a model dvoustupňové bioplynové stanice na biomasu a komunální odpady, modelový projektový návrh dvoustupňové bioplynové stanice a metodický popis řešení projektu pro období 2004-2005.

Systém sběru dat a informací o hluku ze silniční dopravy na území ČR

Návrh systému sběru dat a informací v oblasti ochrany před hlukem a vytváření databáze údajů o hluku na území ČR a zasažení obyvatel nadměrným hlukem ve smyslu členění a požadavků OECD. Na základě získaných údajů a podle nové metodiky byly sestaveny hlukové mapy okresů a měst středočeského kraje, hluková mapa okresů Rokycany, Hodonín a Olomouc a měst Rokycany, Hodonín a Olomouc. Popis databáze určené k evidenci získaných měření a jejich vyhodnocování.
