Well-being, methods of measuring well-being and their practical application
Kosková, Kateřina ; Kočí, Jana (advisor) ; Váchová, Alena (referee)
This thesis explores the topic of well-being in university students and related subjects, such as positive psychology, quality of life, and happiness. It introduces readers to the possible approaches of this concept and attempts to clearly define it's direction and purpose. One of the most well-known contemporary studies in this field is the Theory of Well-Being by American psychologist M. Seligman, through which the PERMA model was introduced. The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to measure well-being in a randomly selected group of university students using a questionnaire survey method. Translated PERMA™ model questionnaire enriched with 4 additional questions and a questionnaire from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development were used to obtain the data. The theoretical part also introduces research questions, which are subsequently answered in discussion based on the analysis and summary of individual data.
Impact of socioeconomic and social factors on subjective well-being among Czech population
Tmějová, Kateřina ; Lustigová, Michala (advisor) ; Hanzlová, Radka (referee)
The main concern of this thesis is the impact of selected socioeconomic and social factors on subjective well-being of individuals in the Czech population. This thesis thus explains and describes the concept of well-being and summarizes the factors that can influence it. Using data from survey EU-SILC 2018 of Czechia, the effect of selected socioeconomic and social factors on the level of well-being of an individual is analysed using a multinomial logistic regression method. Both individually and when all selected factors interact. The analysis found that the level of education, the level of income and the quality of housing of an individual significantly affect the level of life satisfaction. The significant effect of an individual's social ties on the level of life satisfaction was found to be the most significant when socioeconomic and social factors impacted on the level of life satisfaction. Another objective was to analyse the relationship between an individual's life satisfaction and self-rated health. This relationship was found to be reciprocal, meaning that the level of life satisfaction of an individual has an impact on his subjective health evaluation and vice versa. The thesis also compares the prevalence of life satisfaction of the Czech population with other populations that also...

Activities supporting well-being of university teachers
Buchtele, Monika ; Kočí, Jana (advisor) ; Syřiště, Ivo (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the topic of well-being and well-being of university teachers. This topic is still not as common and popular in the Czech Republic as it is in the USA, for example. After distance learning in Czech schools, more and more people started talking and writing about the well-being of pupils and students, but teachers, especially university ones, are still forgotten. The aim of this thesis is to verify the functionality of evidence-based activities for university teachers that have a positive effect on their well-being. The theoretical part deals with health, well-being and factors influencing well-being. It also deals with the topic of quality of life. Finally, the theoretical part deals with selected problems of the teaching profession, both in general and with a direct focus on university teachers, whose well-being may be affected negatively. The practical part deals with mixed methods design, which aimed to determine the functionality of selected activities. The first part presents the research process, research sample, questionnaire survey and individual selected activities that were included in the research. The second and main part includes case studies of participants who eventually participated in the research. Six university teachers, mostly from the Faculty of...
The importance of income on subjective well-being
Sedlář, Jan ; Baxa, Jaromír (advisor) ; Skuhrovec, Jiří (referee)
1 Abstract My Bachelor thesis deals in a comprehensive way with the discussion unleashed by the publication of the Easterlin's article which called attention to more complex relations between the absolute level of income and the subjective well-being than the economic theory would ever assume . There is the literature shown which finds the explanation why the relation - the absolute level of income and the subjective well-being - does not hold without exceptions. A special attention is devoted to the human behaviour: comparison of the individual's situation with the situation of his reference group, comparison of the individual's situation with the situation he was accustomed to in the past, the individual's adaptation to the new situation and change of his aspiration and on the overvaluation of the benefits from the achieved goal. The first characteristic is tested experimentally with use of the analogy: the income as the evaluation of the job performance, the mark as the evaluation of the student. The experiment did not prove that the comparison of the student with his reference group would have the influence on his own performance. The second part of my thesis is focused on the description of the relationship between the gross national income per capita and the satisfaction of the inhabitants from the...

Life Satisfaction and Acculturation among Immigrants in the Czech Republic
Gembčíková, Sandra ; Šulová, Lenka (advisor) ; Štětovská, Iva (referee)
This master thesis is dedicated to an acculturation process and its relations to life satisfaction. In the theoretical part the concept of acculturation is presented and conceived as changes accompanying migration to a foreign country. Different acculturation strategies are described, as well as some of the factors that affect influence the complex process of acculturation. One of the chapters is dedicated to a Czech milieu and its legislative and social conditions for immigration, and describing two main third country migrant populations - Ukrainians and Vietnamese. Theoretical part is wrapped up with an introduction to subjective well-being and life satisfaction, with a focus on intercultural context. The empirical part consists of a description and results of a quantitative questionnaire survey among immigrants originally from Vietnam and Ukraine (N = 162) and it is based on Acculturation Scale (Cortés, Rogler, Malgady, 1994), Satisfaction With Life Scale (Diener, Emmons, Larsen, Griffin, 1985) and Bicultural Identity Integration Scale (Chen, Benet-Martínez, Bond, 2008). Most of the respondents adopted integration strategy, however there wasn't a significant difference in life satisfaction among acculturation strategies. The data analysis found several significant variables which participate on...
Cross-Country Analysis of Life Satisfaction
Stehlíková, Zuzana ; Janhuba, Radek (advisor) ; Paulus, Michal (referee)
This thesis examines the relations between subjective well-being and economic, politic and social characteristics of individual countries. We study the link between three components of subjective well-being - life satisfaction, positive affect and negative affect and other country characteristics. First, we use the dataset containing countries from almost all countries of the whole world and then with a more detailed European dataset. For the analysis of life satisfaction, panel data models are used. The results indicate that we are able to explain better variation in life satisfaction by our set of explanatory variables in comparison with positive affect and negative affect. In the former dataset, we discovered that the most important determinants of life satisfaction are GDP per capita, health, freedom to make life choices, political conditions and social support. In the latter, European dataset revealed a strong negative correlation between tertiary education attainment and happiness. The results also indicate that female representation in national parliament is an important predictor of life satisfaction in European countries. This supports the idea that equality between men and women plays an important role in developed societies. Keywords Subjective well-being, Happiness, Life satisfaction,...
Gender Differences in Life Satisfaction
Tolnykina, Anastasiia ; Pertold-Gebicka, Barbara (advisor) ; Chadimová, Kateřina (referee)
What is happiness? This question has been asked by people throughout the entire existence of mankind. Initially, this problem was considered by philosophers who studied it from different perspectives. To date, identifying the sources of happiness and their dependence on external factors has not lost its relevance. Conversely, it became deeper, since economists have also joined in the study of this issue. A number of new approaches to the analysis of the level of happiness has appeared, and the research results can have a significant impact on the economic and social policy of countries. My thesis concentrates on gender differences in these measures, which is a topic of interest nowadays. Women's rights have highly improved over recent decades. How has it changed female life satisfaction? Has it somehow affected male happiness? These are the questions I consider in my research.
