Comparative analysis of professional texts on computer science

Cílem této bakalářské práce je srovnávací analýza odborných textů z oblasti informatiky. Jako téma pro materiály byla zvolena technologie VxLAN, která je nejčastěji používána v datových centrech. Prvním textem pro analýzu je článek z webového časopisu, druhým je technická dokumentace Request for Comments (RFC), třetím je video přednáška. Hlavním cílem této práce je prozkoumat vybrané materiály z různých pohledů a určit, do jaké míry se texty, psané a mluvené, liší v použití jazyka a jaké jsou jejich společné rysy. K dosažení tohoto cíle jsou materiály zkoumány z hlediska několika diskurzních rysů, mezi které patří funkce jazyka, styl a žánr, koheze, koherence a deixe. Práce se také zaměřuje na zjištění, zda jsou analyzované materiály typickými představiteli svých žánrů a stylů.

Tato bakalářská práce analyzuje tři odborné texty z oblasti elektrotechniky. Prvním textem, který byl pro tuto analýzu zvolen, je vysokoškolská učebnice, druhým je populárně naučný vědecký článek a třetím technická přednáška. Všechny texty seznamují čtenáře s tématem operačních zesilovačů. Tato práce komentuje zmíněné žánry a jejich typické znaky, avšak jejím hlavním záměrem je analýza kohezních řetězců. Analyzována je jak gramatická a lexikální koheze, tak výskyt a užití klíčových výrazů v kohezních řetězcích. Všechny položky kohezních řetězců jsou vloženy do několika tabulek a je zjištěn procentuální výskyt jednotlivých kategorií. Vychází najevo, že v každém z vybraných textů lexikální koheze značně převažuje nad gramatickou, přičemž zajímavé rozdíly jsou dány srovnáním jednotlivých textů a kohezních prostředků v nich se vyskytujících.

"Some trees flourish, others die?": Opportunities and Problems of the Video game Canon

The paper attempts to enter current discussions related to the perception of video games as art. The thesis will focus primarily on the emergence of the video game canon, and will trace the evolution of this entertainment industry towards an increasingly institutionalised reception and evaluation of video games. This development will be examined both in academic context, with attention paid, for example, to the emergence of university departments and scholarly monographs on the history of video games. At the same time, the author will focus on non-academic strategies of value creation, such as the operation of the The Game Awards event, or the efforts to establish a normative genre-based system of video game creation and evaluation by game developers, journalists, and emerging critics. Methodologically, the thesis will draw on the theory of the canon of other arts, with particular attention to the development of the film canon as an example of the establishment of a new art and its institutionalization during the 20th century.

Potato Harvesting in Vysočina - radio reportage

This bachelor's thesis uses a radio reportage to show the process of harvesting potatoes on Josef Vlk's farm in Čelistná near Pelhřimov. In the first, theoretical part, the topic of reportage as a radio genre is mentioned with the addition of its past and present. One chapter will also focus on the basic orientation of the potato harvest. The second half is devoted to the methodology of making radio reportage. It explains the preparation, recording procedure and subsequent post-production.

Characteristic of ESP written communication

Cílem této bakalářské práce je definovat, co je to angličtina pro specifické účely, vymezit její styly a žánry. Tato práce je rozdělena do tří hlavních částí. V první části je stručně představen anglický jazyk pro specifické účely a jeho historie. Jsou zde přiblíženy styly tohoto jazyka a je vysvětleno jejich použití. Ve druhé části jsem definoval žánry tohoto jazyka, vysvětlil účel každého z nich a ukázal, jak se dále dělí. Ve třetí části jsou prezentovány části textů, jež jsou analyzovány a porovnány: dva texty z elektrotechniky a dva texty z medicíny. V obou oblastech je porovnáván úryvek z populárně vědeckého článku a učebnice. Analýza je provedena ve čtyřech kategoriích: koheze, deixe, signposting a hedge. Tyto výsledky jsou porovnány nejdříve ve stejném oboru mezi rozlišnými styly a následně mezi odlišnými obory – elektrotechnika a medicína. Všechny výsledky jsou komentovány.

