Zmudová, Žaneta ; Musilová, Helena (advisor) ; Silverio, Robert (referee)
In my final bachelor paper I have focused on the work of the Finnish female photographers of the past fifteen years. They graduated at The University of Art and Design Helsinki during this period of time. The time determination is connected with the coming of Timothy Persons to the university. He helped his students a lot to present their work, mainly abroad. I chose the topic Women for closer determination of the contemporary Finnish photography, also from my own interest and I tried to make a survey of the work of Finnish female photographers who come from a different cultural background. This paper has been divided into several parts. It goes from the background introduction of the Helsinki School as the proof of the school success and present activities to the contentual and visual specific features of the Finnish female photographers and also main tendencies in their work including the photography presentation of the selected photographers.

The victimization of women by men - "hunters" and "consumers" - in Margaret Atwood's novels The Edible Woman and Surfacing
Skřivanová, Martina ; Kolinská, Klára (advisor) ; Jindra, Miroslav (referee)
The thesis deals with the early works of the Canadian writer Margaret Atwood - novels The Edible Woman (1969) and Surfacing (1972). The thesis focuses on victimization and objectification of the female characters through photography and consumption. The two topics are crucial for the two "body" chapters of the thesis. The first chapter deals with Susan Sontag's and Roland Barthes' theory of photography, and applies it to both novels. With the help of a camera, the man takes control over the woman. Similarly to a gun, it is a device with a release one can easily press to overpower its subject and turn it into a trophy - an object in its unalterable position one can manipulate with easily. Therefore, the thesis also explores the parallels between female and animal victims and hunting. Roland Barthes in his Camera Lucida (1980) analyses posing in front of the photographer. He is convinced that at the moment of picture taking the person waiting for the pull of the trigger transforms themselves into an object and thus loses their real self - with this version of the portrayed person, the photographer can manipulate according to his will. The gaze of the camera is unscrupulous and predatory; the thesis elaborates on it by the feminist theory of Laura Mulvey, who in her anthology Visual and Other...

Gnoseological aspects of Advertisement and Illustrative Photos in Regard to Male and Female Elements
Serbusová, Monika ; Vančát, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Hájek, Václav (referee)
The "Gnoseological aspects of advertisement and illustrative photo with regard to men and women elements" bachelor thesis deals with how certain groups of population perceive visual elements, concretely image advertisement and illustration photography. The research made for the needs of this thesis is based on the hypothesis that media can not only reflect the perception of gender roles, but also contribute to the making of their actual shape. The categories of conceptions that people use when describing visual elements can tell us something about the connection of media, human culture and society. Such a finding is in my view very well useable in a much wider than just gender context. The research took place among university students of bachelor program at Faculty of humanity studies, Charles University, with the aim of ascertain whether some differences between perception of women and men will come to light.
