Presentation of minorities in the textbooks of English language
MALÍKOVÁ, Jana
Annotation In my diploma thesis I deal with the presentation of women as a minority in English language textbooks. The theoretical part explains why it is a keep necessary to consider woman to be a minority in society. The theoretical part is divided in two parts. The first part examines gender as a general concept, focusing on substantiality and circumstances, that are important to the formation of gender identity. The second part explores gender is in the context of education and textbooks. The practical part concentrates on the research of gender representation in three kinds of the textbooks that are presently used for teaching English language. The aspects being researched are: the whole conception of the curriculum, and the portraying of man and woman through pictures, dialogues, language, occupational stereotyping and family.

Transport of Dangerous Substances in the Czech Republic
VANDAS, David
The topic of the diploma written assignment is "Transport of Dangerous Substances in the Czech Republic" and it was chosen for elaboration of the wholesome view on the road, train, ship and plane transportation of the hazardous materials and mixtures. These transportations represent a possible risk of damage to life, health, property or environment for the society. Hazardous materials and mixtures nowadays are being transported in large measures and there is an assumption in the future that the volume of the transported hazardous materials and mixtures will increase. For elaboration of this written assignment three hypothesis were given: a) Legal regulations of the European Union and the Czech Republic solve the problematic of the transportation of hazardous materials and mixtures well enough. b) The public has enough information about the transportation of the hazardous chemical substances or mixtures. c) People that work in the field of the transportation of hazardous materials or mixtures are well informed about the transportation of hazardous chemical substances or mixtures. For determining whether the legal regulations solve the problematic of the transportation of hazardous materials and mixtures well enough the literary sources which deal with this issue, legal regulations of the Czech Republic and the European Union and other international agreements were used. After working through these sources it was found out that the international, the EU and Czech legal regulations or agreements solve this issue well enough and emphasis is given on convergence of legal regulations of all transportations. Implementation of international agreements and legal regulations of the European Union into the legal regulations of the Czech Republic happens in the present time very fast and without failures. For figuring out the awareness of the public and awareness of the people working in the field of the transportation of hazardous materials and mixtures for the diploma written assignment on the topic of "The Transportation of Hazardous Materials and Mixtures on the Territory of the Czech Republic" there was a quantitative research made. The quantitative research was made with the help of handed out questionnaires. The public was represented by the employees of the Regional Municipalities of the Czech Republic. Both of the groups were given the same questionnaires. The results of the questionnaire research were evaluated, expressed in percentage and statistically assessed. For the statistical assessment the double selection T-test was used to find out whether the difference between the assessed groups is statistically important. People working in the transportation of hazardous substances and mixtures have sufficient information which was confirmed by the questionnaire research. By the made statistical assessment it was found out that the difference between the groups is statistically significant and so the public does not have sufficient information related to the transportation of hazardous substances and mixtures. Due to the results of the questionnaire research and mainly that the hypothesis b) - The public has enough information about the transportation of hazardous chemical substances or mixtures was not confirmed. In the conclusion of the written assignment there are a couple of suggestions for improvement of the awareness of the public. For example as a part of education at primary and high schools and training schools where this education is already running as a part of The Protection of Human during Incidents. This education has been going on since 2003. And that is why the older people in the public are not well met with this issue and they should be introduced to it by for example a media campaign by means of short TV spots on public television channels or by means of spots that already the Independent BESIP Department of the Ministry of Transportation makes up. These spots are called Besipky.

Towards the Methodological Foundation of Social Capital Theory. How (not) to Measure it in the Czech Republic.
Häuberer, Julia ; Jeřábek, Hynek (advisor) ; Hendl, Jan (referee) ; Rippl, Susanne (referee)
The field of social capital still lacks a recognized general theory. Accordingly, various and sometimes inappropriate measurements are used for it. The present monograph contributes to filling in this gap and provides progress towards the creation of a formalized social capital theory. Starting with the basic concepts of social capital of Bourdieu [1983] and Coleman [1988] we derive a general definition of social capital. Social capital is a property of relationships among individuals that are a resource actors can use and benefit from. Because neither Bourdieu's nor Coleman's concepts are appropriate as a general social capital theory the more current concepts of Putnam [2000], Burt [1992] and Lin [2001] are contested for this purpose. The discussions show that we can distinguish between cultural social capital (generalized trust, norms of reciprocity) and structural social capital (networks) and that we should focus on one of the two. Thus, we focus the latter but we take into account that cultural social capital is a preconditions as well as an outcome of structural social capital. Structural social capital is further influenced by collective assets (economy and historical or technological background) and individual characteristics (gender, age or ethnicity). Access to structural social capital or social...