The Prager musikalisches Album (1838) and the nineteenth-century salon as cultural practice

This article deals with a collection of songs and piano pieces, the Prager musikalisches Album, published in 1838, asking two central questions. Drawing on different concepts of the musical work (Werkbegriff), I explore whether the album can be considered a work rather than a loose collection of multiple works. Within the musicological discourse there have been many attempts at defining these terms, ranging from quite narrow categorisations based on aspects of instrumentation, musical form, or stylistic matters to more open approaches encompassing the communicative process and viewing the history of genre as cultural history. Drawing on the latter, I suggest that the Prager musikalisches Album is a prime example of collective authorship, which opens up a second question, namely that of authorship. Authorship may embrace aspects of agency that exceed the realms of the person who penned a musical, literary, or artistic work. Indeed, it may be shaped by performers, audiences, presses/ salespeople, dedicatees, critics, patrons, and anyone else who has an impact on any given work at the time of its creation and/or publicization. By taking this perspective, I suggest that the Prager musikalisches Album is both reflective and representative of nineteenth-century salon culture, within whose context the album was embedded. Offering a holistic analysis of the album and its context, I use this article as a springboard to advocate for a musical historiography that takes into account the full breadth of musical culture, and which embraces, besides composers and poets, a number of other cultural agents that are often overlooked within more traditional music-historical considerations.

Gender marking in job titles in French

The present paper on feminine allomorphs and allolexs in the French language provides a better understanding of the formation of feminine exponents in the domain of occupational names. In the first part of the text, we discuss theoretically the circumstances and conditions under which the need for feminization of occupational names arises and how the morphemic chain of the concrete feminine is constructed. We discuss the morphemic and morphological aspect, the historical context, the need for feminisation from a legal and political point of view, the jobs requiring feminisation and the factors influencing the choice of the process of formation of feminine lexis. We also consider the opinion of the French Academy and French dictionaries such as Le Larousse and Le Robert. In the same way, we include in the dissertation the modes of formation and representation of the feminine in the FLE textbooks. In the second part of the text, we dedicate ourselves to practical research in which we study the actual production of the use of the feminine of occupational names. This research, carried out with the help of the questionnaire method, gives us a real insight into practical usage, which helps us to get an overall picture of this relatively new grammatical phenomenon on such a large scale. The aim of this work is to open the question about the role and use of photography in the horror film. This work in the first step will outline the horror genre and will be shown in different kinds of art. In the second step, this work will focus on the horror film, where it will be listed its brief history, what attracts the spectator in horror film and characteristics of the horror film. In the third step, this work will be dealing with use of photography as an important element in the narration of film. Naturally will be mentioned stylistic use of photography when the photography works as a trick. Every use of the photography will be shown in examples of horror and non-horror films.

Selected Administrative Style Genres in Teaching Czech to Native Speakers of Russian at Secondary Schools

The dissertation focuses on teaching of so called advanced writing (in Czech) to secondary- school pupils who are native Russian speakers. We investigate the topic in the framework of a specific curriculum topic, i.e. administrative style genres. The aim of the dissertation is a) to identify the approach of teachers and that of Russian-speaking pupils towards this particular part of the curriculum, b) to assess the differences between texts of the chosen genres written by Czech pupils and pupils with Russian mother tongue, and, finally, c) to propose didactic solution for teaching the given administrative style genres to Russian-speaking pupils. We approach the topic with qualitative research methods. The practical part of the thesis consists of four parts. In the first one, on the basis of interviews, we analyse the teachers' approach, collect the evidence of critical places as well as examples of good practice. The second part looks closely at the Russian-speaking pupils' view. It has been discovered the pupils often cannot evaluate their language competences objectively, and generally, they lack metacognitive skills.
