Constitutional court of Czech Republic decisions on media

This bachelor thesis concerns decisions of the Czech Republic Constitutional Court affecting medial area. It is divided into four chapters of which the first two are theoretical while the other two are practical oriented. Chapter one describes the term medial system and presents their individual models and presents Czech Republic as one these. This chapter also describes legislation concerning freedom of speech and the legal protection of personality. The second chapter focuses on the Constitutional Court of Czech Republic and its position in Czech judicatory system and explains means of how the Court can affect media and journalists. It also concerns obligatory effect the Court's decisions within Czech law system. Practical part of the thesis is dedicated to analysis of several Constitutional Court's decisions. This part of the paper discover the Court's influence on Czech medial environment and the work of journalists. The Constitutional Court has defined the boundaries of law execution regarding the freedom of speech and also defined several concepts connected to media. This thesis shows that the Court affect journalists' work in the way that they know how to phrase their statements without disturbing the freedom of speech.

Czechoslovak (Czech) Radio Broadcasting and Cultural Innovation

This thesis Czechoslovak (Czech) Radio Broadcasting and Cultural Innovation is designed as a cultural study of radio boradcasting development in years 1923 - 1999. Radio broadcasting development is interpreted as a process of cultural change. The aim of this thesis is to capture spreading innovation of the radio and describe the stages of this cultural change. The thesis is divided into two parts, a theoretical part and an empirical part. The theoretical part defines basic problems, deals with the theory of culture and media, the characteristics of radio communication. Particular attention is paid to description of the conditions affecting formation and development of the radio. The main focus of this work is to describe the radio development in Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic. The second part is devoted to analysis of empirical data and sources, predominantly to secondary and historical analysis of accessible data regarding the radio. The major emphasis is placed on culturological interpretation of results of the analysis. This part also summarizes the importance of cultural innovation in terms of development of the Czechoslovak and Czech radio broadcasting. The concluding chapter deals with changes of this radio broadcasting.

Ownership Forms of News Agencies in Selected EU Countries

The thesis "Ownership Forms of News Agencies in Selected EU Countries" aims to analyze the forms of ownership and other characteristics of the three national news agencies: British agency Press Association, Swedish agency Tidningarnas Telegrambyrå and Spanish agency EFE. Differences and similarities of the news agencies and the three media landscapes of UK, Sweden and Spain are explored within the context of the three media systems (North Atlantic, North/Central European and Mediterranean), described by Hallin and Mancini in their book Comparing Media Systems: Three Models of Media and Politics. The comparison is assessed on the basis of four parameters: development of media markets, political parallelism, professionalization and role of the state in media system. The thesis examines agencies from all possible angles. The conclusion summarizes the most important findings and evaluates the comparative analysis of the news agencies' ownership forms and media systems.

An Analysis of the media environment of Hong Kong in 2005-2010

The subject of this master thesis is the current development of the Hong Kong's news media in the period of 2005-2010 which is scrutinized through the prism of recent political and social changes of the region. The main object of this master thesis is to create a descriptive analysis of Hong Kong's mass media in the abovementioned period. This master thesis splits into three parts. First part is theoretical and examines the key media theories dealing with the concept of media systems. Furthermore, it uses the media theories to identify the Hong Kong's media system and embed it into the appropriate theoretical context. The second part presents the historical development of Hong Kong's press system and names Hong Kong's main newspapers of the last century. Third part, the main part of this master thesis, scrutinizes the development of the Hong Kong's media system after the political transition from the British to the Chinese "rule". Here, the main attention is paid to the current newspapers, broadcast stations and to the new trends in the Hong Kong's media environment. Finally, this master thesis evaluates whether the political pressure from China affects the Hong Kong's freedom of press and whether local journalists use methods of the self-censorship.

