The main aim of this bachelor thesis is to point out the most frequent problems the translators tackle during the translation from the English to the Czech language. This work is divided into two parts. The first one involves my translation of the first three chapters of the novel Toby's Room written by the English author Pat Barker. The second section, the theoretical one, is devoted to the analysis of the translation and particularly to the most common translation difficulties springing from morphological, syntactic and stylistic differences between the two languages mentioned above. The analysis of this part is based on the quotes from the theoretical literature, especially from works by J. Levý, Z. Kuffnerová and D. Knittlová, and shows to what extent the first part of the work follows the translation methods recommended by these authors. Hlavním cílem této bakalářské práce je poukázat na nejčastější problémy, se kterými se potýkají překladatelé z anglického do českého jazyka. Práce je rozdělena do dvou částí. První část zahrnuje vlastní překlad prvních tří kapitol románu anglické autorky Pat Barkerové Toby's Room. Druhá část, zabývající se teorií, je věnována analýze překladu a to zejména řešení nejčastějších překladatelských problémů, které vyplývají z morfologických, syntaktických a stylistických odlišností obou zmíněných jazyků. Analýza této části je založena na citacích z teoretické literatury, především z prací J. Levého, Z. Kufnerové a D. Knittlové, a ukazuje, do jaké míry první část práce respektuje překladatelské postupy doporučené těmito autory.
