Vávra, Martin ; Železný, Jakub (advisor) ; Růžička, Daniel (referee)
The bachelor's thesis titled "The Media Image of State Security in the Rudé právo and Svobodné slovo dailies (November 1989-June 1990)" discusses the media's image of the State Security Organisation (StB) over a period of several months following the events of the 17th of November 1989, when the communist regime in Czechoslovakia fell. The dailies analysed for this study were Rudé právo and Svobodné slovo. The periodicals were selected according to their political orientations. Rudé právo, described as "a paper published by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia", was a daily that officially represented the governing regime. Svobodné slovo, which began publishing the first uncensored information in November 1989 and called the "primary daily" of the Velvet Revolution, was selected as its opposite counterpart. This work has four chapters. The first chapter examines the State Security Organisation and its history, organisational structure, methods and manner of work in 1989. The second chapter presents the selected dailies Rudé právo and Svobodné slovo. The third chapter discusses the methodology of the entire work, and the final chapter contains research on the selected dailies in the form of a quantitative content analysis.

Image of the enemy in the discourse of security forces
Jeřábková, Darina ; Vávra, Martin (advisor) ; Cviklová, Lucie (referee)
The "internal enemy" was a formal term heavily represented in the language of the State Security (a secret service of the Czechoslovak Republic and Czechoslovak Socialist Republic), denoting a specified category of opponents to the then regime. The State Security's task was to protect the socialist and social system by fighting the external and internal enemies, with the security forces having been the authorities deciding who met the criteria. The thesis entitled "The Internal Enemy Image in the Discourse of Security Forces" aims to find out how the discourse of the State Security defined the term "internal enemy". The thesis is divided into the theoretical and empirical parts. The empirical part applies the qualitative analysis of the discourse to search for the characteristic of the term "internal enemy". All of the texts analysed in the thesis come from the Security Services Archive, administering relevant files of the era, and date back to the 1950s-1980s.

Kulová, Sára ; Petruželková, Alena (advisor) ; Vorlíčková, Blanka (referee)
The main goal of this thesis titled Separated libraries - Library of Karel Teige is based on Teige's important life events to pursue his creative activity and to connect it with his personal library. This topic will form the first part of the thesis - split into period of Devetsil and Surrealist group. Action Stones and the stories of witnesses
Ježková, Anna ; Michela, Miroslav (advisor) ; Stehlík, Michal (referee)
(in English) The following Bachelor's thesis deals with emigration attempts of Czechoslovak citizens after 1948. It focuses on those border crossing efforts which were connected to operation "KAMEN" in which the StB (Statni bezpecnost, the civilian state security apparatus), on purpose, provoked citizens who opposed the Communist regime to illegaly cross the border. However, the crossing of the border was only feigned and was fully under the StB control. The StB arrested the participants and persecuted them. The thesis is based on the analysis of interrogation records of the arrested. These records, which are kept in the Archive of Security Services (Archiv bezpečnostních složek), contain thorough biographical information, descriptions of the course of the operation, and reasons which led to the aforementioned border crossing attempts. This thesis contains the description of the course of the crossings and also explains the reasons which people had for the crossing itself - whether their reasons were personal or connected to their opposition of the political situation.

This Master's thesis will look at the Political trials in Czechoslovakia - The case of "Zpěvačka", it will focus on one of the many politically motivated processes that took place in Czechoslovakia during the communist regime, i.e. 1948-1989. The focus of this paper is to analyse the key archival sources, which is now an investigation by the State Security in the case of "Zpěvačka", now stored in the Archive of Security Forces. The trial of the anti-state oriented group of people around Radana Melicharová who were accused of collaborating with foreign intelligence services took place in the spring of 1957. This shows that even the so-called foundation period of the communist regime, the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia continued to implement political processes to control the opposition. This thesis brings the main characters of the process Radana Melicharová et al., describes their illegal activities and analyses the motives of each participants on illegal activities. And also discusses about the main trial itself at the Regional Court in Prague, subsequent appeal trials and the efforts to rehabilitate convicts. Contribution of the work lies in the fact that it complements many previously published scientific studies on the topic of the political process and less known and studied process with a...
"Despite All the Poet Kept Singing..." A Contribution to a Study Dealing with the State Security Police Forces᾽ Approach to Our Folk Scene, as Seen on the Example of Karel Kryl
Stehlíková, Veronika ; Kovář, Martin (advisor) ; Horčička, Václav (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on the State security police forces᾽ approach to Czech folk scene. The first part consists of Karel Kryl᾽s biography, great emphasis is placed also on his literary work. The second part discusses the folk scene in Czechoslovakia from 60s to 80s, including the State security police forces᾽ approach. Specifically not only Karel Kryl but also Jiří Pallas, Jaroslav Hutka, Vlastimil Třešňák and Vladimír Merta are presented based on the materials kept in the Security Services Archive. The thesis shows that the State security police forces᾽ approach was not unified, even though some common things can be found. In case of Karel Kryl living in exile the technique was reduced to intervention against his work. In case of the folk singers living at home State security police tried to reduce or completely terminate their public actions, most often doing so by controlling and cancelling their concerts. The main conclusion of the thesis is that they were not very successful at this effort, because most of their energy was devoted to persecuting the signatories of Charter 77. Strong actions were taken against the folk singers, who signed it as well. The contribution of this thesis is based on working with archival materials that practically have not yet been used in the specialized literature.
