The boundaries of democracy as a challenge in civic education
JINDRA, Martin Elíša
The master's thesis objective is a didactic transformation of the political science theme boundaries of democracy in civic education. It contains a theoretical (political sciences) and a practical (didactic) part. The theoretical part of the work analyses the populist approach to governance of certain current politicians who gained a vast amount of political power in their state. Three examples were chosen for this purpose: Andrej Babiš (ANO 2011), Donald J. Trump (Republican Party), and Recep Tayyip Erdo?an (AK PARTi), their characteristics are merged to make a populist politician dangerous for the democratic establishment. In the practical part, these data are didactically transferred to teaching civic education. It analyses textbooks and internet manuals for teachers. The thesis end with teaching of the given topic in an alternative school and transferring that experience into a methodical lecture for teaching the boundaries of democracy.
Didactical transformation in using the scheme and pictures within human biology lessons at lower-secondary level
ČURDOVÁ, Hana
Presented thesis deals with the question of whether pre-service and in-service teachers are capable of didactic transformation. The aim was to assess the extent to which they are able to create a simplified version of complicated professional illustrations, which they would present in the teaching of human biology to pupils in the eighth grade of lower-secondary school. Drawing was used as the main research tool and the research was intentionally performed on the two mentioned groups of respondents in order to monitor the differences between pre-service teachers and those teachers who already have practical experiences with didactic transformation. The thesis also contains an analysis of the most frequently used textbooks in the teaching of human biology at primary school. Drawings of teachers and students were evaluated using predetermined evaluation criteria. It was found that all respondents demonstrated a very good ability of didactic transformation. Both pre - service and in-service teachers had an excellent knowledge of the content, but the in-service teachers had a more developed didactic level of mediating the curriculum to students, which confirms the fact that they chose only the most fundamental concepts and the drawings were rather schematic. Unlike pre-servise teachers, in-servise teachers drew a scheme step by step. They mastered it during the ongoing interpretation and they tried to explain the overall issues of the topic on real-life examples.
Work with Čapek's Noetic trilogy on the high school
Skorkovská, Markéta ; Hník, Ondřej (advisor) ; Peterka, Josef (referee)
Graduation thesis conserns possibilites of working with Karel Čapek's work in teaching literature at high school. Its essence is veryfiing proposed activities in praxis and reflexion of results achieved. Source publications for proposed activities are Hordubal, Povětroň, Obyčejný život. Common goal of those activities is to get pupils in direct contact with literature and its interpretation by attractive and understandable way. Conclusions of the thesis are derivated from results of activities, observation and pupils reflections. I give reason for proposed activities by partial goals that I want to forfill with them. In reflections I evaluate the process, reaching goals.

This thesis is about the pedagogical transformation of modern scientific knowledge from the field of palaeoanthropology and evolution anthropology to the teaching about human at the first and high schools in the Czech Republic. The main objective of this thesis (realised through four constituent research studies) is to analyse and to describe this complex and multilevel process. The first step was the content analyse of 32 textbooks. We also analysed the framework of the whole process. We realise questionnaire survey among 217 teachers and also interview with 10 teachers. The last research study about student's attitude and knowledge was questionnaire survey among 660 students. We found that there are no serious obstacles in the teaching of (human) evolution from the field of believers in the Czech Republic like in some other countries. It takes usually few decades to get new findings and conceptions into the textbooks, despite it some exceptions exist. Teachers seem to be the key participants of the process of pedagogical transformation. It is not only about the information they teach in their lessons but also about the way how they teach and about the attitude the build-up towards the topic among their students.

Title: Computer Science Education at Grammar Schools Author: Daniel Lessner Department: Department of Software and Computer Science Education Supervisor: RNDr. Tomáš Holan, Ph.D., Department of Software and Computer Science Education Abstract: Computer science is not a required component of general education in Czechia. The lack of published local experience impedes the search for general agreement in basic questions, such as: Is computer science in general education possible? Is it beneficial? What educational goals should it have, what topics should it cover? The goal of this thesis is to offer empirically verified answers to these questions, considering grammar school level (students 15-18 years old) in Czechia. A set of fundamental ideas of computer science has been identified and used to develop an introductory course. The course was repeatedly tested, evaluated and improved, following the design-based research methodology. The level of students' achieve- ments as well as their own view of the novel approach to teach "informatics" was tracked. Contrary to the widely held belief (in Czechia), it turned out that computer science in general secondary education is possible and beneficial for the students, as long as the level of difficulty and specific goals are chosen appro- priately. The course is...
