Journalists' approach to representing female politicians in the media

The thesis focuses on gender aspects of the journalistic profession and their professional discourse. Specifically, it focuses on how people in the media approach representations of female politicians. Women in politics are gender stereotyped in the media, and they also tend to be portrayed differently and in different contexts compared to male politicians. This is manifested, for example, by the fact that people in the media pay more attention to the private lives of female politicians, focusing more on their physical appearance or their age. Therefore, the aim of this paper was to investigate how these different representations of women in politics may be contributed to by journalists themselves. As part of the research part, semi-structured interviews were conducted with eleven female and male journalists working in different Czech media. The collected data were analysed qualitatively using the grounded theory method. The research shows that journalists attach low importance to gender in political reporting. Therefore, the gender of female and male politicians does not influence the way they themselves are reported in the media. However, the results of the analysis suggest that they view society through the lens of a gender dichotomy and also think of female politicians in gender stereotyped...
Czechoslovak Ocean Shipping in memory of Czechoslovak sailors (1959-1989)

The main target of the work is to extend our current knowledge concerning history of the Czechoslovak Ocean Shipping company during the period from the company's founding in 1959 until year 1989. The main basis for this task fulfillment there are interviews with former Czechoslovak sailors realized with help of the oral history method. Beside this, the paper is supported also by archive materials. The text reflects certain specificity of the topic (maritime business running in the inland country, in addition country ruled by non-democratic regime) and it aims to the company's history; but its main part is concentrated on the sailors' living conditions. It processes direct testimonies about sailors' life and work on Czechoslovak ships; there are included topics as travelling, emigration, direct experience with communist regime on ships, private life of sailors, and their father and husband role. The author does not propose definite conclusions; her effort is aimed to see the topic from various points of view. Sailors are not portrayed as exceptional people but as men whose meaning of life was work on the sea. And this fact principally influenced their lives as well as lives of their families.

Evaluation and motivation of employees

The aim of this thesis is to analyze evaluation and motivation of employees in public and private sector, make comparison between these sectors and propose measures leading to elimination of deficiencies. At the beginning of this thesis there are described issues and the aims of this thesis. Theoretical part is focused on evaluation, motivation and remuneration of employees in both sectors including new knowledge from this area. Comparison of both sectors is done by questionnaire. It focuses on evaluation, motivation and fair remuneration by employer from employee point of view. Practical part consist of research results, verification of work hypothesis and based on findings propose possible actions to improve current situation. By research it was found that employees from private sector obtain formal evaluation much more often than in public sector. Most important motivation for job performance improvement is for employees from public sector work certainty, for private sector it is career progress. Results of this thesis gives proposals to employer for improvement.
Recruitment, selection and adaptation of employees (comparision of public and privat sector)

The aim of the dissertation is description and comparision of recruitment, selection and adaptation of employees. The theoretical part of the theses includes the perfect proceeding of the process. In the application part of the theses I describe the structure of organizations and the whole proces in the organizations. I discovered some deficiencies and I suggested the solution how to make the process better in both organizations.
