This doctoral dissertation's topic is mourning in people with intellectual disabilities who have lost a loved one. The research focuses mainly on the loss of parents, but also includes the loss of other people, such as grandparents. By loss we mean death, but the results of the work can also be used for losses of a different nature. The aim of this work is to understand grief in people with intellectual disabilities and to suggest appropriate ways to support their grieving process, with emphasis on grief support groups. As part of the research, we set up and implemented 2 support groups for grieving people with intellectual disabilities, each lasting at least 2 months and meeting once a week. At the very beginning of our research, we carried out one support group of the same length as a pilot study. The pilot study was first evaluated and the proposal of the support group according to the original foreign script was modified to better meet the needs of Czech citizens with intellectual disabilities. After the pilot study, we enriched the research with a questionnaire test of our own design, capturing a possible change in process of mourning in people involved in our support groups. We presented the questionnaire test to the participants before the start of the support groups and immediately after...

That's why it is important to focus on the interpretation of communication. On the one hand this doctoral thesis discusses the theoretical issues related to communication of people with severe and profound intellectual disabilities and its interpretation, but on the second hand it focuses on identifying and describing relevant communication characteristics based on practical qualitative research at special pedagogical center for mentally handicapped people in Rüdesheim am Rhein in Germany. The validity of the interpretation is rather continuous as a categorical variable and has to be supported by the systematic collection of evidences from different sources. This framework is compatible with the social constructivists' view of communication development and allows combining information derived from subjective, intuitive views with information obtained through observation and testing. Key words Communication, profound intellectual disabilities, development, relationship, verbal...

Dissertation Abstract TITLE: Identification and development of talent in preschool and school-age AUTHOR: Iva Klugová DEPARTMENT: Department of Special Education SUPERVISOR: Doc. PaedDr. Petr Franiok, CSc. ABSTRACT: We tried in our research to establish certain criteria that improve the quality of primary identification process in nursery and elementary schools. It is a very extensive proposal that requires cooperation of all school subjects, parents, clinical psychologists, etc. For this reason, several different perspectives were used in the research section of this dissertation. One of them was a questionnaire survey for teachers and parents in a nursery and a primary school in the Moravian-Silesian Region. This questionnaire survey showed a high informative value and after a successful pilot verification it can be considered an appropriate identification tool that can be used by special education teachers to identify giftedness directly in schools. As to direct identification tools in the realm of logical and analytical capabilities, we focused on testing with Raven's matrices. Because exceptionally gifted pupils in the Czech Republic have been legally supported only since 2005 (when the Education Act No. 561/2005 came into effect), there are no tests for identifying giftedness available to special...
