Omcirk, Dan ; Tufano, James Joseph (advisor) ; Reguli, Zdenko (referee) ; Fernandes, John (referee)
Title: Evaluating Methods of Assessing Force and Velocity during Punching Specific Movements Objectives: This dissertation had three main objectives: 1. To determine the ability of different commercially available punch trackers (Corner, Everlast, and Hykso) to recognize specific punch types (lead and rear straight punches, lead and rear hooks, and lead and rear uppercuts) thrown by trained and untrained punchers. 2. To determine the validity of three commercially available punch trackers (Corner, Hykso, and StrikeTec) for monitoring punch velocity and force during rear straight punches, rear hooks, and rear uppercuts performed at lower and higher intensities by trained and untrained punchers. 3. To determine the reliability and load-velocity profiles of three different landmine punch throw variations (seated without trunk rotation [LPwo], seated with trunk rotation [LPw], and standing whole body [LP]) with different loads (20.0 kg, 22.5 kg, and 25.0 kg), all with the dominant (DH) and non-dominant hand (NH). Methods: Due to three independent studies in this dissertation, the methods are divided into three sections, each connected to the objectives mentioned above: 1. Ten trained and 11 untrained punchers different punch combinations, and punch trackers data were compared to data from video...
Motivational structure of selected population groups for combat sports
Sýkora, Jan ; Dlouhý, Martin (advisor) ; Kašpar, Ladislav (referee)
This master's thesis primarily focuses on the investigation and analysis of motivational structures among selected population groups in relation to combat sports. The theoretical part of the thesis delves into a more detailed examination of the nature and classification of motivation. It also provides an analysis of personality in sports and performance motivation, contributing to the understanding of internal factors influencing individual motivation. Within the theoretical overview, a brief history of karate, judo, aikido, wrestling, and mixed martial arts (MMA) is presented. Additionally, readers are introduced to combat sports, martial arts, and the categorization of combat disciplines. This introductory perspective is crucial for better contextualization of motivation within these specific domains. In the practical part, a quantitative research approach was employed, utilizing the multidimensional questionnaire Sport Motivation Scale (SMS-28). This questionnaire is widely recognized as one of the most extensively used diagnostic tools in the field of sports. With the assistance of the SMS-28 questionnaire and my own custom questionnaire, responses from participants were collected, subsequently analyzed, and served as a source of information for the research questions of this thesis. Hrdlička, Jaroslav ; Pavelka, Radim (advisor) ; Harsa, Pavel (referee)
Title: The Impact of Body Weight Manipulation on Cognitive Performance and Present Psychological State in Combat Sports Objectives: The main objective of this diploma thesis is to investigate how Rapid Weight Loss (RWL) and subsequent Rapid Weight Gain (RWG) affect the cognitive performance and psychological state of combat sports athletes. A secondary objective is to examine the effects of these practices on body composition and, in the case of RWL, the effects on Urine Specific Gravity (USG). Methods: General information regarding pre-competition body weight manipulation experiences was obtained from 19 combat sports athletes who underwent weight reduction over a period of 7 days, followed by a 2-hour recovery period. Cognitive performance was assessed through various tests (simple reaction time test, choice reaction time test, and DSST) before and after RWL, and after RWG. Psychological state was assessed using standardized questionnaires (BRUMS and PANAS) before, during and after RWL, and after RWG. During RWL, USG and the methods used for RWL were also monitored. Results: The athletes reduced their body weight by 4.9% and subsequently regained 2.6% of body weight. RWL significantly impaired simple reaction time by 5.6% (16 ms). RWL also resulted in a statistically significant deterioration of...

Klepetko, Vít ; Majorová, Simona (advisor) ; Nováková, Pavlína (referee)
Title: Cold in combat sports with a focus on Muay Thai Objectives: Based on a review of the scientific literature, determine the effect of cold on markers of muscle damage (CK and LDH) and physical performance, in combat sports training, with a focus on Thai boxing. Methods: The presented study is processed in the form of systematic research. Scientific databases Scopus, PubMed, SportDISCUS and Web of Science were used to search for studies. Using appropriately chosen keywords, a search script was created that retrieved a total of 61 studies. Subsequently, an analysis of the studies searched by the script and their selection using the established criteria was carried out. A total of 9 studies were selected, which were used to fulfill the objective of the study. Results: The results of the influence of a cold environment on the level of CK in the blood have not been clearly determined. More clear results were obtained by comparing the values of the LDH level in the blood, presented by selected studies. In most studies, there was a reduction in LDH blood levels after the intervention and none of them had negative effects. A decrease in performance was found immediately after the intervention, with a recovery to baseline values after 24 h. Greater consistency in the performance of the CWI group than...

Pre-competition reduction of body weight in MMA
Hrdlička, Jaroslav ; Coufalová, Klára (advisor) ; Pavelka, Radim (referee)
Title: Pre-competition reduction of body weight in MMA Objectives: The main aim of this work was to identify what weight reduction methods are used by professional MMA fighters and how many kilograms they reduce before fights. We also wanted to determine the time they start to work with their body weight and whether they feel any psychological changes or fatigue due to weight reduction. We were also interested in what supplements fighters use during weight cut. Methods: A survey method was used for data collection. The research sample consisted of 20 professional MMA fighters between the ages of 18 and 40. Results: We have found out that MMA fighters usually reduce their weight through reduced caloric intake and subsequent dehydration the most. The majority of respondents reported a reduction of 6 to 10 kilograms in the course of 2 to 4 weeks before the fight. Respondents feel weakened during weight loss and experience psychological impacts such as irritation, mood swings, aggression and sedation. Before the fight, 60% of fighters do not experience any signs of weakness, as the time period from weighting to the fight itself is sufficient to allow them to regenerate. The most commonly used supplements during weight loss are BCAAs, fat burners, proteins, multivitamins and multiminerals. Keywords:...

Title: The use of gymnastic ball in combat sport. Objective: The aim of this work is to create a stack of exercises for martial arts wrestlers usable for training and improvement of movement on the ground. The exercises used use a gymnastic ball, which replaces the absence of a sparring partner. The partial aim of the thesis is to find out the difficulty of the proposed exercises based on the respondents' subjective perception. Methods: Based on a long-term observation of martial arts training in conjunction with professional resources dealing with the issue, gymnastic ball exercises were profiled. There were 18 respondents who distinguished the difficulty of the 8 selected exercises. A 10-point Borg Scale was used to evaluate the difficulty, which records the individual perception of the effort required to perform the exercise. Results: The result of the work is a set of exercises on the gymnastic ball suitable for training fight positions and situations for combat on the ground. Furthermore, individual evaluation of the difficulty of selected exercises wrestlers combat sports. The exercises were evaluated by the respondents from simple ones, such as the "Shifting feet while lying on belly" exercise to very demanding "Kneeling on one leg" exercises. The overall assessment suggests that the...
