Vančura, Sebastian ; Groman, Martin (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
The bachelor thesis Analysis of movie and television content referring to the Czech underground produced before 1989 focuses on the elements of communist propaganda in the nationwide campaign against the Czechoslovak underground in the 1970s. The thesis examines film and television content produced about the underground movement in the 1970s using qualitative discursive and content analysis method. In the theoretical part, I draw on literature and contemporary newspaper articles to add the historical context. I also present events that had an impact on the development of musical genres in socialist Czechoslovakia and the creation of the underground as a way of life. The next part presents a short history of the bands The Plastic People of the Universe and DG 307 and introduces the circumstances of the Kapela event of the clandestine State security. The last chapters of the theoretical part are devoted to propaganda and its use in film. In the practical part of the thesis, the film Atentát na kulturu (Assassination of Culture) and the episode Mimikry from the 30 případů majora Zemana (Thirty Cases of Major Zeman) TV series are analysed. In the conclusion, the most important findings of the analysis are summarized and the propaganda elements of the two analysed films are compared. The thesis aims to...
Discourse Analysis of Islamic Terrorist Propaganda on the Internet
Fuxa, Filip ; Střítecký, Vít (advisor)
Thesis Discourse Analysis of Islamic Terrorist Propaganda on the Internet uses the method of thematic discourse analysis to study jihadi discussion forums in the cyberspace. Since the beginning of the last decade of the 20th century the Internet has became one of the most powerful communication tools through which are jihadi terrorists able to reach thousands of Muslims worldwide. After the traditional Western media had intensively begun to filter terrorist messages shortly after 11/9/2001, jihadists found a perfect way how to draw attention of these media once more - not directly, but through the Internet communication which is widely used by traditional media as a source of their content. The first part of this thesis presents theoretical framework for the second, purely practical part. Firstly, this paper deals with propaganda as a form of communication, shows the Internet as a medium that has absorbed all other media, and analyses the terrorism spread through the Internet. The main part of this study focuses on the jihadi discourse, through which jihadists view the Islamic world as suffering under the oppression of the West to persuade passive Muslim audience to join the jihad. This paper deals not only with different types of propaganda, but also with intentions of propagandists and the means...

Memory and Identity of Wenceslas Square
Tucaković, Jana ; Halbich, Marek (advisor) ; Wohlmuth, Petr (referee)
The subject of the thesis is a representation of Wenceslas Square as a space of symbolic importance for Czech society. Historical perspective is conducive to understanding of such unique status. Contemporary space is a subject of commodification in the tourism area. Official memory is represented via public historical exhibitions and rituals connected to the Velvet Revolution. This memory is being updated in context of the war in Ukraine as a fight for democratic values. Protests and manifestations, happening at the square, express the identity of Czech society with connection to the war from positions of establishment and dissent. Within the thesis the contradictions are being examined through common topics - fear and war, hate and solidarity, censorship and disinformation.
Disinformation as a security threat in the Czech information space in connection with the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic
HŘEBEČEK, Jan
The thesis deals with the problem of disinformation news in the Czech information space, with attention paid to disinformation in connection with the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. The aim of the thesis was to identify selected disinformation that appeared in the Czech information space in connection with the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and to put them in context, to examine the impact of disinformation messages, the dangers of underestimating them, and to answer the research question what impact disinformation had in the Czech information space in connection with the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. To achieve the objective, a quantitative research strategy was chosen and implemented through a questionnaire survey focused on the spread of disinformation news, the viewership and credibility of selected disinformation media in the context of other media, mass forwarded emails, attitudes towards disinformation news and sources of information in the society-wide context. The research sample consisted of 511 respondents from the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, University of South Bohemia. The results uncovered some gaps in the aforementioned areas of research, even though students are being prepared to provide work, care and services in many areas of health care facilities and beyond, and medical, biological, natural science and advanced nursing and scientific knowledge is an important line of study for them. Nearly one-third of respondents (29%) agreed with more than one misinformation question. Further, 74% of respondents agreed that someone in their environment has changed behaviors or attitudes because of misinformation related to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic. At the same time, exactly 30% of the respondents show a certain level of vulnerability in terms of succumbing to the effects of misinformation messages, as they are unable to recognise misinformation or to express themselves clearly on the issue. Due to the combination of vulnerability, following society-wide events mainly on online networks and in TV, their age and social status, the possibility of succumbing to radicalisation is several times higher than in the rest of society. Therefore, the above findings in this thesis are an important finding that should start receiving much more attention than it has so far. The thesis is aimed primarily at the professional community and offers a relatively comprehensive view of the issue.
