81 Political trials of the 1950s - a concrete case study (The Babice Case) Abstract The subject of the thesis "Political Trials of the 1950s - a Specific Case Study", subtitled The Babice Case, was a description of the application of the general tools of political persecution used in the Czechoslovak Republic in the 1950s to the specific case of the shooting at the Babice school and the subsequent political trials. Also significant is the aim of placing the political trials in Czechoslovakia in the context of the times and the international political situation, which played an important role in the Babice case. The first chapter of the thesis formulates the aims of the thesis and the background on which it is based. The second chapter of the thesis describes the significance of the political processes and the general background of their organisation. An important part of Chapter 2 of the thesis is a description of the legal framework for the conduct of political trials, focusing both on substantive aspects, such as the newly defined offences, and on procedural issues, especially the limitations on the rights of the accused. The thesis is grounded in available archival materials, primarily from the State Regional Archive in Třeboň, as well as specialist literature.

Visual Art in the Housing Estates of Brno (1945–1989)

With special attention being paid to the development in the city of Brno, the dissertation focuses on the issue of applying artworks in Czechoslovak architecture after World War II. The main research questions – Why were in Czechoslovakia after 1945 artworks again integrated in architecture and what strategies were applied in the case of the newly built housing estates in the city of Brno? – are answered in two successive sections. First, the institutional background for application of art in architecture in the light of the events in Brno (1945–1993) is examined; the closing part is devoted to three case studies that illustrate local development in the period of socialist realism, creative release of the1960s and political normalization. The aim is to highlight the complexity of the examined subject and refute a popularly handed down conviction that integration of artworks into architecture in the period of socialism was motivated exclusively by the communist propaganda, and to show that the attempts to create a synthesis of art and architecture were also based both on earlier theoretical considerations about the educational function of art and its effect on humans and the need to improve poor economic situation of artists after World War II.

ODA as an actor in the formation of the right and Czech conservatism

The aim of this thesis will be to characterize the formation of Czech conservative and rightwing thinking in political practice, which seemed to be something completely unimaginable in the communist environment of the time. Although the roots of Anglo-Saxon conservatism go back to the 18th century, it is difficult to define it as a modern ideology at this time. Its meaning has evolved and changed over time, but in some ways it could be said that the basic principles of conservatism have survived to this day. In this thesis, I will primarily reflect on values such as freedom, equality, property, tradition and morality because it is these values that the ODA, as the primary actor with which this thesis is primarily concerned, drew upon in a society shaped by communism and the vision of socialism as the only possible path for the emergence of rightwing politics.

Postmodern Philosophy and its Influence in Russia

The first part of this thesis describes the development of philosophy in Russia up to the so- called diamat, that is, to the period of Lenin's philosophy of dialectical materialism. In the second part it is described postmodern issues in contemporary Western thought, including the contexts in historical development. The last part deals first with the general features of Russian postmodern thought. Next part of the last chapter deals in more detail with the thought of M. N. Epstein and his view of the development and state of postmodern thought in Russia. Russian thought was marked by a long isolation from Western thought. In an effort to quickly catch up with the West, features of messianism are emerging. Russia is convinced that the West will quickly catch up and has the potential to overtake the West and become the thought leader of Europe. Said leads to the acceptance of the idea of communism and the subsequent further isolation of Russia. Nevertheless, in 1991 is rapidly coming to terms with postmodern thinking. M. N. Epstein concludes from this that there are identical features in communist ideology with postmodern thought, and therefore it was postmodernism in Russia much earlier than in Europe. The influence of the Second Vatican Council on the Church's attitude to the world. Illustration on the theology of church history in the Czech lands during communism

The dissertation deals with impact of Second Vatican Council in attitude of the Catholic Church to World and it is illustrated in life of the Church in Czech countries in the course of communistic period, because of marginal differances between Church and World. Read the sings of times and aggiornamento are key concepts of Second Vatican Council. Main source are documents of Council and works dedicated to Second Vatican Council, what give us the most comprehensive information. Situation of the Church in the Czech countries from the point of view of systém of government, what effort to eliminate the Church, and response of the Church to it, what impacted reception of Second Vatican Council, and it is illustrated in thematic works and contemporary witness of communist regime. Generaly impact of Second Vatican Council find to reflection directed to situation of the Church and society and the ways, what Church choices for spreading of Gospel. In the Czech countries the Second Vatican Council encourage catholics to be active and take responsibility for civic society.

Show trial Veselý and others

Bachelor thesis is about one of the largest show trials in Moravia, which happened between the 7th and 11th February 1950. Its goal is to discover the reason behind accusing these people and how it was related to their political affiliation. It also explores the investigation and the trial as a whole. The work also investigates how the show trial was shown in the newspapers and how the media tried to influence the public. An important goal is also to analyze the features that this show trial has in common with other show trials of this period in Czechoslovakia. The most significant part of the work is devoted to the analysis and interpretation of archival materials available for this show trial.
