Contemporary Music Clubs in Prague

Author's precis The aim of this bachelor thesis is to survey the history and current situation of Prague music clubs and research the clubs in the Smíchov and Žižkov districts. The reader will be offered overall information about the location, interior, genre polarization and shortly described history of the clubs. We will also try to recognize the common and different signs of the clubs in the two districts. We will deal with the origin and history of the clubs and their development from broadside ballads and vaudevilles over musical chambers and cabarets of the old Prague to the music clubs of our times, since this information is also relevant to the topic. In the first part of the thesis we will deal with the definition of a music club and the history of these socio-cultural institutions in Prague. After the era of professionally composed broadside ballads and vaudevilles, their first real analogies seem to be Prague musical chambers and cabarets. Through the both wars and socialist era, we will get to the postrevolutionary Prague. In the second part, the practical research in the Prague music clubs is decribed. Education trail in the Hvězda area (Prague)

This bachelor thesis deals with the characteristic of the locality "Obora Hvězda" in the city of Prague. In the first part current knowledge of the geology and history of the locality is summarized and its biological features described. This part is completed with the author"s original photographs from the field and from the palaeontological collections of the National Muzeum. The work is aimed namely on public who could use it to expand their knowledge on the proposed educational natural trail for children. This new trail is dealt with in the concluding part of the submitted thesis; it is assumed to replace the current one which does not capture children"s interest adequately due to it being too long and accompanied with rather complicated verbal descriptions. The thesis includes two newly elaborated information boards as an example of the rationale of the new trail project. The emphasis is on graphical presentation using brief texts conveying the important message as well as illustrations and photographs.
Barbers and surgeons of Prague in early modern times

This bachelor's thesis, entitled Barbers and surgeons of Prague in early modern times pursues medical and health professions of Prague in early modern times. It's focused on the end of the seventies of 15 th. century till the enf of 17 th. century. It deals with the main development of these professions and with the separation of barbers and surgeons. One chapter is about bathhouses in this time because it is a workplace of these professions. There also chapters including sources and literature, which were used for this bachelor's thesis. In one chapter is summed up development of the organization of guilds. Next part is dedicated to bathhouses and contain main information about their form at that time. Basics of this bachelor's thesis are chapter including single professions, which were chosen for this thesis. They are focused on the beginnings, development and final form of these medical and health professions. Except of the main profession are mentioned another professions of this kind, which are joined with barbers and surgeons. In the end of this thesis is summary of the whole work and supplements. Aim of this bachelor's thesis is give information about medical and health proffesions, their progress, common beginnings and final separation.
From the bottom of a Czech society

The present work is based on the works of several authors, for which Prague wasone of the main themes of the work. The baseline texts as the work of E. E. Kisch, K. L. Kukla, R. J. Kronbauer and J. E. Šlechta. The work focuses on the literary depiction of life at the bottom of Czech society in the late 19th and early 20th century. Since this is avast topic, I decided to focus attention on two important thematic areas that played in the literature of the period an important role. The first part focuses on the phenomenon of the pub and people associated with it. It tries to point out the stereotyping display space and the appearance of these. Further notes the diversity of characters that fill this environment. It follows the features of both groups, but also the diversity of their rendition of the individual authors. The second section focuses on the work of the Prague underground. Pays attention to both its appearance, but also various ways of its use by humans and changes in the underground at a later time. The final chapter presents a brief look at the grip of this theme in film and theater.
Josip Plečnik and his projects for Prague

This thesis deals with Josip Plecnik's unrealized urban projects for the surroundings of the Prague Castle, which should have become a part of the emerging regulatory plans of Prague. The text, besides the description of these remarkable ideas, aims to shed light on the debates about the Prague urban development, especially about those concerning areas around the Prague Castle. Basically, the work has two main protagonists, Plečnik and Prague, whose fates are connected and affect each other. The text is divided into three parts. The introductory chapter presents the situation in the field of urbanism in Prague during the establishment of independent Czechoslovakia. The first part also describes Josip Plecnik, his personality, architectural training and arrival to Prague. The second chapter deals with the urban projects of the Slovenian architect for the Prague Castle surroundings, while trying to describe the background debates about the urban visions for Prague. The third part is an epilogue describing the Prague urban interventions, which were eventually carried out and Plecnik's ideas that came into realization in his native Ljubljana. The Church of St. Cyril and Method in Prague-Karlín

