Sign, symbol and allegory in Hawthorne's stories and The Scarlet Letter
Strouhalová, Slávka ; Procházka, Martin (advisor) ; Robbins, David Lee (referee)
In my thesis I will examine Nathaniel Hawthorne's stories The Minister's Black Veil and The Artist of the Beautiful as well as his famous romance The Scarlet Letter in terms of sign, symbol and allegory. I chose these particular works as typical representatives of Hawthorne's production. The Minister's Black Veil, first published in 1836, is an expression of Hawthorne's Puritan heritage recovery period, The Artist of the Beautiful, which came out in 1846 is an expression of his Romanticism and his dealings with Transcendentalism, while his major work, The Scarlet Letter, 1850, is a remarkable and complex blend of the two strains of his thinking and art. My thesis consists of four chapters. In the first chapter, named Sign, Symbol, and Allegory, I try to define what these terms mean, and to establish the difference between the first two, as some critics use the term sign and symbol interchangeably. I base my analysis on the Saussurian concept of sign, which will be outlined and contrasted with symbol. I will try to adumbrate the way in which reading of signs differs in the Puritan era and in the nineteenth century. I will characterize allegory and the patterns that enable us to recognize it, and I will mention how the understanding of what allegory is has changed in modern times. In the following three...

Properties of lipidic nanodispersion delivery systems 1
Pelikánová, Šárka ; Doležal, Pavel (advisor) ; Musilová, Marie (referee)
Characteristics of lipophilic nanodispersed application systems Abstract: The master thesis brings a survey of microemulsions characteristics, suitable penetration enhancers characteristics, criterions for choice of microemulsion components and compendious survey of DLS (dynamic light scattering). An experimental part is oriented to the temperature influence on the viscosity and consistency of seven samples of emulsion systems containing of unsaturated fatty acids (samples A to G). Depending on temperature, the consistency is practically invariable, the viscosity decreases with increasing of temperature. The samples are expressively different in their viscosity from 2,2 mm2 s-1 for emulsion G to 19,1 mm2 s-1 for emulsion D. The consistency of every tested samples is nearly the same, about ρ = 0,985 g.cm-3 . The sample B was more expressively different in the size of its particles, it contained particles greater than 300 nm. The other tested samples had majority portion of particles with the size bellow 100 nm and they can be considered as suitable for next biopharmaceutic evaluation in light of the size of its particles. The DLS method was used for pilot assessment of temperature stability of samples, tentatively it wasn't necessary to eliminate any sample because of its unstability.

The Suggestion Of Working Lists For Teaching Algebraic Terms With The Support Of A Computer For Pri- mary Schools
VOŠMIKOVÁ, Markéta
The assignment for this thesis is called {\crqq}The Suggestion Of Working Lists For Teaching Algebraic Terms With The Support Of A Computer For Pri- mary Schools{\crqq}. The thesis is divided into four main chapters. In the first chapter I was focused on the support of a computer at a primary school, and with the theoretical issues connected with this topic. In the second part I created a manual for teachers for the program I created. The third part consists of the program itself (A computer game called Mathhill for teaching the algebraic terms at primary schools). The program consists of four individual parts. The whole program is set as a winter scene from the mountains. A menu comes up first, which is the link to the other games. The pupils choose from the links according to what they want, or according to the matter being studied. All games are animated in the same way; the only difference is the subject and the assignments that the pupils solve. Pupils fulfil the individual assignments and according to the success of their results they continue up the mountain. If the result is wrong the program does not let them go further until they get it correct. With most of the assignments pupils can use the help in the upper right corner. One link in the program doesn{\crq}t fulfil a function of the game, this link differs from the others. This one directs us to an animation of algebraic formula, which leads us to a winter mountain chalet, the equipment of which directs us into the individual animation. The first part is a computer game called {\crqq}Repetition{\crqq}; the pupils re- peat operations with numerical terms and they freshen up on the word alge- braic expression. The second part is a computer game called {\crqq}Counting With Expressions{\crqq}; pupils count examples for simplification, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing of the expressions. The last game part is called {\crqq}Slashed Expressions{\crqq}, where the pupils work in the same way until they re- ach the top of the mountain. These games are divided; therefore the teachers can use them separately. The games are equipped with the help section in case the pupils need it. The last part of the program consists of the animation of the algebraic formula. In this part I animated the individual geometrical constructions of algebraic formula that children learn at primary school. The animation can serve to support the lessons. In the last part of my work I tested the CD at a primary school and I documented and evaluated the results.

