Narrative in Computer Games
Musilová, Monika ; Walek, Agata (oponent) ; Ellederová, Eva (vedoucí práce)
This Bachelor’s thesis deals with an issue of a narrative in computer games. In the introductory chapters, general games specifications, such as rules and genres of the games, are formulated. The main focus is then on linear and interactive forms of the narrative and on the means they are most frequently represented by. The practical part of the thesis is devoted to the analysis of two selected games, focusing on the narrative means used and on the way they influence the game’s linearity and interactivity. For each game, a storyline scheme is created on whose basis a narrative structure of the game is determined.

This bachelor’s thesis compares two most popular operating systems in a modern smartphone age. iOS and Android are well known for their rivalry. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to provide a detailed analysis of these two operating systems and to discuss their advantages and disadvantages. The first part of this work frames the concept of mobile/smartphone operating systems and traces the historical development of the smartphone operating systems. Afterwards, it moves on to the history of Apple and Google systems and compares their origin, features, user-interface, hardware requirements, application development and, in general, their way to become the most stable and popular smartphone systems in the world. The second part of this work is focused on analysing survey results. The goal of the survey was to compare preferences of Android and iOS users.
Energy transition
Svatoš, Jan ; Ellederová, Eva (oponent) ; Smutný, Milan (vedoucí práce)
This thesis deals with energy transition and its environmental, economic, social, and political impacts. The objective was to present the current state of the energy system and examine the reasons for its ongoing change. The thesis is divided into four parts - Types and Uses of Energy, Energy and the Environment, Economic Aspects of Energy Transition and Energy Politics. The first chapter classifies energy source types and renewable energy. The second chapter stresses environmental problems arising from energy production. The third chapter focuses on the economic and socio-economic aspects of the energy transition and the last part analyzes important energy markets and describes their cooperation. Each chapter is based on the review of diverse scientific and popular scientific literature.
Malware: Behaviour, Detection and Prevention
Langer, Jakub ; Šedrlová, Magdalena (oponent) ; Ellederová, Eva (vedoucí práce)
This bachelor’s thesis deals with a form of cybercrime that takes advantage of malicious software, also called malware. It outlines the basics of computer security threats, explaining relevant terms and concepts. Next, the thesis progresses through the most common and dangerous types of malware, describing each of them while also incorporating information such as how the particular type of malware has affected the world. Then, it focuses on the fundamentals of malware detection and outlines how users can protect themselves through prevention techniques. The thesis aims to create a manual that ordinary computer users could use to protect themselves from different types of malware.
Nuclear Power Plants Design and Safety: A Case Study of the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant
Marečková, Kristýna ; Baumgartnerová, Alena (oponent) ; Ellederová, Eva (vedoucí práce)
The bachelor’s thesis is a case study of the Temelín nuclear power plant. It aims to describe the design, operating principle, and safety measures of the Temelín nuclear power plant, compare the design and safety measures of selected nuclear power plants in and outside the Czech Republic and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the Temelín nuclear power plant compared with other selected nuclear power plants. The thesis is based on a literature review of different sources to ensure its maximum validity. The sources included scholarly books, articles, brochures, online lectures, virtual tours, and internal learning materials. It can be concluded that the Temelín nuclear power plant is maintained at a high safety standard by the State Office for Nuclear Safety and its operators. Although the design has many advantages, there are some minor disadvantages that, however, do not have any significant influence on the nuclear power plant safety.
Design of Educational Videos for the Study Programme English in Electrical Engineering and Informatics
Starykovska, Vladyslava ; Šťastná, Dagmar (oponent) ; Ellederová, Eva (vedoucí práce)
Nowadays, information technology is actively incorporated into education worldwide, especially after the global pandemic. Advances and innovations in educational technology, such as access to the Internet, multimedia technology, and handheld devices, have led to significant changes in the way people interact and learn. A growing tendency toward the use of technology and its integration into the school curriculum has gained crucial importance. In particular, the use of a video as an audio-visual material in foreign language lessons has grown rapidly because of the increasing emphasis on the communicative approach, and the use of a video is a great stimulus and facilitator for foreign language teachers. The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to discuss the importance of using a video in engineering lessons taught in a foreign language and try to define the distinctive features of a high-quality educational video. A literature review is used to identify and examine relevant theories and methods related to the concept of an educational video. The review reveals that educational videos have emerged as a critical part of higher education, and they provide an important tool for delivering content in many flipped, blended, and online classrooms. Videos increase student engagement, which in turn helps improve their learning outcomes. The use of videos stimulates the cognitive processes of thinking, reasoning, problem-solving, decision-making, and creating. Videos take the student beyond recall-and-relate activities. The practical part reveals the process of creating educational video material and focuses on designing a series of educational videos for selected electrical engineering and information technology subjects taught in English.
Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) in Engineering Courses at Brno University of Technology
Denysenko, Valeriia ; Langerová, Petra (oponent) ; Ellederová, Eva (vedoucí práce)
The bachelor’s thesis aims to frame the content and language integrated learning (CLIL) concept and analyse some factors influencing the successful implementation of CLIL in engineering courses at Brno University of Technology. The theoretical part of the thesis discusses the advantages of CLIL, explains Coyle, Hood and Marsh’s CLIL framework, and describes different pedagogical models and strategies used to integrate CLIL into a curriculum. It also provides a survey of selected CLIL research studies which has shown that the use of CLIL at universities has a significant influence on learning a content-based subject through the medium of a foreign language. The practical part of the thesis deals with research focusing on the current situation of CLIL in engineering courses in the study programme English in Electrical Engineering and Informatics at Brno University of Technology. The results of the questionnaire survey among teachers and students are discussed, and possible improvements in CLIL lessons are considered.
ESP Speaking Activities for Students of Information Technology
Pospíšil, Ondřej ; Smutný, Milan (oponent) ; Ellederová, Eva (vedoucí práce)
The term spoken language is used extensively to consult each vocally produced language and hand sign language. Spoken language production includes retrieval of information from memory, making plans for an articulatory program, executive control, and self-monitoring. These strategies can be associated with the domain names of long-term memory, motor control, and executive control. Spoken language production is logically divided into three fundamental steps: deciding what to express, determining how to express it, and expressing it. Although accomplishing conversational goals, structuring narratives, and modulating the ebb and flow of dialogue are inherently critical to know how people speak, psycholinguistic research of language production has mostly focused on the formulation of individual isolated utterances. Because of this, the evaluation of spoken classroom discourse performs an important role in providing vital insights into the complex nature of classroom structures, interactions, and relationships. This bachelor’s thesis shows how speech develops, what important principles from a grammatical and linguistic point of view must be followed, and lastly, it focuses on speech development considering that it is not a mother tongue. Speech activities must be developed in the right way, which is very important for a successful speaker. What an appropriate activity for the development of speaking should look like is described in the last chapter of the theoretical part of the bachelor’s thesis and in its practical part. The activities were designed with respect to the questionnaire distributed to 69 students of Brno University of Technology. The activities focus on the development of speaking skills in the information technology field of study.
