Underground on the hill? Interfaces and differences between the underground and the Hanspaul movement

The underground, especially the music scene is a relatively closed community connected mainly with the names of Ivan Martin Jirous, Egon Bondy and the The Plastic People of the Universe band, to which a whole range of activities of other individuals and groups scattered all over the country are connected. The Hanspaulka movement, which dates its beginnings to 1966, peaked in the late 1970s and gradually declined in the mid-1980s, has not yet been thought of in connection with the underground. The aim of these reflections was to point out the connections, but also the differences, between the two communities and thus point out the problematic nature of isolating the underground movement from a much wider environment of other unofficial and non-state-controlled activities.
From American Spirituals to Czech Folk Ballads: Spiritual Kvintet and the Sources of their Lyrics over Six Decades

The paper deals with the lyrical aspect of Spiritual Kvintet’s repertoire and the sources from which the Czech group has drawn over their 60-year-long career. Initially, they were interested in African American spirituals, which gave the group its name. Soon after they added the folk songs of European immigrants to the USA. Czech sources of Spiritual Kvintet’s repertoire include European Renaissance songs, transcribed from lute tablatures of the Rudolphine era, songs of the Czech national revival, traditional Czech folk ballads, and finally some original compositions by Czech authors. The wide range of genres was matched by the unifying character of the lyrics. Both the foreign and archaic songs required translation into Czech, so the local audience would understand. The new lyrics were supplied by the members and friends of the group (Jiří Tichota, František Novotný, Dušan Vančura, and Vlastimil Marhoul), and some were provided by the renowned lyricist Ivo Fischer. The authors often shifted the specific nuances of the original meaning in favour of keeping the rhythm and sonority of the Czech verses. Nevertheless, they managed to formulate the songs’ original social message in a way that evoked associations with the domestic social situation. The diversity of the texts was unified by the musical arrangements, based on multi-voiced singing accompanied by guitar, double bass, and other acoustic instruments.

5 Abstract This thesis is focused on the poetics of czech hip hop lyrics. It deals with meanings lyrics can posess inside the frame of different models of youth subcultures or in context of dominant culture. The comparathive method showed being of good use because of cultural transfer, that lies in the very basics of hip hop music and culture. The relation between music and lyrics in a whole of single performance, whether is it concert or record, is also an important topic of this research. Linguistic Analysis of the Jananas Band's Lyrics

This bachelor's thesis aims to analyze the lyrics of the music group Jananas mainly from a linguistic point of view. In the theoretical part of this thesis it clarifies the view of the researched language material - song lyrics. Music and speech are undoubtedly related. In the beginning, we will look at this relationship between music and language, but we will also present some findings that make music and speech completely different. We will also describe the relationship between poems and songs. The boundary between these genres is relatively thin, so we will try to define their differences. We will specify the inclusion of song lyrics in the sphere of communication, and we will also include these lyrics in the functional style. We will look at the songs partly from the point of view of musicology. We will define their musical genre and briefly summarize the history of the development of this genre in the Czech Republic. We will introduce the music group Jananas in more detail. In the practical part, selected lyrics from two albums released by the Jananas music group will be subjected to linguistic analysis. We will focus on the phonetic-phonological side, the morphological side, the lexicon, the syntactic side, and also on the textual construction of individual song lyrics. The lyrics will also...
Historical reflections in current European song lyrics (since 1980) in selected thematic areas and its influence on historical consciousness

This thesis will be examining current song lyrics in popular and scholarly way to professionally judge possibilities of real impact of this lyrics to a historical consciousness of the listener. Then it will be following up the reasons why are historical topics so frequentative in song lyrics, various ways of interpretations, way od misinterpretations, influence of used instrument like language, form of the performance, sings, composition, mass character etc… To every each chosen interpret will be dedicated concrete and specific space in this thesis by the amount of the historical impact in his work. The result of this thesis should be very integrated and educated view to this subject of interest.
Chanson as a complex speech act and its translatability

The main contribution consists in determination of a relation between borrowed chansons and their French originals. The realization of the thesis is based on a research on the field of literary translation and acting on the one hand and on the analysis of song lyrics and dramatic performances on the other hand. The analyses in both cases concern three selected French chansons and Czech versions corresponding to them. The first part of the thesis defines the chanson and explains its historical development in the Czech territory. The theory of literary translation and lyrics translation is presented and applied to the translation of chanson in the second part. The third part deals with possibilities of a dramatic interpretation of chanson on the basis of the theory of acting. The last part brings a double analysis which concerns song lyrics and dramatic interpretation of chosen pairs of chanson.
