This thesis called 'Socio-Pedagogical Assistance to Partially-Autonomous Patients and to Their Families" (as conducted at GARC Kladno, s.r.o.). aims to map the health and social situation of partially-autonomous patients (hereafter PAP) as a result of a chronic condition, a disability or geriatric conditions in the context of their actual living environment. The theoretical part deals with health and social challenges confronted by PAP focusing on social and individual rehabilitation in conducting daily life. It is divided into five parts. Part One describes health issues faced by PAP with emphasis on particular issues which affect this group. Part Two defines the basic terminology of disability and autonomy.Through work experience it was possible to provide first-hand observation of particular issues which affect this group, e.g. physical disability as a factor limiting autonomy. Both subjective and objective observations of this group can weigh heavily on the value of the outcome. Orthorexia as a new addiction: a case study
Roztočilová, Dominika ; Vacek, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Svěcená, Kateřina (referee)
Background: In recent years, with the development of mass media, new concepts have emerged and often also referred to as "modern" addiction. Specifically, the concept of orth- orexia nervosa, which came in 1997 by American physician Steven Bratman, is now arous- ing interest among many experts. Many of them discuss whether to include this term in eat- ing disorders or other disorders, or to give it a separate place in classification systems. However, orthorexia has many similarities with addictive behaviour, and that is why I chosed this topic of bachelor thesis. Aims: My thesis actually focuses on the description of orthorexia from the perspective off addictive behaviour. It aims to map similar etiopathogenetic mechanisms involved in both disorders. Therefore the research objective is to describe the similarities between orth- orexia and addictive behaviour with a focus on risk factors from bio-psycho-social per- spectives. The work also deals with finding similarities in the process, diagnosis and treat- ment of the disease. In particular, biological, psychological and social factors related to the above-mentioned risk behaviour are monitored. Methods: Given the choice of case study, the thesis is based on qualitative research meth- ods. The research group consists of one respondent who is...
"Just let it be a healthy child!": Parenting in the Context of Caring of a Child with a Chronic Illlness
Tampierová, Lenka ; Sokolová, Věra (advisor) ; Ezzeddine, Petra (referee)
My diploma thesis deals with issues of gender relations and the construction of identities of lived experiences of parents caring for a child (children) with a chronic illness. For my qualitative research, I have chosen the method of semi-structured interviews with both parents of the child (children). Subsequent analysis of the data in this empirical study examines the way in which care for a child with chronic illness affects, due to its demanding character, gender relations and whether it leads to more balanced gender relations or vice versa. I also deal with the process of identifying both parents in the day care of a child with chronic illness in the context of a combination of paid work and home care and children. In my work, I see how my communication partners are conceptualizing the chronic illness of the child as a differentness and the care of a child with a chronic illness as a burden. I focus on the emotional plane of parenthood and also analyze the processes of negotiation within different institutions (health and education organizations, state authorities). Key words: Chronic illness, child, parenthood, differentness, burden, care, gender relations

Life with HIV/AIDS: A Narrative Construction of Identity
Miott, Jana ; Morávek, Jan (advisor) ; Kotík, Michal (referee)
HIV/AIDS is an illness that is more correlated than any other with high rates of stigmatization and discrimination. People diagnosed with this illness have to cope with a new potentially life threatning situation and stigmatized identity. Common social interactions or heath complications become a potential source of confrontation, which can endanger social relations, or damage and spoil the identity of people living with HIV/AIDS. This study jointly analyzes the concept of social and health risks, stigmatization and identity and focuses on the following: 1) The process of coping with the diagnosis and its impact on the identity and everyday life of people living with HIV/AIDS 2) The role of accessible social networks on the coping process with this illness and stigmatization; and 3) The strategies of health and social risk management used in connection with this illness. Awareness and acquisition of information on HIV/AIDS plays an important role in overcomming the initial shock of the diagnosis and coping with the disease. Thanks to the support of social networks, the diagnosed person can reach much easier and faster the so called "rational approach" to the illness and safely awknowledge and accept HIV/AIDS as a part of his or her life. People living with HIV/AIDS also face many risks. In this...
