Popularization of science in Czech audiovisual media with focus on astronautics

This thesis deals with the topic of processing and popularization of science, namely the field of cosmonautics within the context of the Czech audiovisual media. The first aim of the thesis is to critically analyze the content of selected episodes broadcasted on a science-popular program within the course of the years of 2021-2022. The second aim is to evaluate the use of popularization elements within the selected episodes through an application of suitable comparative methods. The dissertation is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. In the theoretical part of the work, a research was conducted based on Czech and foreign professional literature, with the aim of mapping and describing different approaches to the popularization of science in the media. This has been done by defining the terms science, mass media, scientific journalism and popularization of science within this context. An extensive part of the research is organized in a chronological fashion, encompassing the development and evolution of Czech scientific journalism, with its beginnings in the second half of the 19th century to the present day. Media in life of a preschool child

This bachelor's thesis deals with the topic of the influence of media on preschool children. The aim of the thesis is to find out how preschool children are influenced by media what media they use, what programs they watch on TV, what online games they play and what other activities they use the media for. The partial goal is to find out whether parents read children's books or buy children's magazines to their children, and whether topics from the media penetrate into children's games. The theoretical part of the bachelor's thesis contains chapters on the interpretation of the term medium, its history and classification. It describes the development of a preschool child and the relationship between the media and their use by preschool children. The practical part presents the results of mixed research, the methods used are an interview with preschool children and a questionnaire completed by their parents, the answers of the respondents are subsequently compared. Furthermore, the results of the control group are presented here in graphs, where the respondents are again parents of preschool children.

This thesis entitled "To Be Continued: Fictional Worlds of TV Series" is focused on television series from the perspective of narratology and the theory of fictional worlds. The thesis deals with the concept of the series and its components, with which its creators work. An important part of the thesis is the concept of the fictional world and its construction. The connection of individual episodes of the series differs. It depends on the type of seriality that is used for the series. The text works with many television series of the past and present, with which the individual types of seriality are defined. Like any narrative, the serial consists of individual narrative components, such as a story, individual events, a narrator or characters. What is the difference in series as opposed to the film is shown in examples of various specific fiction series. TV series work with the story to continue in various forms. The thesis deals with series of various genres, lengths and origins. We will also read how the events of the series can be influenced by the viewer himself. This thesis also reflects the changes in seriality today's online world. It mentions the various advantages and disadvantages that we may encounter in today's Internet.
Czech sports television stations on social networks: comparison of private and public service channel

The topic of the thesis is a comparison of Czech public and commercial sports television in the presentation on social networks. The thesis aims to map the current state of social network management of domestic sports televisions, their ambitions and strategies in this dynamically expanding segment. In the diploma thesis, social networks are placed in the context of the use of their potential in the field of sports marketing and their historical development. The main part of the work is focused on defining the correct hypotheses on the basis of which quantitative research is carried out on the Facebook social network. The hypotheses are divided into three main thematic blocks, the quantity of published contributions of individual televisions, their format and thematic focus depending on the telecast of a prominent sporting event are examined in turn. In the next part, the collected data is subjected to analysis. They also aim to support interviews with important representatives of both Czech sports televisions, which are carried out for this work and which are available in the appendices of this thesis. The Economics of Hatred in Reality TV

This diploma thesis deals with the formation of hatred towards the participants of the reality TV shows MasterChef Czechia and Married at First Sight. Specifically, the focus is on whether the shows and the participants in them have the potential to evoke this emotion among their viewers. The theoretical part deals with the relationship between television and the Internet environment, where this emotion can be subsequently stirred up within groups on discussion forums or social networks. It also defines the genre of reality TV into which are the TV shows included, and in the end defines hatred and other emotions that are closely related to it. Based on the findings from the literature, the characteristics that can potentially lead to the emotion under discussion are then identified. These traits are central to the subsequent determination of the research questions. In the research part, one particular series at a time (both were broadcast during 2020) is then qualitatively analysed for both TV shows, also there is the portrayal of all their main participants, with a particular focus on finding defined traits with the potential to provoke hatred. Title: The popularity of ČT sport in comparison with to other television stations Objectives: The main aim of this bachelor thesis is to find out and describe the popularity of the sports station ČT sport in comparison with other television stations. Thesis is aimed at establishing the popularity of this television station of viewers through a questionnaire survey. At the end of the thesis, based on the research, mention possible recommendations. Methods: The marketing research of this thesis has consisted in the use of a quantitative method. For this research of popularity of television channel ČT sport was used a method of electronic inquiry published on the server Survio.com. The theoretical part is based on the literature research. Results: According to the held research, it was found out that in addition to determining the popularity itself, it is very important to take into account how we look at it. The station ČT sport is still pretty popular and well-known among passive sport viewers. The viewers prefer its sports broadcasts also they are satisfied with them. The way CNN Prima News is perceived as a new news channel by the Czech audience

This thesis focuses on the viewer reception of the CNN Prima NEWS news station. The aim of the research is to gain insight into the viewing patterns and routines that are repeated when watching this station. The theoretical part of the thesis defines the main studies on the topic with reference to experts and then introduces the CNN Prima NEWS station along with the viewership data. The next part of the thesis then discusses the methodology that was used for data collection and analysis in this research. The results of the thesis are obtained by using not only the viewership data but also a questionnaire survey and semi-structured interviews with a selected sample of respondents who watch the station. This research was conducted with the respondents in the spring of 2022. The data collected during the research is then analysed and categorized to make the thesis as close to its objective as possible. Several findings have emerged that provide a better understanding of how Czech viewers perceive CNN Prima NEWS. The thesis also includes appendices with the results of the questionnaire survey and transcripts of semi-structured interviews.
The image of a socialist citizen in the normalization series of Czechoslovak television

This diploma thesis tackles selected series of Czechoslovak Television from the normalization era. Series are examined on the basis of predefined categories. In this work, the author focuses on the everyday life of the main characters. We can classify the categories into two types - the personal and professional lives of the main characters are mainly examined. During the period of normalization, television viewers were exposed to everyday propaganda, which also became part of television production. In drama gendre, the protagonists of the series were to present patterns of behavior for the average socialist citizen. For this research were selected following series from normalization era: Muž na radnici (1976), Žena za pultem (1977), Nemocnice na kraji města (1978 and 1981) and Iženýrská odysea (1979). The author first introduces the reader to the historical context that is important for this topic. The analytical part of the work deals with the description and analysis of individual series and is answering to research questions. The reality of series is presented and than confronted with the reality of normalization era. The depiction of Czechoslovakia in the years 1989 - 1990 through the eyes of viewers in the television series Vyprávěj

The bachelor thesis entitled "The depiction of Czechoslovakia in the years 1989 - 1990 through the eyes of viewers in the television series Vyprávěj" deals with the question of how the perception of the portrayal of a particular stage of contemporary history (the November Revolution of 1989 and the social events of the early 1990s) in the series differs between two different groups of viewers, the memorials and the non-memorials. The thesis consists of pilot research conducted with two respondents, each representing one of the two audience groups. Their experience of watching and perceiving the series is explored through a semi-structured interview method with predetermined thematic headings. On a theoretical level, the thesis explores how the format of the series: the memory medium, utilizes concepts of nostalgia along with cultural and communicative memory, while considering account the specificities of post-television audiences. Furthermore it describes the relation between memory and history, as well as presenting the specific importance of the period 1989-1990 in modern Czechoslovak and Czech history.
