How the czech music magazines contributed to the process of comercionalization of electronic dance music?

This diploma thesis deals with the role of a printed music media in the process of commercialization of electronic dance music in the Czech Republic in the early 2000s. The research is based on the theoretical approach of subcultural studies, more specifically on the Chicago school. The theoretical part is focused on the definition of terms such as subculture, moral panic, subcultural capital and commercialization. The empirical part is focused on qualitative research of selected media, consisting of content analysis of contemporary periodicals and semi-structured interviews with selected media editors. In total, 134 issues were analyzed and four interviews were conducted with respondents as part of the research. The results show the role of selected magazines as subcultural media, which significantly contributed to the development of electronic dance music in our country. Using the obtained results, the work defines the main events and meanings by which the selected media influenced the dance music scene of that time. 1

The credibility of news in the world of data journalism

The term crisis of journalism is widely discussed nowadays. This paper examines whether journalism is in crisis, or whether it is a development caused by changes in the digital world. It also examines possible causes of this crisis and transformation in the digital world. One of the main causes of this is a perceived loss of credibility of the information given to the public. Therefore, there is a deeper interpretation of what trust and trustworthiness is and what can dis/trust cause in the society. In the context of the changes which journalism faces today, it describes the transformation of the role of the audience to active self-editor and outlines how the audience must orientate in the news itself. Otherwise, the media focused on earnings will continue to thrive on sensationalism and moral panics that will negatively effect social reality. In the empirical part this paper deals with the case of Břeclav in 2012, which is an exemplary example of moral panic with consequences.

The Politicization of Sexuality in South Africa

1 Abstract This diploma thesis deals with the topic of politicization of sexuality in South Africa in relation to sexual violence against children. Using qualitative content analysis the paper examines, how the "baby rape" phenomenon is described in South African media production and how it relates to the new democracy in the post-apartheid South Africa. Likewise, attention is paid to the issue of virginity testing, which is interpreted as a reaction to the "moral crisis" of the newly formed democratic nation. The examined issue is viewed in the wider context of social relations, therefore using an intersectional approach. The analytical aspect of the analysis includes the categories of race, gender, and sexuality. The intersectional concept analyzes the role of media representation in designing individual social categories and thus strengthening certain forms of oppression. The theoretical background of the work is based on black feminism and the Stanley Cohen's theory of moral panic. With analysing media representation it is examined the way the gender, sexuality, and race are studied and represented in order to answer the thesis question of how Western discourse intersects through these analytical categories. Immigrants media representation in the Italian press and its development

Diploma thesis "Framing of sea arrivals of the migrants and refugees in the Italian press in 2011 and 2014" examines how Italian newspapers cover the topic of sea arrivals of migrants and refugees from North Africa during the Arab Spring and an exponential increase of arrivals in 2014, which heralded the migration crisis. At the first part of the thesis, theoretical concepts are summarized, including framing, securitization theory and moral panic, and researches of media representation and framing of the immigration. The theoretical section is followed by the contextual part. Within the analysis, the work is based on the concept of framing and therefore the primarily observed aspects are the emphasized or hidden aspects of the phenomenon. A combination of qualitative and quantitative analysis was chosen as the approach for describing the framing of the topic. The aim of the qualitative analysis is a deeper understanding of the analyzed material, generation of a set of specific frames, their detailed description and definition, and subsequent designation of hypotheses. Apocalyptic movie - background, forms and function

The bachelor thesis "Apocalyptic movie - background, forms and function" deals the apocalyptic movie phenomenon as a functional element in the occidental civilization since 1920s until now. It investigates the origins of apocalyptic thinking, i.e. expectation of the end- time, and emphasizes its religious, philosophic and practical impact in society based on Judeo- Christian tradition. It tries to adumbrate recent public apprehension, evoked by technology development, spreading of diseases, overpopulation or clash of cultures, and sums up various pessimistic visions in perspectives of human and natural sciences. Then it focuses on the beginning of apocalyptic theme in literary fiction and finally in cinematography. The work brings the original typology of apocalyptic themes, designed on the base of sample of one hundred and fifty best rated movies, and with that tries to confirm reflecting essence of apocalyptic movie, whereas compares distribution of themes and parallel social events or moods in decades. In an effort to clarify function of apocalyptic movie, the work, with help of McLuhan's media theory, uses the concept of moral panic.
