Paul Éluard between two Muses
Liberská, Lenka ; Pohorský, Aleš (advisor) ; Šuman, Záviš (referee)
This thesis analyses two creative periods of a French poet Paul Éluard, during which he was influenced by two surrealistic Muses Elena Ivanovna Diakonovna (Gala) and Maria Benz (Nusch) who were at the same time his partners in life. Importance of a poetry inspired by the last Muse Dominique Lemort is mentioned shortly. The aim of this study is to compare poetry from both periods and point out both differences and common character features of women who inspired the author. Finally it will try to answer the question whether in the Éluard's work there is present a single idea of woman-Muse or not. Analysis was conducted on verses especially from books of poetry Capitale de la douleur, L'Amour la Poésie, La vie immédiate and Facile.
The Wrath of the Water and Its Relationship with Geasa in the Celtic Mythology
Syrová, Kristýna ; Antalík, Dalibor (advisor) ; Kozák, Jan (referee)
TITLE: The Wrath of the Water and Its Relationship with Geasa in the Celtic Mythology AUTHOR: Kristýna Syrová DEPARTMENT: Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies SUPERVISOR: Doc. Dalibor Antalík, PhD. ABSTRACT: This thesis examines two similar medieval Irish narratives, 'Boann' and 'Sinann', from so called dindshenchas, interpreting the concept of the well of wisdom and the right to approach it, as well as looking for probable parallels of the story in other Celtic sources. Although it works towards encompassing the theories of other scholars, who used to be concerned mainly about parallels of this theme in other Indo-European cultures, the main aim here is different. The thesis is trying to explain the chosen narrative from the inside of the medieval Irish society, namely through a specific Irish ideology of a learned class of poets, the filid. It is also aiming to show how the relationship between physical boundaries, such as rivers, and social boundaries (which were connected to the institution of geasa, so called Irish taboos) could have had an influence on the narrative. Though we cannot deny pre-Christian mythological roots of the story, the author maintains that it was revised by the medieval filid to help them face a peculiar problem: an ambivalent position of a female poet within the...

Using essays and public speeches from thematic conferences and congresses, it describes the development of poetry and journalism in this crucial historical period as well as examines their role and mission. This is used to report on socialist realism in literature and provide testimonies of prominent political and cultural figures of the time on literature, poetry, and journalism. Furthermore, it shows how the front pages of Rudé právo were designed on special occasions and what some of the texts contained. The thesis also introduces the most important socialist holidays, explains their context, and opens up the issue of the societal role of them and the way they are presented. Finally, the thesis also contains information on the the "Pracující do literatury" ("Workers for Literature") campaign. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
The lyrical subject of the poetry of crepuscolari
Ertlová, Monika ; Pelán, Jiří (advisor) ; Čaplyginová, Olga (referee)
A poetic style of crepuscolarism originates in Italy of the beginning of the 20th century. This term is generally used to describe works of so called "poets of twilight". Crepuscolarism marks the beginning of the modern literature in Italy and stands in opposition to the classical literature of 19th century. In comparison to the older poetry, crepuscolari poetry differs, among others, in connection to lyrical subjects - here the relation is clearly negative. The aim of this thesis is to provide both an analysis, and description of Italian crepuscolari poetry, in order to determine the nature of lyrical subjects used. It also compares and contrasts works of the most important poets or Crepuscolarism thier impact on the future generation of Italian poets. After a theoretical introduction, four chapters follow. These are devoted to the most important crepuscolari poets, namely Guido Gozzano, Sergio Corazzini, Marino Moretti, and Aldo Palazzeschi. Here bio-bibliographic information, typical characteristics of their poetry, their understanding of the role of a poet, and relations to lyrical subjects were described in and analysed. In following chapters these results were compared to the development of the lyrical subject in the next generation of Italian poets (Eugenio Montale, Umberto Saba, Giuseppe...

The New York School Poets and Visual Arts: The Poetry of John Ashbery and Frank O'Hara
Žůrková, Michaela ; Veselá, Pavla (advisor) ; Robbins, David Lee (referee)
The New York School Poets and Visual Arts: The Poetry of John Ashbery and Frank O'Hara The poetry of the New York School poets is highly influenced by visual art; the poets, such as Frank O'Hara, John Ashbery, Kenneth Koch and John Schuyler, were affected mainly by Abstract Expressionism, Surrealism, Cubism and Dada. The reason why visual art had such a strong effect on their poetry is that the painters of the New York School dominated the art world, they set the trends, and poets and musicians followed them. Also, visual art played a major role in the lives of the poets as many of them were art critics and they often collaborated with the artists. The thesis focuses on two of the New York School poets, O'Hara and Ashbery, as the influence of visual art in their poetry is most prominent in comparison to the other New York School poets. O'Hara mainly uses the techniques of Abstract Expressionism and he is mostly interested in the art of Jackson Pollock. O'Hara's poems carry immediacy and they are based on the expression of the present moment. The focus on the present parallels with the techniques of action painting which channels the artist's self and emotions. The use of such techniques as the "push" and "pull" theory, and the work with the surface and perspective are displayed within experimenting with the...

Boháčová, Kristýna ; Vojvodík, Josef (advisor) ; Vojtěch, Daniel (referee)
The thesis follows the line of solitude in the poetry of Jan Kameník (which is the pen name of Ludmila Macešková). It notices the impossibility of classifying him into the literary groups active from 40's to 60's. It also observes his dramatic way which was motivated by desire to find the expression for his spiritual experience. First, the thesis focuses on places which illustrate the phases during the way. Then it centres on the poetic language which moves to the boundaries of communicability. Last, it comes to the touch like specific revelation of name where all differences are overcame.
