School textbooks and their use in practice: the role of students in the evaluation of textbooks and geographical content

The present bachelor thesis deals with the issue of school textbooks. In the theoretical part, the textbook is clearly defined in terms of its privileged position among educational resources, its internal structure and the functions to which it is adapted. Furthermore, the extent to which it is used, and the way in which it is used in practice by teachers and pupils, is mapped out. Finally, the role of the learner as the evaluative subject of textbooks is presented, and specific recommendations for research and design of textbooks with the aim of increasing their use by learners are outlined. The practical part presents insights into the background of primary school pupils in order to test the theoretical assumptions regarding pupils' experiences of textbook use, their evaluation of the textbook and their preferred geographical themes in the content of the geography textbooks.
Activation teaching of geography focused on interdisciplinary relationships between history and geography

Diploma thesis deals with activating teaching at lower secondary schools. The main goal is creation of teaching materials which are possible to use in distance teaching and include interdisciplinary relations between history and geography. They should also contain the regional topics. All lessons are applied at primary school in Stachy as part of a continuous internship. The work also contains an analysis of geography and history textbooks. Evaluation of these learning texts is focused on their use in distance learning. Summary of pros and cons is shown by SWOT analysis. In theoretical part there is analysis of activation teaching methods. There is analysed also the impact of online education during the Covid-19 pandemic. The teaching materials themselves are embedded in curricular documents, i.e. in the FEP and SEP.
Selection and development of educational materials for high school support webpage www.studiumchemie.cz

This diploma thesis deals with selection, design and creation of new education materials for high school teacher supporting webpage www.studiumchemie.cz. The selection of the proper theme was done on the basis of research and evaluation of recent materials on the mentioned webpage and materials created at the Department of chemical education of Faculty of Science of Charles University in Prague. Preliminarily, the themes of synthetic macromolecular materials and new materials were selected. The convenience of the selected themes was confirmed by research and evaluation concerned to the preliminarily selected theme of recent high school textbooks and webpages. Consequently, educational materials in the form of PowerPoint presentations, websites, worksheets, tests, games and experiments focused on the themes of synthetic macromolecular substances and new materials were created. Materials were processed in accordance with the Framework Education Programme for Secondary General Education (Grammar Schools) as well as in accordance with the requirements of the Catalogue of graduation exam requirements from chemistry. The PowerPoint presentation and the webpage on synthetic macromolecular materials were roughly evaluated by group of teachers and the results of the evaluation are also part of the thesis....
Analysis of textbooks in terms of interpretation of global issues

In the contemporary world, when the whole world is connected, the fact saying that anything what happens on the other side of the world does not have influence to our lives is not truthful anymore. We live in an era of globalization. Therefore, it is important to focus on the global issues already at school and also on the way in which they concern us. However, it should be borne in the mind that, the most important thing is the way, how teachers explain it to their students. The main aim of this paper is to analyze geographic textbooks for high schools in terms of interpretation of global issues. Semantic units that are related to global issues will be sorted into groups according to the paradigm to which it belongs (national, humanistic and global). Most of semantic units contained in textbooks were included into a global direction, which is characterized by its neutrality. Evaluation of geographical textbooks in terms of environmental ethics

It is clear that the nature needs to be protected. But reasons for this need varies with individuals. Enviromental ethics deals with reasons why the nature should be protected and with attitude to the nature itself. In enviromental ethics there are several lines of thought. Here will be paid attention to theese five - theocentrism, athropocentrism, biocentrism, ecocentrism and lifeboat ethics. The aim of this study is to assess the level of representation of lines of though metioned above in Czech geographical textbooks. Considering that there are many of geographical textbooks, only textbooks designated for different types of high schools of publishers NČCGS, SPN, Fortuna and Fragment are evaluated.
Evaluation of Slovak geography textbooks in terms of approach to environmental ethics

This bachelor's thesis pursues Slovak geography textbooks for secondary schools in the aspects of their attitude towards environmental ethics. It investigates the ratio of differently oriented statements in particular textbooks. The statements are distributed into five principal categories of environmental ethics - anthropocentrism, theocentrism, biocentrism, ecocentrism and ethical evolution. The author compares the findings of this thesis with the findings of analogical thesis which dealt with Czech geography textbooks.
A comparative analysis of Geography textbooks for children with hearing impairment, children with mild intellectual disability, and children at mainstream elementary schools

The thesis provides an analysis and comparison of Geography textbooks for children with hearing impairment, children with a mild intellectual disability and children in mainstream elementary schools. The aim of the thesis is to highlight the current state of Geography textbooks for children with hearing impairment and, by means of combining findings on deaf education and the didactics of Geography, suggest specific solutions for improving the quality of education of children with hearing impairment through raising the standard for didactic materials used for teaching. The introduction of the thesis explores the position of Geography as a field of study within the School and Framework Educational Programmes; the objectives of teaching Geography at the second stage of elementary school are examined in relation to the target groups whose the textbooks are analysed in this thesis. Further, the thesis focuses directly on textbooks. The functions of the textbook in the educational process are introduced, as well as its structural components with a particular emphasis on the textual elements. Used textbook of civics and social sciences

The aim of the thesis is to explore the current state of using text books of civics and social sciences based on research at selected primary and secondary schools and to assess positive and negative aspects of these textbooks. The diploma thesis is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part will define textbook concept and describes its basic functions, requirements, structural components and evaluation. Furthermore, it focuses on the description of the text books of Civics and Social Sciences with former and current guidance of the Ministry of Education, which is commonly used in schools from 1989 to the present. The practical part will include research survey (questionnaire) realised on ten selected primary and secondary schools in Pelhřimov and Pacov. The research will be supplemented by interviews with teachers.
Analysis of textbooks for Informatics and ICT subjects in basic schools in Russia and in Slovakia

The theoretical part deals with characteristics of printed textbooks as didactical tools and as curriculum projects, including descriptions of textbook structures and their many functions. It acquaints with the methods used to mark and analyze textbooks, especially according to the evaluation criteria. The experimental part uses the questionnaires to show Informatic teachers' use and need of textbooks in the elementary schools in the Czech Republic. It also focuses on the mapping available in textbooks for ICT and computer-focused subjects used in Slovakia, Russia and the Czech Republic. It also conducts their content analysis and comparison using a quantitative method focused on the thematic tasks and activities of selected textbooks in consideration to the number of pages.