The problems of condensation when translating from Russian into Czech
Ligay, Inga ; Hasil, Jiří (referee) ; Hošnová, Eva (advisor)
A graduation thesis discourses upon the definition of Condensation in Czech and Russian languages and means with the help of which this process may be accomplished. Condensation means that one communicational purpose is reached up by transformation of sentence, although formed elliptic expression loses dynamism that have had authentic sentence. Condensation contently quadrate with a sentence, but from the formal aspect we can hardly consider it to be a sentence, because it has no predicated verb. The aim of Condensation is to emplace more information into one sentence. Next chapter represents the chosen means of Condensation, exactly participles, because they seem to be the most interesting in the light of the topic of the graduation thesis. For better understanding of the material we show examples from Russian literature, strictly speaking from Mikhail Bulgakov and Viktor Shklovski, and its translations into Czech language. We look up the cases of Condensation in both of the texts, compare and find differences between them.

Czechoslovak national democratic party and František Hlaváček as a general secretary
Ulm, Karel ; Kuklík, Jan (referee) ; Čechurová, Jana (advisor)
Czechoslovak national democratic party was known for its strict suggestion to the German minority in Czechoslovakia and was keeping them. Famous became the sentence ofthe party chairman Karel Kramář: "Germans into the government, us into a revolution!" 1t was just the National democratic party that had entered in the government with Germans in 1927 ... The National democrats considered such nationalistst who felt a positiv relationship to their nation as to a community of people having a united history, language, culture and traditions. The nationalism of the National democrats was a relationship to a group of people, the patriotism was expressed by a positive relationship to the countryside. Nationalism of František Hlaváček, Karel Kramář, Viktor Dyk, František Sís, Vlastimil Klíma and others was a reaction to the German nationalism. A rightful endeavour before the German revanshism grew by some National democrats in a fobia of aH German. Still the National democratic nationalism ofFrantišek Hlaváček did not cross a border of shovinism in a sense to press and ocuppy others nations. According to the National democrats the nation should have been c10se and capable of defending against the enemies. It does not mean that there could not be partial interests of individuals and groups but those have to retreat...

On the Integration of Fixed Expressions and Idioms into German-Czech Dictionary and the Dictionary of Phraseology from the Contrastive and Language Corpora Perspectives.
Hejhalová, Věra ; Vachková, Marie (advisor) ; Petkevič, Vladimír (referee) ; Kaňovská, Michaela (referee)
The present thesis is concerned with the issues of phraseology against the background of lexicographical processing with the use of corpus based research. Using a comprehensive set of idiomatic expressions containing the names of animals, discrepancies and particularities of contemporary phraseographical descriptions are studied. The idiomatic expressions are subjected to the analyses within the German Corpus DeReKo and their Czech equivalents in the Czech Corpus ČNK. This is followed by critical evaluation of the existing lexicographical work in the selected dictionaries. The thesis aims to give a new insight into the issues of idiomatic expressions processing in the bilingual dictionary under the influence of new data gained from corpora based studies.