"Human Laughter, Class Struggle Hatred": Art and Political Parties Propaganda in Czechoslovakia between 1918 and 1939
TOMÁŠ, Adam
This research is aimed to interpret some of the important moments during the time between the two world wars in Czechoslovakia, mainly their visual aspect such as propaganda material and specific mythology. Theoretical prologue is followed by twelve more or less autonomous chapters focused on individual phenomenons, especially political caricature, as being reflected in the press of the first Czechoslovak republic. Introductional theoretical chapters cover the problematic of propaganda, as well as other particularly linguistic fields, which at that time were newly applied to visual image. The issues mentioned, along with Roland Barthes' similar approach, lay groundwork for us to understand the idea of propagandistic power of image, such as enemy stereotypes, antisemitism, or ideologically biased image of tramping. The themes of the chapters were chosen in such a way, so that they would describe important events and phenomenons of the 1918-1939 era in Czechoslovakia, with emphasis on their ambivalence as well as on the fact that they are open to a new interpretation. This specific approach was also the reason why I omitted events such as establishment of the republic or the Munich Agreement from the thesis - we can consider the propaganda related references of these events in periodical press of the time as straightforward, and therefore not needed to be discussed. The most traditional propaganda material, for example fliers during election time, were not covered for the very same reason. I have intentionally placed the partially separate topic of national Sokol meetings, interpreted as the live image of the ruling democratic discourse in Czechoslovakia, at the end of my thesis.
Media education in teaching of history of the post-February Czechoslovakia (including the South Bohemian region)
VÁLKOVÁ, Jana
The presented thesis deals with the period 1948-1960 in Czechoslovakia in the teaching of history from the perspective of media education. Media education, as one of the cross-cutting themes of the Framework Educational Programmes, is conceived here mainly in terms of the influence of the media on public opinion. Based on the analysis of current history textbooks, the work deals with topics that are a suitable example of contemporary communist propaganda. Among the selected topics are political persecution, the currency reform of 1953, the reflection of propaganda in art and the campaign accompanying the fight against the potato beetle. The core of the work is the publication of materials, especially of a written and visual nature, which appropriately illustrate contemporary propaganda. At the very end of the work presents several model worksheets for teaching history, which are based on these materials.

Evolution of information warfare expert environment in Czechia
Čičmanec, Martin ; Střítecký, Vít (advisor) ; Ludvík, Jan (referee)
As the tensions between Russia and the West had grown, so had the intensity of hybrid warfare operations, such as Russian disinformation campaigns. These campaigns have contributed to the current polarization of societies not only in the USA, but also in many EU countries and have prompted Western societies to seek appropriate ways to defend themselves against information warfare. Over the last decade, a colourful community of experts developed, empowered to identify specific threats and propose solutions. This study explores how the growing securitization of disinformation affects the development of security expertise in Czechia. Sociological methods, social network analysis, and social capital were applied to uncover and analyze a network of security experts focused on information warfare. SNA allowed mapping both networks of crucial organizers and experts, their social relations, and professional backgrounds. The analyses showed ongoing dynamic development of the network characterized by growing complexity and fragmentation. However, the network is united in its stance on opposing pro-Russian influences. As the network developed, new topics and experts with professional backgrounds emerged. Nevertheless, think tanks remain recognized as both key experts and organizers, drawing their expertise...
