Marketing Strategies of Art Trade with a Focus on Contemporary Czech Art Scene
Peško Banzetová, Michaela ; Horáček, Radek (referee) ; Svoboda, František (referee) ; Rais, Karel (advisor)
Contemporary art trade in the Czech Republic has been regarded as a private area accessible only to a few insiders. So far no adequate literature about this field has existed, the marketing strategies used within it were, not only from the outside perspective, quite unclear. This work shows that it is not a secret sphere. On the contrary, it is a part of the market, which has the effect that the more you talk about it openly, the better impact it has on the whole society. The author presents the current situation in this field, its historical context, and openly discusses the long-term marketing strategies of gallerists who work with contemporary artists. On the basis of case studies from abroad she also shows other possible ways how to bring society closer to contemporary art by means of some specific marketing tools.

Creative centre - Koprivnice
Křížová, Lucie ; Zdvomka, Ondřej (referee) ; Marek, Jiří (advisor)
Right in the city center, there is a plot with old factory halls. These halls are fascinating and have great potential. But now, they are more of an obstacle. They form a barrier, they are in poor condition, and it robs the city of its values. In my diploma thesis entitled Creative Center in Kopřivnice, in addition to the design of the creative center, I will also deal with how to use the beauty and potential of these old halls, further, how to create beautiful and modernized buildings with a new value. I want to open the whole area, to create a place where people would like to meet and where various functions will be mixed- a place for fun, relaxation, culture, education or even just a shopping or walk. The work is very diverse - from the urban design of the entire plot, through the revitalization of old industrial halls and the layout of a new building, to the interior design of a new gallery.

Exhibition - VVČSKSU
Hověžáková, Ilona ; Janečková,, Zuzana (referee) ; Mazanec, Martin (advisor)
The objective of this thesis draws on my experience acquired during the internship in Galeria De Arte Servando in Havana, where I have been given the opportunity to learn about Cuban culture as well as to witness the restrictions and difficulties in gallery activities due to the communist government. The first part of the thesis focuses on historical facts highlighting the art exchange between Czechoslovakia and Cuba, a common part of running the state institution in the past. It was a common practice both in Havana´s House of Czechoslovak Culture and in the House of Cuban Culture in Prague. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, both houses were closed and the Czechoslovak-Cuban relations in art and culture have never been restored. The study subsequently discusses the concept and realization of the exhibition prepared in collaboration with Cuban curator Yenisel Osuna Morales. The aim of the thesis is to try to initiate a dialogue between two countries, Cuba and the Czech Republic (former Czechoslovakia), countries with many differences, and probably even estranged nowadays. However, their relations were warm before, and they could be in many ways an inspiration. The primary outcome of this thesis is the exhibition project aimed at the topic of censorship in independent art, its influence on gallery activities and freedom of artistic expression in Cuba. The selection of cuban artists carried out by curator Yenisel Osuna Morales represents the topic of pluriculturalism, migration and diaspora. By means of exhibition exchange, I would like to refer to the terminated friendship between Cuba and former Czechoslovakia in the field of art. The purpose of these exhibitions is not only to present Czech contemporary art in Cuba but also to present Cuban art in the Czech Republic without any restrictions.
Ambivalence of Identity: Cultural Traditions As a Theme in Contemporary Czech and Slovak Art
Maixner, Miroslav ; Klodová, Lenka (referee) ; Janečková,, Zuzana (referee) ; Zálešák, Jan (advisor)
The dissertation focuses on the phenomenon of a new presence of references to traditional folk culture in contemporary Czech and Slovak art. Emphasis is placed on the period from the year 2000 to the present. The core of the work consists of chapters devoted to artists who in this period significantly thematized various aspects of traditional folk culture, either as a partial element of specific projects or in the form of continuous interest in the field. The essence of this part is to show the breadth and heterogeneity of the examined manifestations across the media spectrum. The main purpose of the work is to analyze and place the researched phenomena in a relevant context within the theory and history of art. The reason is their different nature from thematically similar manifestations in the 19th and 20th centuries. In addition, when compared with current trends abroad, a number of connections are shown, such as links to environmental issues, criticism of the state of society and, above all, to new issues related to personal and collective identification. Therefore, I base the analysis of these phenomena on a hybrid interdisciplinary basis using theoretical approaches to identity in the social sciences and humanities. I do so in the introductory theoretical chapters, but the main focus is on the final analytical synthesis. To a large extent, it also builds on data obtained from interviews with artists, the transcripts of which the reader will find in the appendix. Finally, the documentation of curatorial projects and exhibitions realized as a practical part of the dissertation project is attached.

Post-graffiti art: Interweaving of painting and street/graffiti art in contemporary Czech art
DRAŽAN, Richard
The thesis deals with a contemporary artistic phenomenon of post-graffiti. It maps its development and main artists, while it attempts to encompass what can be considered a post-graffiti work and thus define its boundaries. Contemporary artists, mainly painters who work at least partially in this style are described. Those artists come not only from Czechia but also from abroad. The work thus primarely attempts to provide a detailed description and formal analysis of this phenomenon, while secondarily it aims to map the contemporary Czech post-graffiti scene. Based on research in the body of work, two main categories of artists' approach to the creation of post-graffiti paintings are outlined. Sub-genres of this phenomenon are also described. This thesis also explores the articulation of motivation that plays a significant role in an individual's transition to studio painting from illegal graffiti painting in the urban exterior. One of the chapters focuses on an aesthetic comparison of abstract expressionism and post-graffiti. A short section also includes a description and development of the Czech graffiti scene. The second part of the thesis is devoted mainly on interpretation of the works of Czech artists that can be categorised as post-graffiti in their contemporary work or in part of their artistic career. This section also includes characteristics comparison of Czech and foreign approaches to the creation of post-graffiti artworks. Furthermore, the theoretical argumentation of high and low art is applied to the relationship between graffiti and post-graffiti. This issue of art hierarchization is reviewed throughout the whole body of this academic work.
