High Level Analysis of the Psychotherapy Sessions

This work focuses on analyzing psychotherapy sessions within the DeePsy research project. This work aims to design and develop features that model the session dynamics, which can reveal seemingly subtle nuances. The mentioned features are automatically extracted from the source recording using neural networks. They are further processed, compared across sessions, and displayed graphically, creating a document that acts as a feedback document about the session for the therapist. Furthermore, this assistive tool can help therapists to professionally grow and to provide better psychotherapy in the future. A relative improvement in voice activity detection of 37.82% was achieved. The VBx diarization system was generalized to converge to two speakers with a minimum relative error rate degradation of 0.66%. An automatic speech recognition system has been trained with a 17.06% relative improvement over the best available hybrid model. Models for sentiment classification, type of therapeutic interventions, and overlapping speech detection were also trained.

Toby's Room by Pat Barker - the translation and stylistic analysis of three chapters of the novel

The main aim of this bachelor thesis is to point out the most frequent problems the translators tackle during the translation from the English to the Czech language. This work is divided into two parts. The first one involves my translation of the first three chapters of the novel Toby's Room written by the English author Pat Barker. The second section, the theoretical one, is devoted to the analysis of the translation and particularly to the most common translation difficulties springing from morphological, syntactic and stylistic differences between the two languages mentioned above. The analysis of this part is based on the quotes from the theoretical literature, especially from works by J. Levý, Z. Kuffnerová and D. Knittlová, and shows to what extent the first part of the work follows the translation methods recommended by these authors.

Translation and Stylistic Analysis of One Chapter of Casualties of Peace by Edna O'Brien

This bachelor thesis focuses on difficulties encountered when translating English fiction into Czech. It is divided into two sections. The practical part provides the translation of one chapter of the novel Casualties of Peace written by an Irish author Edna O'Brien in 1966. The theoretical part delivers the stylistic analysis including choice of register, morphological, lexical, syntactic and pragmatic aspects. Each of them is illustrated with the commented examples based on theoretical background from works by Jiří Levý, Dagmar Knittlová and Olga Krijtová.

This bachelor thesis is focused on the translation and subsequent stylistic analysis of two chapters from the novel Limitless by Alan Glynn. The main aim of the thesis is to demonstrate certain problems one may encounter while translating fiction from the English language to the Czech language. The thesis consists of two main parts. The practical part features the translation of selected chapters of the novel, whereas the theoretical part is divided into four units and explores selected issues accompanying the translation process.

The second, theoretical part is formed by a stylistic analysis of this translation. This part is further divided into multiple sections dealing with the morphological, lexical and the syntactical level of the two languages. The most developed level of these three is the lexical one since it was the most challenging issue that had to be dealt with. Both Czech and English source books formed the basis for the theoretical part. The authors of the prominent publications were for instance Dagmar Knittlová, Jiří Levý, and Peter Newmark.

Lenka Mundevová Translation of Colloquial Language Devices in Fiction: A Century of Maupassant's Ivrogne in Czech Translation Abstract The dissertation compares the stylization of the dialogues in the French original of Maupassant's short story Ivrogne (The Drunkard), written in 1884, with five Czech translations published between 1902 and 1997. The comparative analysis is focused on the devices of colloquial language, including dialect, which appear frequently in the dialogues of the story and prove to be extraordinarily useful when interpreting Maupassant's text. The analysis of the excerpted material is preceded by the description of the basic characteristics of colloquial French and Czech, followed by the description of their stratifications. The mutual relation of the colloquial language varieties is an important prerequisite for the evaluation of the translations of colloquial language devices and their appropriateness in the individual Czech versions of Ivrogne. The paper also deals with the development of Czech aesthetic translation standards and their relation to the standard of local fiction, outlining the important tendencies of Czech fiction translation applied when colloquial devices were conveyed from French to Czech during the specified timeframe.
