Momo Kapor: Magija Beograda - commented rendition of a narrative cycle

Short story cycle Magija Beograda (2008, The Magic of Belgrade, Czech anthology Belgrade, my magic love!, 2014) is one of the last works of Serbian author Momo Kapor. His subject matter is contemporary picture of Belgrade and characters in his work are people, who are emotionally bound to this city. The aim of this dissertation is to introduce a Czech translation of the short stories and their translatological commentary. This work deals with the theme of Belgrade work of Kapor, which the author engaged in throughout his whole life and wrote in this style for more than ten years. This area of his work still does not have a Czech literary translation. This dissertation also brings more coherent author's portrait. Pivotal part consists of two chapters, first one is devoted to the profile of the author and the second one to the translation and commentary.

Narrative Structures in Virginia Woolf's Shorter Fiction

Thesis Abstract One of the basic principles of modernism was to evaluate existing traditions and cultural norms, to innovate them, and to get rid of them if necessary. The need and urge to innovate proved to be immensely productive in the short story genre. The short story is now perceived as independent of other prose forms precisely thanks to the modernists. Virginia Woolf was one of the most enthusiastic innovators of the form, her work in the genre is nevertheless often overlooked in comparison to her novels, or even in comparison to other short story writers, such as Katherine Mansfield or James Joyce. This thesis deals with selected narrative structures in Virginia Woolf's shorter fiction. It works with the basic assumption that when Woolf's short stories are read, her novels have to be taken into account as well due to numerous thematic and other affinities. However, it is also of importance to evaluate Woolf's short fiction without measuring them against her novels as these are two distinct genres. The thesis introduction presents an overview of the literary and cultural context of the times in which Woolf lived and wrote, with emphasis on her familiarity with the Russian writers, primarily Chekhov, and the first Post-Impressionist painters. Poetics of selected short stories written by Pere Calders

(in English) The bachelor work observes selected short stories taken from the book called Cròniques de la veritat oculta written by Catalan author Pere Calders. The aim of this thesis is to analyse the poetics which is typical for this writer. It investigates topics which are often repeated, symbols and space where the plot takes place. It compares the short stories of Calders with other works of writers within the same literary genre who use similar storytelling methods. The emphasis is put mainly on the comparison with the output of Franz Kafka.

A commented translation of slovenian book: Jasmin B. Frelih Ideoluzije

The goal of this diploma thesis is to create an annotated Czech translation of a literary text. Specifically, the selected three short stories from the collection Ideoluzije (2015) by a Slovenian writer Jasmin B. Frelih. The stories chosen for translation are De Nachtwacht, Vrabci and Pritisk konca. The first part of the thesis briefly introduces the author and his work. The main focus of the work is the translation of selected short stories and creating a professional commentary. The theoretical-practical part deals with individual phenomena that may be problematic in translation, such as neologisms, vulgarisms, interjections, etc. The theoretical interpretation is supported by examples from the short stories. This thesis aims to clarify translation procedures and methods as well as to present solutions to the problems mentioned.

Unfulfilled Desires in the Story Collection Lettipark by Judith Hermann

This diploma thesis focuses on thematic interpretation of the short stories collection Lettipark by Judith Hermann, which was released in 2016 in German language. The Czech translation was published in 2018. Within individual interpretations never realized images, expectations and dreams will be accented. They may be regarded as unfulfilled desires of the main characters of the short stories. One part of this diploma thesis also includes the categorization of the author into German literature since the middle 90's of the last century until today. Edgar Allan Poe as the Progenitor of the Modern Detective Tale

This thesis focuses on detective stories by Edgar Allan Poe featuring the detective Dupin. It first delineates the development of the genre from early epics to contemporary authors, then takes a closer look at the key features of a detective story as they appear in the short stories 'The Murders in the Rue Morgue', 'The Mystery of Marie Roget' and 'The Purloined Letter'. It also compares these short stories with the works of some later authors of detective fiction. Finally, it presents a novel by Friedrich Dürrenmatt as a critical response to certain features of the genre.

A tale in the preschool education

This bachelor thesis specializes in the stories, in the forms of these stories and their influence of the child in preschool age. The main focus is about work with story during pedagogical operation in the nursery school. The aim of my bachelor thesis is prepared integrated unit which is bassed on czech national fairytale named "Hrnečku, vař!" by Karel Jaromír Erben. The main way in this fairytale is used narration. The part of narration are movement and art activities divided into weekly thematic unit.

Doppelgänger in spanish short stories

(in English) The topic of this master thesis is a character of the double in Spanish short stories focused on 20th century. Firstly, we describe the historical context of this literary theme and we observe its changing through the time, its transition from a tragic tone to absurdity or a comic tone. The aim of this work is to observe Freud's concept of "unheimlich" feeling applied to the topic of the double and to investigate what literary tools can intensify this feeling in the reader. After this, we focus on repeating motives in selected short stories and we contemplate constituent aspects of this topic in the context of humanities.
