Vortex shedding from a bluff body is a classical problem for fluid mechanics. Since the time of Prof. Strouhal at the end of the 19th century, the phenomenon has been frequently studied. This contribution introduces (1) the historical context, (2) motivations and goals of the recent investigations, and (3) recent original results of research on the fluid dynamics and heat transfer of heated and cooled cylinders in the cross-flow, obtained mainly in the Institute of Thermomechanics.

Preaching Activities of Origen and John Chrysostom

This work would like to point out to the preaching activities of Origen and John Chrysostom. At first it approaches the Christian preaching in the first centuries, in general. It deals with the individual topics used for the word of preaching at that time, attempts to classify the sermons according to different categories and also mentions the way in which the sermons were preserved, touching upon the question of authorship. The work also analyses the problems of the preaching activities of the fathers. In addition it also offers parts dedicated to the origins of the preaching and the circumstances in which they were created or pronounced. The main topic of the work is the oeuvre of the authors Origen and John Chrisostom, as well as the context of their preaching activities. Gradually, the work addresses Origen and the translation of his eleventh sermon on Jeremiah and offers a study of this sermon. The work also attends to Chrisostom and his activities as a preacher, again including the translation of one of his sermons. It is the sixth sermon on the Book of Genesis and its further analysis. Sudetendeutsche Landsmannschaft in the 21st Century in the Czech Republic and Germany

The diploma thesis "Sudetendeutsche Landsmannschaft in the 21st century in the Czech republic and Germany" deals with the position and influence of this organization on present Czech-German relationship. In the theoretical part of this work there is described the creation, structure, aims and needs as well as present problems of Sudetendeutsche Landsmannschaft. Further in the text is the analysis of the position of this organization in the Czech Republic and in Germany. The cooperation of the representatives of Sudeten Germans with German political parties and the attitude of Czech and German governments towards this association is the main part of the second - 4 - chapter. The last chapter deals with the influence of Sudetendeutsche Landsmannschaft, especially of sudetendeutsche question, on the selected periods of Czech-German relationship. Strained elections in 2002 and complicated entry of the Czech Republic to the European Union which was caused by the attempts of the Sudetendeutschen representatives to violate the Beneš Desrees approved that Czech-German relationship on the government degree can be cooled under some circumstances. School Education in Germany

It is the aim of the doctoral thesis to bring new current issue to Czech comparative educational science while using a non-traditional methodological approach and to provide incentives for Czech educational policy. The thesis consists of two main parts: theoretical and methodological part, and research part. In the theoretical and methodological part the aim of the research and research problem are first defined, existing knowledge concerning the topic of thesis are then briefly evaluated, and the the theoretical and methodological bases of the research are presented. The most comprehensive chapter of this part views the presented research from the perspective of the theory on educational research. Obesity its causes and cosequences

Obesity is one of the most common health problems in the Word. Over 500 million adults and over 40 million children are obese. The aim of this work is to summarize findings of causes and consequences of this health problem. Even though in some cases only genetic mutations are responsible for obesity for example mutation in ob gene or Prader-Willi syndrome most cases are caused by lifestyle of people -excessive food intake and insufficient physical activity. There are many health problems accompanying obesity. The most serious problems are metabolic syndrome, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases and cancer. The consequences of obesity are, however, not confined only to health. We can also observe the economic consequences. Financial cost of treatment of obesity and related diseases are estimated in billions of dollars. Pharmacological treatment has so far proved to be ineffective. If drugs are effective, the side effects are so severe that their use is not possible. So far, the adipose tissue hormones that regulate food intake provide the best hope.

Community Aproach to the People with Mental Health Problems As Alternative to the Institucional Care

In the history the care of people with a mental health problems was going through a lot of changes. Most of the people were accepted as a part of a society. The family and a local community had been taken care of them. Only a small part of people with a mental health problems had been banished or kept in prison. With the beginning of a modern period the people with a mental illness have devoted and segregated in a large extent. The psychiatri and care for disordered people occured rapid developement in 20th century. In the 50's the psychiatric institution had been closing down in a many advanced countries. Institutional care was replaced with a out-patient and comunity care services. The main target of a community care is to help to the people with a mental illness so they can live in a naturally neighbourhood. The Great Britain has ranked among countries with a along tradition of community care. The broad range of services in the domain of living, employment and a leisure time arised here. The attitude to disordered people was also changed. In the Czech republic the community work set up to apply in 90's. Since the time the big progress was reached. A development of czechoslovak sugar industry in the twenties 20th century

The subject of my thesis is to analyze the difficult situation of the sugar industry in the twenties of the 20th century. The work focuses on post war reconstruction of the sugar industry through government intervention into this sector. A large part is devoted to the renewal after the First World War, to the effort to stabilize sugar industry; simultaneously the structure of newly founded institutions is analyzed, this part ends with the abolition of the Czechoslovak Sugar Commission. The next part focuses on problems of the sugar market in foreign trade; it chronologically analyzes crises, measures and international interactions. In addition, evaluation of economic results is included in every chapter. The last part is deals with the Long-term sugar cartel. Here the aim is to describe the progressive graduation of the increasingly difficult and complex measures.

Gothic Brickwork in Silesia - The Church of the Virgin Mary on Sand and St. Dorothy in Vratislav

The introduced bachelor's degree work takes up with the brick architecture in Silesia on the example of two chosen Wroclav monasterial churches from the 14th century. The churches of St. Mary on Sand and St. Dorothy church are typical examples of the hall churches so-called Silesia architecture school and part of the work is manifesting the reasons of it's classification to this group of buildings. This work is divided into four parts. The first part is considering the general historical introduction, history of Wroclav and it's topography to the 14th century. The second part is oriented on Virgin Mary's church on Sand, containing brief history of research, description and history of the building. On the third part is similarly desribed the church of St.Dorothy. The last discussion part is summarizing problems concerning the single buildings, the problemacy of vaults in concrete and the possibility of genesis of given vault types, the characterization of so-called Silesia architecture school and the position of these churches within this group, the questions of Mistr Pesek existence, etc. Keywords: Silesia Wrocław Gothic-style architecture hall church vault

Tax system in the Interwar Czechoslovakia

There is the explenation of tax system in Czechoslovakia during 20's and 30's in 20th century. This study is focused on transformation and consolidation of tax law which are connected with Czechoslovak's establishemenent. There is the characteristics of each point of tax structure, codification and specific problems. The second part of study answers on the question: "Why so huge reform of direct taxes was done in the late of 20's? What was the reason and consequence?" There is some information about Karel Engliš -- Minister of Finance. The analytic part of this study includes national budget, revenues and statistics about tax burden and taxation. The aim of this study is comparision of tax structure before and after the tax reform in 1927. There was made some international statistics, too.
