Mgr. Klára Kudlová Anotace dizertační práce (Časově-symbolické horizonty postav v několika typech současného českého románu): Anotace: Teoretická část této práce uvádí a představuje nejprve skupinu naratologických konceptů navržených prostředí literárně-vědného kognitivismu a vztažených k problematice postav (v pracích Uriho Margolina) a jejich konfigurací (v práci Catherine Emmott(ové)) a k modelování příběhového světa (u Davida Hermana). Těmito podobami byly jednak ženský a "autentický"...

Reader-response aspects and motives by Jan Mukařovský
Flanderka, Jakub ; Trávníček, Jiří (referee) ; Holý, Jiří (referee)
This work tries to illustrate the way Jan Mukařovský reflected the aspect of reader in his papers of literature, both in terms of a reader as one of the participants of literary communication, and in terms of (potentional) Mukařovský's own reader-response experience. First chapter summarizes main theses of Ingarden's phenomenological concept of literary work, in particular in connection with a term "concretization" which Felix Vodička further developed in the context of Czech Structuralism, and also presents the main reader-response theses of Constance school, which, in fact, represented the first methodology in literary theory, that put the emphasis on the reader as its central theme, and whose representatives were inspired by Felix Vodička's and Jan Mukařovský's ideas as well. The second, the third and the fourth chapters follow the development of Jan Mukařovský's thinking in three phases between 1923 and 1948. Every chapter includes an overview, offering the key ideas and papers of the period, and an analytical part, focusing on the (chosen) passages of Mukařovský'sworks and at the same time providing appearance of readerresponse aspects (i. a. on the basis of lexical level used by Mukařovský in his reasoning). Detailed monitoring of the given periods proves that not even in the early phase of...
Self-publishing Of Electronic Literature
Porsche, Lukáš ; Ivánek, Jiří (advisor) ; Šmejkalová, Jiřina (referee) ; Trávníček, Jiří (referee)
This dissertation thesis deals with electronic self-publishing of literary fiction, i.e. its publishing by the authors themselves, without involving publishers. Support from big technology companies led to unprecedented growth of this type of publishing in the 2010s and electronic self-publishing has in some countries become one of the standard ways of publishing. In spite of its expansion, electronic self-publishing is affected by many problems. The most prominent one is comparatively lower quality of many independently published e- books, mainly caused by limited knowledge of the publishing process from the side of the authors, many of which are not proper acquainted with publishing practices. The activities that should an independent author perform during the publishing process are the same as those performed by a publisher. Due to complicated character of some of these activities, many independent authors outsource them to other parties, or do not perform them at all. In the Czech Republic, electronic self-publishing is relatively undeveloped. It is true that there has probably been hundreds or thousands e-books published independently and that the number of downloads of these books is in hundreds of thousands copies. On the other hand, majority of this literature is offered for free or for...
Poetic Spaces of Memory (on Chosen Czech Poets of the Second Half of the 20th Century)
Flanderka, Jakub ; Trávníček, Jiří (advisor) ; Hrdlička, Josef (referee) ; Málková, Iva (referee)
Poetic Spaces of Memory (on Chosen Czech Poets of the Second Half of the 20th Century) Abstract The dissertation Poetic Spaces of Memory (on Chosen Czech Poets of the Second Half of the 20th Century) offers interpretations of six Czech poetic works of the second half of the 20th century, with focus on the perspective of cultural memory. Chosen poetic works represent synecdoches of poetic description of (general) historical events and experience that are connected with the time during the World War II (the Nazi regime) and with communist regime after 1948 and to some extent are connected with spatial dimension - be it poetic reflection of space which is modelled on a phenomenon from real, "topical" world, be it (completely) imaginary description of space. Methodology of this dissertation is based on the concept of cultural memory by Aleida Assmann, particularly as presented in her book Cultural Memory and Western Civilization. Functions, Media, Archives. Individual chapters of the dissertation deal with interpretations of following poetic works: "Návrat" by Vladimír Holan is a poetic story that develops the topos of coming back - coming back home, to a space that the lyrical narrator enters after twenty years in order to look for his mother's grave in local graveyard; he fails. A verse book Dům Strach by Jan...
