Eating disorders in pediatric patiens with type 1 diabetes mellitus
Jodasová, Daniela ; Floriánková, Marcela (advisor) ; Kosheleva, Svetlana (referee)
English abstract: Aim: The primary objective of my bachelor thesis was to find out, what proportion of pediatric patients with type 1 diabetes have an increased risk of developing an eating disorder according to a standardized specialized questionnaire. Another aim of the work was to compare, whether the scores of these patients in the SCOFF questionnaire differ significantly, compared to their peers without diabetes. The secondary objectives were to determine, whether anthropometric data of patients and children from the control group correlated with the level of risk of eating disorder according to questionnaires and whether there is a correlation between the rate of diabetes control (expressed by glycated hemoglobin level and % glycaemia in the recommended range) and the results of the questionnaire survey in patients with diabetes. Methods: The data were obtained in a questionnaire survey in the diabetes outpatient department of Mrs. Jitka Kytnarová, MD, Ph.D. at the General University Hospital in Prague and in the diabetes outpatient department of Mrs. Magdalena Kubíková, MD at the Regional Hospital in Liberec. The questionnaire survey involved 36 patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM1). The control group, which was paired by age and gender, also included 36 children and adolescents. Data...
Eating disorders in children before starting school
Zdeňková Kroužková, Pavlína ; Floriánková, Marcela (advisor) ; Kosheleva, Svetlana (referee)
Introduction: We have still too little information on the diagnostic, therapeutic procedures and nutritional risks of eating disorders in preschool children. Picky or evasive eating behavior can significantly affect the health and quality of life not only of the child, but also of his parents. Aim: The aim of this thesis was to identify possible risk factors that contribute to the development of eating disorders in preschool children. Methods: This is a questionnaire-type research work, carried out on individual cases, in which 21 preschool children with a psychiatrist-confirmed eating disorder were followed and then compared with a group of healthy children, paired by age and gender. The results were statistically processed in the STATISTIKA 12 software and MS EXCEL. Sample: The research group consisted of 21 children with eating disorders, a control group of 22 healthy children, paired by age and gender with the research group. Participants were selected using a simple deliberate selection based on availability and voluntariness. Results: The most significant risk factors, that may contribute to eating disorders (ED) in preschool children, were shorter period of exclusive breastfeeding, lower maternal weight gain during pregnancy, and psychiatric illness in the family. Mothers of children with ED...

Breastfeeding women's awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding
Poukarová, Hana ; Matulová, Martina (advisor) ; Floriánková, Marcela (referee)
The aim of the present study is to determine the level of awareness of breastfeeding benefits among breastfeeding women. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part describes the history of breastfeeding, the composition of breast milk, prerequisites for successful breastfeeding and contraindications to breastfeeding. Furthermore, the benefits of breastfeeding for the child and the mother are discussed, together with factors affecting breastfeeding. In addition, the availability of information on breastfeeding in the Czech Republic is also briefly mentioned. In the practical part of my thesis, I used a method of quantitative research - specifically, an anonymous non-standardized questionnaire of my own design that was distributed to breastfeeding women. I based the questionnaire on the predetermined objectives and research questions. I chose the PAPI (paper and pen interviewing) survey method and used basic descriptive statistical methods (namely, absolute and relative frequencies) to interpret the results. The aim of the study was to determine breastfeeding women's awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding for both the baby and the mother and also to identify the most commonly utilized sources of information about breastfeeding. The research was carried out in...
Calcium intake in patients with disorders beta oxidation fatty acids with long chain.
Ondrová, Ellen ; Floriánková, Marcela (advisor) ; Ješina, Pavel (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with rare hereditary metabolic disorders, LCHAD (long chain 3- hydroxyacyl-coenzyme A dehydrogenase) deficiency and MTP (mitochondrial trifunctional protein) or TFP (trifunctional protein) deficiency. Deficiencies of these enzymes cause a disturbance in the cycle of β-oxidation of long-chain fatty acids. The basis of treatment for these disorders are dietary and regimen measures. The main goal of the bachelor's thesis was to determine the level of compliance in dietary and regimen measures and calcium intake in patients with LCHAD/MTP deficiency. The theoretical part first describes hereditary metabolic disorders as a large heterogene- ous group of serious hereditary disorders, some of which occur rarely. These rare diseases include LCHAD/MTP deficiency. First, general findings of hereditary metabolic disorders, their history, occurrence, heredity, pathogenesis, diagnosis, clinical manifestations and treatment, are briefly summarized. Furthermore, the theoretical part of the thesis deals with fatty acids as a nutrient, which plays a crucial role in the diet of a patient with LCHAD/MTP deficiency, as well as the β-oxidation process, which is disrupted in these de- ficiencies. The main part of this thesis is devoted to the disease itself, the LCHAD/MTP de- ficiency. It...

Šimková, Kateřina ; Floriánková, Marcela (advisor) ; Hrnčířová, Dana (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with the subject of infant and toddler nutrition. These stages of child development correspond to the period from birth to age three, and the establishment of healthy nutrition and eating habits is fundamental, because it may have a lifelong impact. The practical part of this thesis aimed to examine the compliance of parents with guidelines on breast-feeding and the introduction of complementary feeding, to determine toddlers' actual intake of calories and macronutrients, and to assess the frequency of consummation and amounts of sweet foods and drinks. Based on this data, it was tested whether the intake of calories, macronutrients and sugar had an influence on the body mass index (BMI) or weight-for-length ratio. The information was collected using a questionnaire filled by parents of 22 children hospitalized in the Department of Paediatrics and Inherited Metabolic Disorders of the First Faculty of Medicine of Charles University and the General University Hospital in Prague. The results showed that the majority of parents followed the guidelines in the length of exclusive breast-feeding and a period of introduction of complementary feeding. The dietary records revealed that almost all toddlers involved in this study had an excessive intake of proteins and sugars....
