Effect of surface of semiconductor nanocrystals on their properties: investigation by laser spectroscopy

The topic of the diploma thesis is chemical treatment of the surfaces of semiconductor nanocrystals CdS and CdSe in the form of thin nanocrystalline films prepared by chemical bath deposition. The evolution of photoluminescence and absorption spectra was investigated under treatment by water, toluene, butylamine, pyridine and hydrogen peroxide. The strongest changes were observed by samples soaked in water, pyridine and aqueous solution of pyridine. The observed effects were explained by partly dissolving of nanocrystals by water and affecting behaviour of photoexcited holes in the presence of the strong hole acceptor pyridine. The second part of this diploma thesis deals with photochromic properties of silver nanoparticles in a titanium oxide matrix. The photochromic behaviour of the samples was examined in detail. A phenomenological model of photochromic changes was suggested in analogy with the hole burning spectroscopy. In order to better understand the microscopic processes in this composite material other experiments were realized - e.g. samples were UV irradiated, or laser illuminated under lowered air pressure, pump & probe experiment. Positive affectivity as an important part of well-being

This diploma thesis is in its theoretical part dealing with religious and philosophical concerns in relation to positive affectivity and subjective well-being. It offers a review of contemporary theories on this topic. In the practical part, it tests the relations of the constructs which have an infuence on personal well-being: positive affectivity, satisfation with life and life engagement. Positive affectivity is assessed with the life orientation test (LOT-R: Life Orientation Test-Revisited, Scheier, Carver, Bridges, 1994), personal well-being with the satisfaction-with-life scale (SWLS: Satisfaction With Life Scale, Pavot et al., 1991) and meaningful life engagement with the life engagement test (LET: Life Engagement Test- Assesing Purpose in Life, Scheier et al. 2006). The test sample consisted of 301 respondents of the common population. Their average age was 38 years, the national contents were 188 people of the Czech citizenship and 113 people of the Slovak citizenship. No correlation was found between positive affectivity and gender, age, education nor nationality. Further there was no correlation between satisfaction with life and citizenship, gender and age. Theory of the Affects (Baroque Doctrine of the Affections)

The theme of my dissertation is the Baroque Theory (Doctrine) of Affects, one of the main pillars of the Baroque perception of music and art. It is a theoretical system that is generally not only applied to the music of the Baroque era, but in many aspects as well for the following period of Rococo and Classicism until the Beethoven´s creative era. The Doctrine of affects is based upon the cohesion of human thinking and feeling on one hand and the natural order on the other hand. It has been derived from the concept od the world order being created as a perfectly functioning system including both the rational as well and irrational - as the two different aspects of human being. The thesis is based mainly on period sources and literature that served not as supplementary material but also as core resurces. Therefore translations of period documents up to now missing in the Czech musicological and aesthetic literature have been submitted because they are very important to for comprehending the essence of the Doctrine of affects and the period tendencies to allocate affects to musical devices. The texts represent the angle of the view, the inseparability of art and science as well as the Baroque concept of the human personality as a harmonic accord of the soul and body. All of this on the beel overlaid on the social situations and aesthetic perceptions of the time. Even today, one is surprised by the scope of detail to which period musicians and theoreticians had everything clarified, explained and documented from the historical, musicological and even physiological sources of the time. It is within this context that this thesis has been developed bringing to light not only an explanation of the notions of affects and the differences involved in their classification and systematization, but also their depiction by musical and rhetoric figures in the practices of composition and interpretation in which the impact of affects in music played its role for the audience then as well as today. Accordingly, the assortiment and assembly of the the audio exemples have become an integral part of this dissertation. As Jean-Philippe Rameau said, the truth of music and of the musical expression derives primarily from the music itself!

Domination of ethnic identity in post-Dayton Bosnia and Herzegovina

The given thesis examines the question of identity in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The country devastated by the war from the beginning of 90s, went through major social changes, which deeply affected contemporary situation in the country. Although, BiH has long history of being quite specific in its characteristics, contemporary state is more complicated than it was imagined by peace creators, volunteers and scholars of international community. Identity within the country is defined by the entity. Every out of three peoples, almost two decades from the war, strongly holds on their ethnic appurtenance. The thesis portrays pre-war cohabitation of three ethnic groups by so called "neighborhood phenomenology" , and by providing certain theoretical insight attempts to depict joined similarities and differences in one society. Public, namely media discourse is highly affected with hatred and discrimination among ethnic groups. Aiming to prove that, at least present it, the author used media discourse analysis of the central news programs of two public broadcasters. Results not only demonstrated discrimination, but provided closer insight in professionalism, or lack of it, and clearly portrayed politically infected program. THE AFFECTIVE DIMENSION OF CHRISTIAN LIFE AT TURN OF THE 20th AND 21st CENTURY ON THE BASIS OF DEVOTION TO THE HEART OF JESUS This work deals with devotione to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which finds the path to the personal integrity of a person. The first account of this work examines the historical development of the devotion, with particular attention to the revelation in Paray-le-Monial and the benefits of spirituality St. Margaret Mary Alacoque. Since this revelation particularly affected the understanding of devotione to the Heart of Jesus in recent centuries, it tried to relieve the workload, and helped to express in the language of current mentality. In new-reading Margaret leaning against the message of biblical and theological foundations, hopes to penetrate into the nature of the devotione mentioned, and thereby discovers secrets of the human heart. Among the numerous practical consequences of the proper feeling of devotione for the Sacred Heart of Jesus concludes, is also the answer to the question: How to restore 'spark' in the Christian life and not to fall into very gaudy sentimentalism. Stress and limbic iritability in depression and alcohol dependency Denisa Jasová Abstract Depressive disorders and alcohol dependency recently present epidemiologically most significant psychiatric disorders. According to current research both diseases are multifactorial, mainly represented by genetic and environmental conditions. Several recent research studies are mainly focused on social factors related to stress and traumatic events such as neglect, deprivation, verbal, emotional, physical and sexual abuse, bullying and others. Important feature of these pathological conditions present disbalance between excitatory and inhibitory systems. In this context in affective disorders as well as in alcohol dependency these inhibitory deficits are represented by increased sensitivity and excitability of the limbic system called limbic irritability. Several studies suggested that these pathological changes may be described using the kindling model that potentially may explain limbic changes similar to temporal lobe epilepsy which may produce affective, cognitive and psychosensory symptoms but without typical changes that occur in neurologically diagnosed epilepsy. What is an afect?

In this paper, we will focus on the topic of affect in order to rehabilitate the concept of affect from the mainstream concept in the Czech literature. We introduce affect as an essential component of affective processes, the basic structural unit not only for emotions and moods, but also for emotional episodes, atitudes, passions, beliedfs, and sentiments.