From Metafiction to Self-reflexive Narration ( Theory and Praxtice of Self-disclosing Fiction in Czech Literature)
Trpka, Vladimír ; Trávníček, Jiří (advisor) ; Češka, Jakub (referee) ; Kubíček, Tomáš (referee)
From Metafiction to Self-reflexive Narration (Theory and Practice of Self-disclosing Fiction in Czech Literature) Mgr. Vladimír Trpka Abstract The doctoral thesis deals with metafiction as a key theoretical concept influencing both theoretical contemplations on self-reflexivity in narrative fiction and interpretation of the development of self-reflexive practice in literature. The main objective, based on an analysis of the most influential theoretical approaches to narrative self-reflexivity, is to propose such concepts of metafiction and self-reflexive narration that could be applied in the analysis of the self-reflexive practice in the Czech narrative fiction. The theoretical part focuses on examining the relationship between metafiction and narrative self- reflexivity. Metafiction is viewed as a concept that has not only replaced the concept of self-conscious novel, but it has also adapted it to the postmodern conception of fiction. The concept of fictionality in the theoretical concept of metafiction is directly related to postmodern discourse in which this concept was born. Consequently, an explicitly formulated and/or hidden relationship with constructivist philosophy of language, performativity, and linguistic nature of reality is found in the existing approaches to metafiction. Thus if the...

Karel Krejčí's Comparative Approaches in his Understanding of Czech and Polish Literature
Matějková, Veronika ; Janoušek, Pavel (advisor) ; Svatoň, Vladimír (referee) ; Trávníček, Jiří (referee)
The thesis documents and interprets the conflict between the literary discourses of the time on the one hand, and the specific approach of Karel Krejčí (1904-1979), comparatist, Slavist and Czech studies scholar, on the other hand. Based on the Krejčí's studies on literary history and comparative literature, as well as his participation in the methodological debates of his time, the thesis analyses the impact of this conflict on the author's literary theory method, and his work of a literary historian and comparatist in general. The analysis is based on the ambiguous reception of Krejčí's scientific work: while he is recognised as a great personality in the field of Slavic studies, he is considered an outsider in the general context of Czech literary science. The thesis describes how the author, with his methodological approach, was in opposition to the prevailing trend. As a Slavic studies scholar he criticised the 'influence science' and positivist methods employed in the field. In the period between the two world wars he inclined towards the sociology of literature, although this discipline did not become popular. While he was interested in phenomenology and formalism, he defended his 'historical-sociological' approach against structuralism, which was gaining ground. In the 1950s Krejčí wrote a...
The Reader in the 16th centruy in the czech lands
Pišna, Jan ; Trávníček, Jiří (advisor) ; Voit, Petr (referee)
The work is a contribution to the research on contemporary reader of the 16th century in the Czech lands. On the basis of available materials, retrospective bibliography and existing research in comparison with foreign research and theoretical approaches to the matter of historical reader it deals with book culture with the focus on the reader (expansion of book print, censorship, changes of various parts of books, obtaining books and their placement in libraries, reading equipment), ways and character of reading (teaching reading, silent reading and reading aloud, reading out, repetitive, selective and extensive reading), with analysis of contemporary book production (religious literature, amusing reading, school literature) and contemporary canon of religious and school texts. On the basis of this knowledge, in the conclusion, we attempt to show the ways for future research on getting to know a contemporary reader, we are drawing attention especially to the absence of basic research on book culture. Discursive typology of characters and the contemporary Czech novel
Kudlová, Klára ; Bílek, Petr (advisor) ; Trávníček, Jiří (referee) ; Holý, Jiří (referee)
The primary aim of the present work was to design a typology of the novel characters based on the distinctive features of the genre itself. For this purpose, a close analysis of the characteristics of the genre was performed, concentrating especially on the attributes of the discourse in novel. The possibility to model the discourse on the base of symbolic and temporal principles provided the fundament for distinguishing three elementary "horizons" of characters in the discourse, thus creating a simple discursive typology. The suggested discursive typology allows viewing the characters as a complex set. Moreover, it opens way to the description of their relations and interaction (or their "constellations"). Finally, it helps to indicate their function and role with regard to the world of the novel as such. The secondary aim of the dissertation was examining the possibility of actual application of the suggested typology. This was carried out by concrete interpretation of contemporary Czech novels related by four discursive concepts. The concrete concepts were the hypothesis of "the new coming transcendentalism" within contemporary culture, authored by Zdeněk Mathauser, an autonomous concept of "the female novel", the notion of "stream of existentialist phenomena" present in the 20th century Czech...