Sports reporting in the countrywide and regional daily paper
Kaufnerová, Jana ; Halada, Jan (advisor) ; Lukšů, David (referee)
The aim of this thesis is the comparison of sport reporting in the countrywide daily Sport and regional dailies Tachovsky and Breclavsky denik. This comparison is under two ways: the first one is a content analysis of these three dailies in a time period of fourteen days, the second one involves the comparison of work of sport journalists in a countrywide daily and regional daily. A content analysis of the sport pages enabled a comparison of dailies among themselves in categories such as number and structure of units, gender of all the units, photos and newspaper's front page, dependence the unit on its time categorization, source of the units, representation of each sport, the sport level of sport represented in units, the structure of sponsors, who are connected with units and so on. This content analysis together with the other theoretical parts of thesis gives an informational background for the qualitative analysis of the variance at sport journalist work in each daily mentioned above. Research has shown that their work is different in many aspects, not only in the area of media routines, prestige, salary, membership in the departmental organizations, but in the relationship with their readers as well. Apparently working in regional journalism has its specifics and they are present at sport...

Kotábová, Lenka ; Goldmann, Petr (advisor) ; Viktorová, Ida (referee)
Main theme of this work is generation of coping strategies by the women with alcohol dependence. Author is highlighting mounting society tolerance to stress and to alcohol abuse and she also shows this two phenomenon in mutual context. By the women side of population author particular describe dependence and border of society norm. Main goal is to bring to light and explore maladaptive strategies, by women with alcohol dependence, which are varied from ordinary population and the reason of such a behavior. To solve this issue author chose two methods. Firstly she uses data from TAT projective test, secondly verbal self examination test SVF. Inquire group of women author compare with control group of women, who embody no alcohol problem. Better success is expected from control group, because normal population should have better coping strategies. From result of research ensue, that women with alcohol dependence embody worse coping strategies indeed. But this difference is not such as strong as was expected. In declarative test SVF alcohol dependent women overestimate their strategies in comparison to TAT. On the base of this fact author offers hypothesis, that it can be only proclamation in presentation of coping strategies. Women from control group anticipate their strategies more accurately.

The profitability of pension system and impact of its reforms on men and women
Šatava, Jiří
Based on a representative database of 7,000 men and women, we calculate the profitability of the pension system for men and women and its changes due to "small" and "large" reform. Profitability is measured using an indicator of pension wealth as the difference between the present value of future pensions and future contributions to the pension system. Profitability for individuals varies according to gender, age, income level and other factors.

"European Identity" of a Teacher
Gröschlová, Andrea ; Walterová, Eliška (advisor) ; Chvál, Martin (referee) ; Janík, Tomáš (referee)
This work attempts to identify and analyse factors that have an effect on the identification of teachers with Europe: "European identity" of a teacher is being argued. We widely discuss actual meaning of the term "Europe" and seek an empirical approach to the "European identity" research. Correctness of the "European identity" of a teacher is not put to test; actual issue of the teacher's profession is being discussed instead. The structure of this work consists of three chapters. First of all some basic assumptions for the work need to be posted: we discuss such terms as "globalisation", "knowledge society", "educational aims" and context of "European dimension of education". The second chapter presents three interrelated parts. They are focused on the meaning of theme "teacher as a subject of research", "identity as a subject of research" and "Europe as a subject of research" . We conclude with the own meaning of the "European identity" of a teacher in the end of the second chapter. Empirical approach throughout the rest of the work is based on this conclusion. The methodological approach is derived from the character of the postulated hypothesis. We compare two independent samples. Two samples being a) teachers (teachers of basic and secondary schools in Prague) and b) random population. Based on the...