This bachelor thesis is presenting The Church of St. Cyril and Method in Prague- -Karlín. The historical and urban development of Karlín is depicted in the introductory chapter, including ambitions of the community for its own church administration. Following parts of the thesis are dedicated to architectural projects for the church and to the progress of the construction, which is framed on the basis of a few significant events. The decoration of the church, which is divided into two periods, is also a part of this thesis. Especially painting and sculptural realizations are included. Applied art is included only marginally. Important sources to compile this thesis were The Chronicle of Karlín and its parish church, The Records of The Union for the decoration of the church of St. Cyril and Method in Prague-Karlín and architectural projects. Recent restoration of the church is the main theme of this publication: Karlín. Chrám sv. Cyrila a Metoděje v Praze-Karlíně, Kostelní Vydří 2007 and also because of that the restoration is not one of the themes of this thesis.
The Type of Publicly-Active Family of Prague City-Dwellers at The Turn of 19th and 20th Century. The Case of John and Ann Podlipný.

The thesis intends to show, using the specific example of Jan and Anna Podlipný, a typical Prague family active in public life on the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Both the public activities and the private lives of the married couple are described. The thesis introduces the family of both Podlipnýs, particular focus being on the free time activities of the family members; home theatre is of special importance in this context. The core of the thesis is a discussion of the public activities of Jan and Anna Podlipný. Public life of Jan Podlipný is divided in his work for the Prague administration and in various interest groups. Emphasis is placed on years 1897-1900 when he was the mayor of Prague; the thesis also partially discusses his work as a lawyer and a member of the Young Czech Party. Podlipný is also introduced as a member of the Sokol union, the first head of the Czech Sokol Community and a member of the Society for the Construction of a Monument of Master Jan Hus. Podlipný's efforts in the cooperation between Sokol and the Union of French Gymnasts are also mentioned, and briefly also the other organisations he was active in. Anna Podlipná is introduced primarily as a wife and a mother. Emphasis is placed on her activities in the Domácnosť (Household) and České srdce (Czech Heart)...
German Testaments of Prague (1795-1815). On the Research on the History of German Language in Bohemia.

The aim of this thesis is to analyse Prague's Testaments from 1795 to 1815. The wills,which are in the period 1795-1815, represent a unique source of knowledge not only for linguists but also for modern historians who are interested of everyday life around the turn of the century.The first part describes the everyday history of Prague at the turn of the 18th and 19th Century in terms treated in the wills. In the following chapter, the type of Text is presented and described in more details.The researcher uses the relevant information from Pavel Trost's and Libuše Spáčilová's studies.In the next chapter, the source corpus and the criteria for selection are outlined.Next,the contents of the individual texts are combined to determine the processing linguistic material. The copies of the originals are added in appendices. The text was transliterated consistently. The work focuses on the following section, where the actual structural analysis of the texts are carried out. The researcher concentrates on some important features that are performed in the fifth part of the work (Chapter 5) and in the analysis of the wills. Bohumil Hrabal's Libeň

In my diploma thesis, I looked at part of Prague 8 - Libeň, in the kontext of the life and work of writer Bohumil Hrabal. I tried to show Libeň in the twentieth century, when the famous writer lived there. At first I made efforts to describe Bohumil Hrabal's life and Libeň, how we can find it in his books. Than I outlined the history of Libeň. In the main part I tried to show real locations in Libeň, which Bohumil Hrabal visited and he liked them. It was mainly Libeň castle, a lot of views of hills in Libeň, the vicinity of Vltava river and Rokytka brook and atmosphere of pubs in Libeň. The diploma thesis shows Libeň in last century especially in the kontext of Hrabal's trialogy Weddings in the house.