Pendrin in the pathogenesisof congenital hypothyroidism
Banghová, Karolína ; Lebl, Jan (advisor) ; Límanová, Zdeňka (referee) ; Houšťková, Hana (referee) ; Stárka, Luboslav (referee)
Pendrin is an anion transporter that is expressed in several organs. In the thyroid gland, pendrin is localized at the apical pole of thyrocytes and it is responsible for the iodide efflux from thyrocytes into the colloid in the follicular lumen where iodide is organificated. The extrathyroidal expression was shown in the inner ear, kidney, placenta and mammary gland. Carriers of mutations in the pendrin gene (PDS, SLC26A4) display variable phenotypical features following the autosomal recessive manner of the inheritance: combined thyroid and hearing affection (Pendred syndrome - OMIM274600), nonsyndromic autosomal recessive neurosensory deafness (DFNB4 - OMIM600791) or isolated enlarged vestibular aqueduct (EVA - OMIM603545). The thyroid affection is usually manifested as euthyroid or hypothyroid goitre in the second decade of life. In a minority of patients, dyshormonogenesis is present at birth, and the disease is diagnosed in the frame of the nation-wide neonatal screening for congenital hypothyroidism.

The alterations of MLL (mixed-lineage leukemia) gene and their clinical importance in pediatric patients with acute leukemia
Řezníčková, Leona ; Trka, Jan (advisor) ; Sedláček, Zdeněk (referee)
Presence of the MLL gene rearrangement at 11q23 is an important prognostic feature. Moreover, the rearrangements represent a suitable target for the minimal residual disease (MRD) monitoring in some subtypes of childhood acute leukaemias (AL). Currently more than 80 different translocations involving the MLL gene and more than 50 of those are characterised at the molecular leve\. Using multiplex-reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (multiplex RT -PCR) and - in some cases - its combination with DNA analysis of the translocation breakpoint we examined a group of infants «1 year of age) diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL), children with M4 and M5 subtypes of acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) and patients with secondary leukaemias. Moreover, we exaITŮned children with B-cell precursor fulfilling at least one of the ťollowing criteria: proB immunophenotype, cytogenetically confirmed MLL rearrangement and/or expression oťNG2 molecule shown by f10w cytometry. MultiplexRT PCR technique enables fast detection of the most frequent fusion partners of the :MLL gene (AF4, AF6, AF9, AFlO, ENL a ELL). We screened almost 80 patients diagnosed and treated in the Czech Republic between 1997 and 2007 and we found an MLL-fusion gene in 51 of them. Vast majority of rearrangements (92%) was detected by the...

The problems of the European integration at the turn of the 60s and 70s
Vojkůvková, Kateřina ; Kovář, Martin (referee) ; Horčička, Václav (advisor)
At the end of 1960s the European integration had been encountering a deep crisis. The state members of European Communities supported different ideas of future progres of the Communities, its form of cooperation or the areas of further integration. New iniciatives in European integration were the results of some changes both in international relations and in developpement of internal politics of member's states of EC. The new approach was expressed during the Hague conference, which was iniciated by new french President Georges Pompidou as a forum for searching of European problems resolution. The main priority for France was finishing financial questions of European common agriculture pohcy but the other countries preferred the entry of Great Britain into the Communities. Finally both of demands were satisfied and all the countries considered the Hague conference as successful resolution of the crisis of the end of sixties. As a part of results of The Hague conference the final statement accepted an agreement about a new cooperation in foreign pohcy questions. The result of negociations of ministres of foreign affaires was the Davignon report, w hich proposes regulary meetings of ministres of foreign affaires twice a year. The ministres should develop through common consultations the new European foreign...

After the disaster – the serialized pulp novel as a craft and an expression of internal dialogue. Morana or The world and its nothingness
Janoušek, Pavel
The author analyses the prose work Morana čili Svět a jeho nicoty (Morana or The World and its Nothingness) which Karel Sabina published in 1874 under the pseudonym Arian Želinský, as an expression of his personal, philosophical and above all literary reaction to the “national court”, which unmasked him as a police agent and turned him into an excommunicated “traitor to the nation”. The objective here is to establish the manner in which Sabina reflected his private fall from grace in his literary testimony, working inter alia with the flood motif, which was inspired by the disastrous floods of May 1872, i.e. the way he reflected his internal discord in the external form of a conventional serialized pulp novel with an aristocratic setting, with mordant dialogue between various life truths.
