Váňa, František ; Topolovská, Tereza (advisor) ; Ženíšek, Jakub (referee)
This thesis explores the development of individuality in Nigerian books for young adults, Akata Witch and Akata Warrior by Nnedi Okorafor. For that, the literary concepts of young adult literature and the heroic journey (monomyth) is used. This thesis aims to prove that the heroic journey framework may be applied to young adult literature, primarily concerning the formation of identity resulting a certain correlation between the two types of narrative. Based on the description of concepts of literary theory, such as the Other, described by Robyn McCallum, and the individual constitutive elements of the heroic journey, in the theoretical part, the analysis from both vantage points and subsequent correlation between them is described in the practical part. The two books that are analysed are described from the point of three major concepts of young adult literature and all twenty six steps of the heroic journey, based on Campbell and other literary theorists. Based on this analysis, it is concluded that there is a certain correlation between the two narrative frameworks. It is especially similar concerning the growth of individuality of its protagonists. Despite there being a correlation among the two types of narrative, young adult literature and the heroic journey, certain elements do not have...
Primary Architecture / Teaching Architecture Elements
Juřicová, Magdaléna ; Veselá, Markéta (referee) ; Ponešová, Barbora (advisor)
The thesis addresses the connection of the Faculty of Architecture and the Faculty of Fine Arts in the newly designed building. Both faculties are defined primarily by practical creation and corresponding elementary teaching spaces - studios. From these basic elements literally grows the final form of the school. The design process itself is accompanied by constant changes and the search for adequate spatial expression for individual functions of the school. The final solution is the result of gradual rationalisation, finding certainties and sticking points in the proposal. In the end, the barest, most elemental, is crystallized from a multitude of variations and reflections on space.
Baugruppe Now
Bevelaquová, Diana ; Landa, Filip (referee) ; Hora, Jan (advisor)
Is it better to live in country or in a city? Great access to work, school, shopping and culture or close proximity to nature, weekend barbecues with neighbors and tranquility. Do we have to choose? Is it possible to combine these qualities? Is the Baugruppe principle able to solve the housing conundrums of the current era? “Baugruppe is a group of people that combine their finances and efforts to construct an apartment building conforming to their notion of ideal living while remaining affordable.” (1) To me the Baugruppe lifestyle seems to be wedged in between the city experience and the more traditional way of living outside of it. In between the preplanned structure of the residences and the organic growth of the dwellings. In this bachelor’s thesis I examine these alternatives and their pros which beg to be merged together. I ponder the question: is it possible to embody this betweenness in the design of the residential complex – in its urban composition, its structure, its formal expression as well as its typology. On one hand prefabricated construction of apartment buildings based on market research brings monotone anonymity on the other hand it allows financial and construction efficiency. While the individual nature of a regular house project may enable freedom of expression, it may also hinder this freedom for any other project surrounding it. The houses themselves reflect the aesthetic values of their owners. The various reworks and additions reflect their changing needs. In Baugruppe the willingness to share space with members of the same community as well as outsiders meets the need to own real estate. The main goal of course still remains living well. In one’s own space, with neighbors of one’s own choosing, utilizing the economic and cultural assets of the city, while saving money that can be better used elsewhere. Be it larger living space or a greenhouse filled with tomatoes next to the house. (1) BAUGRUPPE! Manual, available on: http://www.baugruppe.cz/index.php?page=baugruppe-manual

Charles University in Prague, Faculty of education, Art education department. Title of the Diploma's Thesis: Art group 12/15 and its position in the Czech art after year 1989 ABSTRACT: The aim of the thesis is to describe and analyze the position of the Art Group 12/15 Better Late than never at Czech art scene after the year 1989, with an emphasis on generational changes and postmodern turn. In didactic part, the intention was to establish the awareness of the art group in the minds of students and, based on interdisciplinary ties, to repeat and broaden their knowledge of contexts. The theoretical part of the thesis is based on historical, art-historical and social science literature. To illustrate the time, atmosphere and position of Group 12/15 as precisely as possible, semi-structured and unstructured interviews with the group members themselves were used as a methodology. The diploma thesis shows that Group 12/15 and its generation are the bridge between the 2nd avant-garde, postmodern and contemporary art, maintaining the continuity of the Czech art scene. The didactic and practical part points out the importance of intergenerational discussion...
Utilization and potential of individual acoustic monitoring in birds
Kouřil, Jan ; Petrusková, Tereza (advisor) ; Schneiderová, Irena (referee)
Animal monitoring is a key tool for many disciplines and can be done many ways. One of them is acoustic monitoring, which is advantageous mainly for a research of animals with strong vocalisation. Bird vocalisations are one of the most conspicuous. It can carry many information about the singer, and identity is one of them. Vocal individuality has been documented in many bird species and it is considered as a widespread phenomenon. In species, where vocalisation is individually unique and also stable over time, it allows us to track and identify individuals from recordings of their vocalisations only, i.e. by individual acoustic monitoring. Using this approach, many ecological data (abundance, survival rate, etc.) might be successfully collected. So far, it was used mainly in species with simple, loud vocalisations which was difficult to monitor by commonly used physical marking due a dense habitats, cryptic coloration, low density of occurrence, etc. Most often, it used for owls, although the vocal individuality, or even its temporal stability, was documented in much more avian species. Compared to commonly used methods, individual acoustic monitoring is not used very often. However, it can be assumed that with the development an improvement of analytical methods, it will become a commonly used...
