Eating disorders in pediatric patiens with type 1 diabetes mellitus
Jodasová, Daniela ; Floriánková, Marcela (advisor) ; Kosheleva, Svetlana (referee)
English abstract: Aim: The primary objective of my bachelor thesis was to find out, what proportion of pediatric patients with type 1 diabetes have an increased risk of developing an eating disorder according to a standardized specialized questionnaire. Another aim of the work was to compare, whether the scores of these patients in the SCOFF questionnaire differ significantly, compared to their peers without diabetes. The secondary objectives were to determine, whether anthropometric data of patients and children from the control group correlated with the level of risk of eating disorder according to questionnaires and whether there is a correlation between the rate of diabetes control (expressed by glycated hemoglobin level and % glycaemia in the recommended range) and the results of the questionnaire survey in patients with diabetes. Methods: The data were obtained in a questionnaire survey in the diabetes outpatient department of Mrs. Jitka Kytnarová, MD, Ph.D. at the General University Hospital in Prague and in the diabetes outpatient department of Mrs. Magdalena Kubíková, MD at the Regional Hospital in Liberec. The questionnaire survey involved 36 patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM1). The control group, which was paired by age and gender, also included 36 children and adolescents. Data...

It discusses in more detail the various macronutrients and micronutrients needed during these periods and highlights foods and beverages that are inappropriate. The main aim of the practical part was to determine the dietary habits of women with type 1 diabetes before and during pregnancy and then to compare whether these were modified to diabetes control. Methods: The data for the bachelor thesis were obtained by means of a questionnaire survey conducted from August 2022 to April 2023. Two questionnaires were created in the electronic interface of Google Forms and subsequently offered to patients with type 1 diabetes in the outpatient clinic of the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department of the 1st Faculty of Medicine of the Charles University and the University Hospital. Data from the documentation of...
The effect of nutrition education on type 1 diabetes control
Křesáková, Nikola ; Matoulek, Martin (advisor) ; Mikeš, Ondřej (referee)
Introduction: The global prevalence of type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM1) is increasing, and despite the availability of new and modern treatments, especially in the field of modern technology, it is difficult to achieve optimal diabetes control in many patients. Properly guided and individualized education in insulin therapy, regimen measures and self- monitoring is now considered an essential part of successful treatment of every patient with diabetes. Objective: The aim of this thesis was to evaluate the effect of nutrition education on DM1 compensation using available and collected parameters (HbA1c, TIR, TBR, coefficient of variation, mean glycaemia) and body weight. Method: The study was conducted in a total of 40 selected patients with DM1 of the Diabetology Centre of the 3rd Internal Medicine Clinic of the VFN Prague, who underwent education in the outpatient clinic of a nutritional therapist between January 2020 and January 2022. The effect of nutritional education on parameters of diabetes compensation over a 12-month period was subsequently examined by retrospective analysis. Results: After 12 months, there was a significant improvement in the parameters measured. TIR increased (68 ± 15 % vs. 75 ± 15 %; p<0.0001), other parameters showed a positive decrease - HbA1c (57 ± 11 mmol/mol vs. 50...
Comprehensive evaluation of the occurrence and perception of hypoglycemia in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus
Zadáková, Eliška ; Horová, Eva (advisor) ; Škrha, Jan (referee)
Backround: For many patients with Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), hypoglycemia is a major obstacle to achieving satisfactory compensation. Hypoglycemia unawareness is present in approximately 25 % of patients with T1DM. We use the validated Gold Score and Clarke Score questionnaires in combination with data from continuous (CGM) or instantaneous (FGM) glucose monitoring sensors to assess the perception disorder. Aims: The aim of this diploma thesis was a comprehensive assessment of the occurrence of hypoglycemia unawareness based on the validated Gold Score and Clarke Score questionnaires and the demonstration of the connection between impaired perception of hypoglycemia according to questionnaires and the percentage of time spent in hypoglycemia based on sensor data. Research methodology: In this observational and questionnaire non-interventional study, 73 patients treated with T1DM for more than 12 months and using CGM or FGM (age 41 years  16, duration of T1DM 16.7 years  11, HbA1c 52 mmol/mol  9 ,7) who completed the Gold Score, Clarke Score and HABS questionnaires to supplement the psychological level of the issue. In these patients, data from their sensors was obtained and the parameters such as average glycemia, percentage of time in the range in hypoglycemia (3.9-10 mmol/l), glycemic...
The diet of type 1 diabetics treated with insuline pumps
NOVÁČKOVÁ, Šárka
The bachelor thesis on the topic "Diet of type 1 diabetics treated with insulin pumps" focuses on the differences between the lifestyle of type 1 diabetic treated with a hybrid closed-loop insulin pump and the lifestyle of given type 1 diabetic with a previous method of diabetes compensation. In addition, the thesis examines the differences between the current diet of a diabetic on hybrid closed-loop insulin pump treatment and the nutritional recommendations for a rational diet. For the present bachelor thesis, a qualitative research was chosen and it included 9 respondents with type 1 diabetes treated with a hybrid loop insulin pump. Data was obtained through a semi-structured interview followed by analysis of weekly dietary information provided by each respondent. In the practical part, background information about the respondents is presented. In order to achieve the objectives of the thesis, the differences between the lifestyle and diet of type 1 diabetic with a hybrid loop insulin pump and the lifestyle and diet of that diabetic with previous diabetes treatment are further compared. Subsequently, each respondent's current average daily energy intake was tabulated and their optimal daily energy intake was related to their rational diet. Below the table, the respondent's weekly diet was described and their current energy intake was verbally compared to their calculated optimal daily energy intake. Finally, in the summary of results, I compared some recommendations for rational eating with the respondents' diets. As a result of the bachelor thesis, type 1 diabetics achieve a better quality of life with hybrid loop insulin pump treatment compared to previous diabetes treatment. Regarding the affinity of the rational diet with the current diet of diabetics, the results are different. From the results of the study, we found out that at least one nutritional recommendation for a rational diet matched the current diet of a diabetic.

