Significance of visual informations and their interpretation for needs of subject analysis

Thesis focuses on the topic of visual informations, their interpretation and use in subject analysis. Work is structured in partial chapters, which are thematically linked to each other. First chapter is given to historical development of visual informations and visual culture. The second chapter is focused on field of interpretation, connotated and denotated messages and methods of interpretation. There is also analyzed question of existence of a single correct interpretation of visual informations. Next chapter deals with content analysis. In this chapter the emphasis is on objective and subjective information indexing and also on social tagging. In the last chapter are analyzed visual information in terms of fields here are these information used and in terms of media, which are used for expressing information. In this chapter is shown how to interpret visual information, to be understandable for their recipients [Author's abstract]
The relationship between picture and text in photojournalism

This essay deals with the ethics of news photographs, specifically the relationship between an image and a text. The theoretical part summarizes the relationship between a news image and a text in general and points out the ethically problematic areas associated with it. It focuses on human perception of an image and describes the principle called Gestalt, which defines the relationship between an image and a text. It deals with the criteria by which it is possible to determine the ethics of the relationship between an image and a text and explores this relationship in terms of language. Based on the theoretical part, the author examines how the principal of changing the meaning of pictures by a text, or vice versa, is used in news photos of Mladá fronta Dnes and Hospodářské noviny, in editions of March 2011. The author then applies a created theory based on the meanings of words to specific examples and describes the ethical shortcomings of the newspaper in this area.
Imagines in your Mind: iconographic and iconologic aspects of some themes of contemporary visual culture

The final work of the Bachelor degree titled Living in us deals with iconographic and iconological aspects of certain themes of contemporary visual culture. It focuses on Advertising which maps from the point of view of development and its facilities whilst ignoring the effects on the recipient. Terrain research endeavours to reach this via its eventual analysis. The work attempts to answer via questionnaire the question whether the adversing which we are surrounded by is linked to preconceptions of christian culture. The educational file of work is represented by an accompanying installation program of works by Adriena Simotova. The artistically applied theme rellies on the direct coherent phenomenon of 30 Advertising. The result is an advert on Christianity which I created in accordance with the results of the questionairre. These outlined ' today's person's' idea of paradise which became the motive for a completed advertising leaflet.

The thesis, entitled "What I like to watch?" is aimed at inquiry of preschool age children's visual preferences. Whole work purpose is to realize a didactical project in the kindergarden and find out preschool children's visual preferences through art activites and artefiletics. Parents' information are also very important contribution because it contains important facts about preschool children's visual preferences.
Visual culture and contemporary media in art education of preschool children with emphasis on advertisement

This thesis deals with visual culture and media (with emphasis on advertisement) in art lessons of preschool children. One part is formed by a questionnaire in which preschool children and their parents reply to questions concerning their perception and influence of advertisement relating to contemporary media. The aim of the research is to get children's basic knowledge, attitudes and projections about advertisement and also parents' opinions on how their children are influenced by advertisement. This research part pervades with didactical sets charting children's relation to advertisement and brings them to reflection. Results of this thesis point out possibilities of using elements in media education in connection with art activities in nursery schools. The Comparison of Picture Coverage in the Czech and Danish Newspaper

This diploma thesis called The Comparision of Picture Coverage in Czech and Danish Newspapers focuses on analysis of press photographs published in the daily newspapers Hospodářské noviny and Politiken during February 2011. The theoretical part deals with topics which are related to visual culture, photojournalism and possibilities of photograph analysis in print media. The research part of the thesis is focused on the picture analysis using a quantitative method and quantitative- qualitative approach which arise from the conception of visual grammar of Gunther Kress and Theo van Leeuwen. The picture analysis of 352 news photographs shows specifics and differences of the Czech and the Danish ways of publishing visual information on title and news coverage pages in newspapers.
Alphabets, contents and the time. Visual communication

The theme of the diploma dissertation became a view of a field of alphabets (letters and types) in contexts of communication, history, art and education. The theoretical part is focused on historical, contemporary movements of the phenomenon all at once. Inclusive of reflecting on alphabets in art and also links to a medial communication. The second part of the diploma dissertation reacts to the strongest and the most inspiring moments. It focuses on a practical applications for art lessons. The third part [artistic] takes advantage of media knowledges and art lessons. They are interfaced into an interactive teaching material which challenges students to an active perception of visual culture.
Public spaces of the city of Brno - theoretical work

Master´s thesis adresses the issue of public spaces of inner city of Brno. These spaces have good prerequisities to become attractive places for everyday use or for spending a good free time. These prerequsities include for example compact city structure, well defined public spaces, walking city distances, presence of public and commercial facilities and distinctive genius loci. But public spaces in these localities often do not fulfill their own potential and stay as average free space inbetween buildings. Thesis suggests a detailed system for categorisation of squares and streets in the inner city of Brno and examines the reasons for potential non-fulfillment on these typologies, it tries to find out the problems of public spaces and how they can be solved.
Gender and nation:The woman and the visual culture in the era of national emancipation

The article is focused on gender aspects of visual culture. National culture was articulated during the process of national emancipation in Bohemia in canonical artworks which were created by great national artists (men). It was also the time when women struggled for recognision as creative beings. This could be seen as democratic deficit of national culture. The aim of the new interpretation of Czech national canonical works of art is to used gender studies to denaturalised static understanding of national culture.
