Approach of Czech political parties towards referendum in Czech republic

Czech Pirate Parties and SPD took the third and the fourth place in the last election to the parliament in 2017. These parties focused in their campaigns to the topic of the referendum and pure democracy. Especially party SPD has a nationwide referendum in their programme. The object of my thesis is to find out the approach of five Czech political parties towards the referendum in the Czech Republic. To explain what the referendum means and its characteristic features.

The Phenomenon of Euroscepticism demonstrated by the example of German AfD and Czech SPD

The Bachelor thesis deals with the phenomenon of Euroscepticism, which is demonstrated by the example of two political parties. The subject of the analysis are the German party Alternative for Germany (AfD) and the Czech party Freedom and Direct Democracy - Tomio Okamura (SPD). The thesis firstly addresses Euroscepticism in general, observing and comparing the level of public Euroscepticism in Germany and the Czech Republic. Subsequently, both political groups are categorized with the help of three presented theoretical concepts. Special emphasis is placed on historical development of AfD and SPD, which serves as a basis for exploring the motivation to establish them. Based on the analysis and comparison of the respective electoral programs to the European and national elections, the thesis compares the program priorities with regard to the attitude towards European integration. The current European Parliament election programs 2019, together with a record of personal interviews with party representatives, allow us to describe their ideal vision of the European cooperation.

The bachelor's thesis deals with the origins and development of the Czech political party SPD - Tomio Okamura. The teoretical part is focused on political parties in general, on their definition, origin, typology and functions. One part of the thesis is focused on the system of political parties. The second part of the thesis is dedicated to the origin and development of SPD, from the first political party Tomio Okamura established to the current situation of SPD. Local referendum in the CR - the law, its application in practice and ideas de lege ferenda

The thesis examines local referendums, a form of direct democracy that is used the most in the Czech Republic. Nowadays, it is a standard part of municipal politics. The goal of the paper is to provide a complex analysis of the legislation, based primarily on relevant case- law, and to provide proposals for its amendment. The thesis is composed of an introduction, ten chapters and a conclusion. The order of the paper largely follows the composition of the Act on Local Referendum. Chapter One describes direct democracy and its forms. Chapter Two examines the relevant constitutional and international legislation. Chapter Three describes the scope of topics that may be subjects of local referendums in general and also looks at the most frequent ones. Chapter Four concerns itself with voters and the preparative committee - a body that puts forward the proposal to hold a local referendum - and examines its assembling and operation. Chapters Five and Six explore the committee's proposal and its review procedure conducted by municipal authorities and also by municipal councils that render the final decision to hold a local referendum. The Rise of Direct Democracy in the Czech Republic: Sources, Use and Consequences

In the last few decades there has been an expansion of institutions of direct democracy in most developed countries. The Czech Republic has been no exception and over the past 25 years, there has been a rise of direct democracy in the Czech Republic. The aim of the dissertation is an analysis of the use of direct democracy in the Czech Republic. Although the analyses are based mainly on data from the Czech Republic, the aim is also to contribute to scholarly debates in the field of direct democracy research. I focus on the following questions: Who supports the use of direct democracy and who participates in it in the Czech Republic? How do voters form opinions and what are the characteristics of direct democracy campaigns? What is the effect of direct democracy on other forms of political participation? I view direct democracy as an institutional innovation and evaluate it based on three criterions: inclusiveness, competence and efficiency. First, I focus on who supports the expansion of direct democracy. I also study the patterns of turnout of various social groups in direct democracy (inclusiveness). Direct democracy at the municipal level in the Czech Republic

The objective of the submitted diploma thesis is to analyze the subject of a direct democracy system in the Czech Republic focusing on the local level of governance. The possibility of being able to participate imminently in the municipal government and thus amending the current representative model became the subject of not only political discussions over the last few years. The thesis is composed of a foreword and five chapters, which are hereafter divided to subchapters for better transparency. Findings and author suggestions concerning the possible future forms of the local democracy are summarized in the conclusion. The introductory chapter presents the direct democracy in a theoretical way and shows how it differs from the representative democracy model. It also contains the definition of the five most respected forms of a direct democracy, which are: referendum, plebiscite, citizen initiative, petition and recall. Following two chapters are focused on the situation in Czech Republic, first in general, then with an emphasis on the municipal scene. Direct Democracy in public discussion in Czech Republic. Political actors, their proposals and political practice

The Diploma thesis will deal the main actors who support elements of direct democracy in Czech political system. Concurrently I want critically approach to their thesis and valorize its relevance, viability and potential impact for Czech society. First of all I will present each of elements of direct democracy, which are town meeting, initiative, referendum and recall. I refuse that a direct election of president or other political actor is an element of direct democracy. I classify a direct election of political actor like a synonym of representative democracy in this Diploma thesis. I will also present examples of countries like Switzerland or California, which has huge experience with using of direct democracy. Focus of my interest will be also on Scottish independence referendum and Slovak referendum about family and marriage. Proposals to amend the electoral and political system in contemporary Czech public debate

The thesis "Proposals to amend the electoral and political system in contemporary Czech public debate" examines proposals presented by different types of entities who are trying to rectify the Czech policy. The current political scene is struggling with problems such as corruption, bribery and government instability. Such a situation leads to dissatisfaction with politicians and it may ultimately lead to their alienation. The starting point is to reform the policy and restore the confidence of citizens and their interest in public affairs. The aim of this paper is to describe what proposals dominate the current debate on the amendment of the Czech electoral system and in many cases can lead to a change of the political system. The thesis is divided into four thematic sections. The first, theoretical part briefly introduces the concept of democracy, individual elements of direct democracy and the typology of political systems. In addition, there are information about the Czech constitutional order and the development of the electoral system in the Czech Republic. Stuttgart 21: political and social reflection

This thesis Stuttgart 21: public and political reflection deals with the railway and urban project Stuttgart 21, in particular with the public and political actions related to the project. The thesis starts with summarization of the factual information about the project and follows with presentation of analyses of the actual protests, which culminated on the "black Thursday" in 2010, when the serious conflict between protesters and police officers occurred. The government reacted by arranging a settlement through the so called dialogs of conciliation, which should have helped to recover from the escalated situation. At these dialogs, which were moderated by the politician Heiner Geißler, supporters and opponents of the project and experts in the area gathered. After these dialogs, the situation calmed down mildly. Solution of the dispute related to the Stuttgart 21 project was really important because the elections to the Landtag of Baden-Württemberg followed shortly after (March 2011). Because of the actions in connection with the Stuttgart 21 project and also because of the nuclear energy elections topic, which emerged due to the accident in Fukushima, the 'Die Grünen' party came into power.
