Support provided by a social worker in the treatment of children with eating disorders

This Bachelor thesis focuses on the eating disorders in context of social work. The aim of this work is to analyze the support of social workers who are in contact with children having an eating disorder. The whole thesis is divided theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part deals with basic definition of eating disorder and its division together with risk factors which can worsen the decease. In the following section there is presented social work and its applications when dealing with problem of eating disorder and the role of a social worker. The child's social functioning can be disrupted by an unexpected situation in a form of eating disorder, hence judging the health status by a social worker must be done to obtain needed results used for choosing appropriate intervention and the treatment. The second last chapter of the theoretical part is devoted to possible treatments. Finally, there is presented a list of institutions dealing with disorders in the Czech Republic. Knowledge of pupils 9. classes selected primary schools about eating disorders

This bachelor's thesis is focused mainly on the knowledge of 9th-grade pupils of selected primary schools about eating disorders (shortly ED). Among other things, it aimed to find out whether pupils had ever heard of ED and, if so, where they had heard about it. A partial goal of this bachelor thesis was also to show whether these pupils know about someone who suffers or has suffered from an eating disorder. If they know of such a person, who this person is? Another partial goal was to clarify whether pupils can identify the symptoms of ED and to whom they would confide their concerns, in case of suspicion of ED within their friends. Furthermore, this work focused on whether the pupils involved are aware of the potential threat to themselves in terms of ED. Last but not least partial goal of the work was to find out the relationship between stigmatization and ED. An anonymous questionnaire survey was used to obtain information The results show that pupils have 58 % knowledge of ED. Everyone has heard of ED at some point, with the media being most involved in the responses. 60 % of pupils know of someone with ED, most often a publicly known person. Adolescent awarness about eating disorders

This bachelor thesis describes and discusses eating disorders. Specifically, it focuses on adolescents as this age is among the key risk factors. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part describes eating disorders and focuses on the two most common diseases: mental anorexia and mental bulimia. It describes the main risk factors, possible health complications and methods of treatment. It also describes the elements of primary prevention targeted at children and youths and the options for their use. The practical part presents results of a quantitative research, which took place among students in elementary and secondary schools. The aim of the thesis is to identify what 12 to16 year old students think about the "cult of thinness" and how important to them is a slim figure. It examines the eating habits and the awareness about the risks of mental anorexia or mental bulimia. Based on the results of this research, a draft of an educational leaflet was created, which might be used in a further awareness raising work among children. Health and psychosocial aspects of mental anorexia patients with remission

The practical part of the bachelor thesis is focused on two goals. The first one is to map if the fight with mental anorexia influences the real life of healed women and if yes find out how. The second goal is to map the opinions of chosen population on use of methods and techniques of social work with support their inclusion to normal life. After reaching goals research questions were set up: How mental anorexia influenced current life of women who had this illness? How can social worker support patients in remitted with inclusion to normal life? The research strategy is quantity research. To get the data, method of semi-structured interview with grown up women who went successfully through anorexia and are currently getting to normal life. The interview was lead "face to face." Another method of getting data was observation. Examined group were five women. Individual interviews with them were finished in winter 2016. Method of data processing was to make biographies, the second one was quality content analysis according to grounded theory. The results are presented with double ways. The first one is answers of women, the second one is their stories. From research results we can say that mental anorexia does not influence life of healed women in the vast majority of cases. From the answers we can say that these women does not want help from social workers, especially for two reasons. Women did not know where to seek for this kind of help and they would not be able to accept help from foreign people. My bachelor thesis could serve as a source of material for social workers and professionals in the field of eating disorder.
Eating Disorders in Sport

This bachelor thesis deals with eating disorders related to sport. The thesis is divided into two parts. The main task of the theoretical part is to describe the individual eating disorders, the causes of the disease and its health complications. In addition, this section discusses specific athletic requirements for nutrition, safe weight loss and treatment of eating disorders. The practical part of this work includes quantitative research in the form of a questionnaire survey conducted among sporting girls and women in different age categories. It deals primarily with nutritional status, weight loss in athletes and the reason why they decided on the diet. Data collection results are evaluated using tables and graphs. The results show that 90 % of female and female girls have sometimes been restricted in eating, which was mostly their decision. A total of 63% did not have enough information about the reductive diet, so they acted on their own discretion.
