Kotasová, Eva ; Marková, Alena (advisor) ; Dudová, Radka (referee)
The present thesis deals with the media image of women's everyday life in the socialist era. It focuses on the period of time between 1970 and 1975, i.e. on the so called early normalization. The aim of the study is to find out in what way the everyday life of the given period is interpreted by the magazine Vlasta. The main value of the analysis is that it reveals the idealistic presentation of the socialist women's way of life, and their common problems and worries. The analysis of the articles we perform is focused on family and home care, child upbringing both at home and in institutions, man's role in the family, physical and mental health, cosmetics, fashion, etc., i.e. all the aspects belonging to and forming everyday life. Through these topics, which are popular among women, the magazine discreetly created the ideal of the socialist woman. In the messages concerned with everyday life it was passing on the values, stereotypes and even ideological principles of the socialist society of that time. The main aim of the analysis is to create a complex picture of this everyday practice in Vlasta magazine. Key words Everyday life, woman, socialisms, normalization, Vlasta magazine, family care, home care, child care
Mýtus hebrejského moře: jeden s aspektů sionismu Zeeva Žabotinského
Coman, Adam ; Marková, Alena (advisor) ; Barša, Pavel (referee) ; Wein, Martin (referee)
The following dissertation studies the idea and mythologization of the "Hebrew Sea" in the writings and political activity of Vladimir (Ze'ev) Jabotinsky. Jabotinsky (1880-1940), the leader of the Zionist Revisionist movement, developed the concept of the "Hebrew Sea" as an ideal that was used in various fields of his Zionist activity. Within inter-Zionist politics it was utilized as a means of competing with the dominant ideological faction, labor Zionism, over contribution to the national revival and Zionist youth, and its greatest achievement was the establishment of the Civitavecchia Naval Academy in Italy. On the international-diplomatic level the "Hebrew Sea" was used in order to advance closer political relations between Revisionism and Italy - an endeavor Jabotinsky was interested in from an early stage of his Zionist career. The "Hebrew Sea" also played an important role in the development of Jabotinsky's unique ideal of national identity, which sought to depict the Jewish people as a Mediterranean, and not a desert or Middle Eastern people. This vision drew from contemporary theories about Hebrew identity, which associated the Hebrews with the Phoenician empire and not necessarily with Jewish monotheism. Finally, economically this ideal supported the socioeconomic vision of Revisionism,...
"Belarussization Episode" in the Process of Formation of the Belarussian Nation
Marková, Alena ; Hroch, Miroslav (advisor) ; Pullmann, Michal (referee) ; Veber, Václav (referee)
Doctoral Thesis Summary "The Belarusization Episode" in the Process of Formation of the Belarusian Nation Alena Marková The subject of this study is the phenomenon of the so-called Belarusization in the territory of the Belarusian Soviet Socialistic Republic in the 1920s. The Belarusization is a unique historical process, which was a local Belarusian equivalent of the policy sanctioned by the all-union communist government promoting national culture of the local nations (of the national languages and others) and of the policy of "indigenization" (korenizace), i. e. installment of ethnically "local" staff in the bureaus of the non-Russian republics of the Soviet Union. This study analyzes the reasoning standing behind the initiation of the Belarusization policy; the execution of this policy was supposed to strengthen the insecure stability of the newly established soviet government and soviet state, and this even at the price of a number of compromises (meaning de facto the support of a growing national movement) toward the respective republics and national intelligentsia, which played a most significant role in the Belarusian conditions. Hence the study pays major attention to the role and status of the Belarusian intelligentsia, who, even though for the most part they weren't in the Communist party, were...

Chuprasova, Daria ; Marková, Alena (advisor) ; Coman, Adam (referee)
Daria Chuprasova Historical Memory of the First World War in Russia in 2014-2018 Abstract The historical memory of the First World War in Russia was formed under the influence of the Soviet policy of memory. The loss in the war, the collapse of the Russian Empire, the Civil War, the Great Patriotic War led to the fact that the First World War in Russia was called "forgotten" for a long time. In 2014-2018, the whole world celebrated the anniversary of the First World War. The Russian government began to bring the memory of the war back into public discourse, shaping new heroic narratives. Most of the events in 2014-2018 were held in areas close to traditional ones for working with memory: in museums, at exhibitions, in heritage (monuments, memorial plaques). Less attention was paid to war in the broader media space. The most notable non-traditional events include the military-historical festival Times and Epochs and several films related to the First World War, which were filmed during the jubilee years. The results of public opinion polls conducted in 2014 and 2018 show that these events had had a rather low memorial effect. In general, the knowledge of Russians about the First World War remained the same as before the anniversary years.