Development of the radio broadcasting as a cultural change

The graduation thesis Development of the Radio Broadcasting as a Cultural Change is designed as a cultural comparative study of the development of the radio in Czechoslovakia and the United States of America as a cultural change (the origin and transformation of the cultural element). The thesis is divided into two parts, a theoretical part and an analytical part. The theoritical part defines basic problems and deals with history of mediae in the world. The focus of this part is characterization of Czechoslovakian and American radio broadcasting. The analytical part is devoted to analysis of empirical data, predominantly to secondary analysis of accessible data regarding radio development. This part also focuses on culturological interpretation or reintepretation of results of the analysis. The concluding chapter deals with comparison of the development of the radio in Czechoslovakia and the USA.

Media landscape in Spain

The diploma thesis "The media landscape in Spain" aims to describe the contemporary Spanish media scene and apply the basic characteristics and particularities of the "polarized pluralist model" media system which was described by Hallin and Mancini in their book Comparing Media Systems and whose features are also allocated to other South European countries (Italy, Portugal, Greece and marginally also France) in addition to Spain. The description of the press and audiovisual media market itself is preceded by three extensive chapters dealing with press media development in Spain from its beginnings in the 17th century until today, media legislation and the concentration of media ownership. It was the development of the press (and, in the 20th century, the development of audiovisual media) which, due to its exceptionally close ties to politics, determined the shape of the contemporary Spanish media landscape, which is why the thesis focuses primarily on this topic. The historical and political development of the country and constantly changing systems of government led to frequent changes in law (press laws in particular), which makes Spain very different from other European countries in this aspect. Slovenian media system in Hallin and Manicini's model

The Master thesis Slovenian media system in comparison with Hallin's and Mancini's models tries to analyze the media system in Slovenia in order to conclude whether it can be classified into one of the models defined in the book Comparing media systems: three models of media and politics. The theoretical part deals with analysis of three models (polarized pluralist, democratic corporatist, liberal) and their main features. The second section then analyzes the various segments of the Slovenian media (print media, radio, television) and other aspects essential for comparative analysis, such as professionalism, regulation, media ownership and political parallelism. The paper seeks a critical evaluation of all these aspects and their inclusion in the broader context of media and all- society environment. Emphasis has been placed on the characteristics and trends typical of the Slovenian media system, in particular the consequences associated with "wild privatization" of the media and the subsequent interconnection of the world media and politics. Comparative part is based on the effort to determine whether these characteristics Slovenian media system fully belong to any of the presented models, or to what extent can similarities be regarded as significant.

Czech EU Presidency seen through the eyes of the member and non-member country: Semioticanalysis of the czech and swiss printed media in the period of the Czech EU Presideney

The master thesis "Czech presidency through the eyes of the member and non- member country" considers with the confrontation of articles from the time period of the EU-Czech Presidency which were published in the Czech newspaper Hospodarske noviny a in the Swiss newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung. The work concerns with that point how both newspapers constructed the reality of the Czech Republic during its EU-Presidency. The analysis will proceed through the framing method and semiotic analysis. From the framing analysis will result the quantitative data and in the semiotic analysis is included the critical discoursive analysis. The CDA will be discussed in the thesis. Media shows to the audience the secondary reality and they have impact to that what the people think about and what attitude they contain to which event. At this process participates the language. In the master thesis we would like to prove that the Swiss media Show another reality than the Czech one.

The presented rigorous thesis aims to analyse the structural transformation of press and the subsystem of the regional as well as local press in terms of mutual connections by means of explanatory and methodological research. The subsystem characteristics are based on the content, formal and geographical concepts; the connections with the system level are clarified. The developmental trends at the micro and macro level enable to monitor the changes of the media landscape after 1989. The transformation process is divided into phases and diversity encountered in transition countries is explained. Macro-level and micro-level factors of structural transformation are analysed in detail. The concept of the system microclimate enabled to monitor the sub-media as well as media space in the context of intermediary system. This causal link is an integral part of the transformation process, which is why the finding of a common ground between the social environment and subsystem of the regional and local press promotes the understanding of the observed characteristics and also creates its own microclimate for the new resulting concepts.