Diploma thesis Specific needs of a child with diabetes mellitus type 1 at the 1st grade of primary schools is divided into two main parts. The theoretical part deals with diabetes mellitus, its definition and classification. Next, it deals with the chronic disease of type 1 diabetes mellitus, a brief history, basic concepts associated with the disease, epidemiology, symptomatology and others. The core parts are specifics related to diabetes in children, that is followed by the practical part, whose main aim is to identify the specific needs of children with diabetes attending the first grade of selected primary schools. The information from the interviews with parents, pedagogical staff and children with type 1 diabetes mellitus was used in the research. These information aimed to determine parents' satisfaction with the approach of the school, to determine teachers'current knowledge and concerns when educating a pupil with type 1 diabetes mellitus, and then to determine the needs and satisfaction of children with diabetes during their school attendance. All interview responses confirmed the need for an individual approach to children with diabetes on the part of the school, so that pupils can perform their school duties while being supported in the care of their duties. The research found out...
Insulin pump Therapy compared to Insulin Pen Injections in Pregnant Women with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus
Cvejnová, Michaela ; Anderlová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Krejčí, Hana (referee)
Pregnancy in women suffering from type 1 diabetes mellitus is associated with various complications and risks for both the mother and the baby both during pregnancy as well as during the delivery and in the postpartum period. For this reason, it is essential to ensure proper treatment and compensation of the disease. Proper diabetes compensation and treatment of any associated diseases before and during pregnancy is the basis for a successful pregnancy. If possible, pregnancy should be planned to coincide with a period of the best possible diabetes compensation. Treatment of diabetes in pregnancy includes lifestyle modification (diabetic diet and exercise), regular self-monitoring of glycaemia and insulin therapy with insulin pens or an insulin pump. The subject of the thesis is type 1 diabetes mellitus in pregnancy. The aim was to compare the outcomes of treatment with insulin pens vs insulin pump with regard to diabetes compensation, course of pregnancy and delivery and, lastly, foetal complications. The theoretical part of the thesis summarizes current knowledge about type 1 diabetes mellitus in pregnancy. The practical part compares the treatment with insulin pens vs insulin pump. The results are presented in form of statistical analysis of data in women treated with insulin pens or insulin...

Koňařík, Martin ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (referee)
Development of mortality on diabetes mellitus in developed countries, focusing on the Czech Republic Abstract This thesis addresses the development of diabetes mellitus mortality in selected developed countries between 1950 and 2008 and compares this development with the situation in Czechoslovakia, the Czech Republic respectively. This development is analyzed by sex, age and type of diabetes. Furthermore it also deals with diabetes morbidity and the share of diabetes mortality from the total mortality. The main approach used in this thesis is analysis of standardized mortality rates and this analysis was done both for whole long-term time series and time series within each International Classification of Diseases for individual countries. Based on the results, it was found that the development of diabetes mellitus mortality was similar across selected countries. It could be divided into several phases. Differentiation between mortality rates of males and females that occurred during reference period was so significant that mortality rates of females which were always higher had dropped below the rates of males. This effect is called in this thesis as a transition from higher female mortality to higher male mortality and it occurred in different countries at different times and also had variable-length...
