French poetry and its Czech translations of the 1960's
Plačková, Anna ; Šotolová, Jovanka (referee) ; Belisová, Šárka (advisor)
This thesis, subtitled Boundaries of Poetry - Boundaries of Translation, examines the French poets who published their works in the post World War Two era. One of the aims has been to find out if these poets have been translated into Czech. The situation of the era seems to be a very special one: in the 1960's, more than 2000 poets published their poems in France; looking at Czech translation of French poetry, one may, however, get the impression that this was the era of only one French poet: Jacques Prévert. The term modern 101 poetry itself also need clarification, as it is very often associated with poets of the 19th century (e.g. Charles Baudelaire, Stéphane Mallarmé). The focus of this thesis lies on the 1960's, for several reasons: in terms of time, the decade lies quite close to present day; and yet, it still has the much desired distance, which allows for a more objective examination. The era is also special in terms of politics: the end of World War Two, the 1948 Communist Coup in Czechoslovakia, French colonial policy in Africa, and the socio-cultural upheaval and changes brought about by it, especially in 1968. Moreover, the conditions for the translation of Western literature into Czech were extremely favourable at that time - Stalin's death in 1953 was gradually followed by a period of détente,...

Johann Anton Quitainer's contribution to the sculptural decoration of the Strahov monastery in Prague. An examination of the relations between the late baroque sculptor and his patron
Hořák, Martin ; Hladík, Tomáš (referee) ; Horyna, Martin (advisor)
The subject of the diploma work is the creative contribution of Johann Anton Quitainer (1709-1765) to the Premonstratensian monastery in Strahov. The diploma work seeks to elucidate both the artistic character of Quitainer's Strahov undertaking, and the circumstances that led to it to being commissioned under the abbots Mariannus Hermann and Gabriel Václav Kaspar. The first part of the diploma worh is titled "The Artist" and is divided into three chapters. In the first chapter the author looks at the history of the Quitainer family and argues that this should be sought near the town of Mohelnice (Müglitz) in the north of Moravia. The second chapter outlines the most important works by J. A. Quitainer and his father Andreas Philipp. The third chapter places the work of the younger Quitainer in the context of contemporary Prague sculpture. The second part of the diploma work is entitled "The Patron" and comprises two chapters. The first describes the celebrations in 1727 marking the hundredth anniversary of the remains of Saint Norbet, the founder of the Premonstratensian Order, being brought to Prague. There then follows a description of the Monastery's history during the wars under the rule of the queen Maria Theresa, and the building's extensive destruction in 1742. The next chapter describes the origin of...

Social exclusion in Central-Bohemia region and Hradec Kralove region, its evolution, characteristics and possible models of social work in these areas

Remediation of former In-Situ uranium mining region.
Kříž, Jakub ; Kalous, Jaroslav (referee) ; Jícha, Jaroslav (advisor)
Remediation process of region, formally exploited for chemical leaching of uranium, is based on pumping water contaminated mostly by residuals of sulfuric acid from the relevant geological horizons. The contaminated water is then treated in a chemical plant. In the treatment process evaporators play the key role. Presently operating evaporators – three units – are of falling film type. Heating service is provided by compressed vapor that is generated by evaporators. For driving the compressors and associated circulating pumps of each unit electric power of 3,4 MW is required. In the evaporators treated solution is distributed into individual tubes by nozzles of cyclone type that are mounted at the top end of tubes. In the evaporators feed solution contains calcium sulfide of low concentration. Once the calcium sulfide concentration in the evaporating process reaches the state of saturation, even locally, fouling is initiated. Thus the solids start to grow on the inner surface of the tube wall and the nozzle’s openings become restricted. The evaporator performance – evaporating rate – gradually declines and when it reaches the bottom limit the evaporator has to be shut down. This is followed by carrying out the cleaning procedure. At the time when the evaporators started operating (1996) the period between shut downs lasted around a half a year. However, gradually, this period has become substantially shorter – presently it may even last one week only. The thesis proposes two ways of approaching the present hardly acceptable state. First, replacement of distributing nozzles by a set of properly perforated sieve trays secures the uniform distribution of solution into each individual tube. Second, evaporators’ duty will be taken over by newly build multi-flash concentrator that will substitute the presently operating evaporators. Configuration of this new equipment is derived from widely used multi-flash distillation of sea water. Heat required by the concentrator’s end heaters is drawn from a gas turbine exhaust gas. Steam provided by Heat Recovery Steam Generator is supplied to the condensing heat exchangers installed on the evaporator’s feed stream. Generator coupled to the gas turbine, fueled by natural gas, provides the electric power of 30 MW for export.

Process of transformation inside KSČ in the period 1987-1989

Film debut
Strejc, Daniel ; Kallista, Jaromír (advisor) ; Oukropec, Petr (referee) ; Borovan, Pavel (referee)
My Bachelor's thesis aims at the film debut as not only a separate structure, but also as a natural segment in developmnet of the author. As a segment, which symbolizes self-reliance and preparation for realizing author's own subjects. One of the directions should be the statistic overwiew of the debut films in past 20 years in the Czech cinema and the positioning to the other films. Other direction of my Bachelor's thesis should be the time reflection to the years, before the Velvet revolution, and the relation to the similar fields of industry and branches. As a subjective could seem the effort to set up the typology of the debut and estimate projection of future development. This metodology I take as helpful tool for the widest possible approach to my topic.
